Story of a Newbie Northern Lass

:new: Hello to you all, It's pouring down with rain here(well this is Manchester UK!!) so thought It would be a good time to get online and introduce myself...I am a 44 year old single mum of a 10 year old boy and a baby girl of 6 months. Now I think about it, I always found alcohol as a boost to my lack of confidence (my mum said I was "more interesting when I was drunk").More worryingly my son also said this recently,("more fun"), but probably because I let him stay up later and let him play more computer games/eat more junk then! I am a bottle of wine most nights kinda girl (or more when stressed or socialising), so don't even feel drunk after one bottle, just feel tired and guilty the next morning). I have decided to follow the MYO program starting from tomorrow -yes, another new monday beginning- because it seems like it actually works if you put the effort in . Also it's the ideal time for me to act as now I have a strong network of friends who don't drink much. When I moved to London in my early 20s I worked in fashion and music circles where alcohol and drugs were in every day use. When I got married and moved back up North I had intended to start afresh, but found the 'yuppie types' we mixed with were even worse re. overindulging! After divorce, bancruptcy and homelesness I am now settled in a lovely council semi with my children and enjoy gardening and listening to the Archers more than I do partying, but still have the drinking bug.Any tips on how to keep to the program would be appreciated- I've read the book and bought most of the supps... Love to hear from you! Miss CDJ XXX :thanks:

Hi Miss CDJ and a warm welcome.

You sound much similar to myself. Am 42 yr. old mother of 1 teenager living in Glasgow.
Came to this site for a wee while before I found the guts to give it a whirl. Like yourself, I was a nightly btl./wine drinker. Have reduced to a wkly. btl. these past 3 wks.

Glad you`re here. This programme really can work if you commit to it wholeheartedly.

      Good luck,

Story of a Newbie Northern Lass

Hi CDJ and as Betty and Starlight have already said :welcome: I'm in UK as well, althought sun seems to have come out here now, so hope it's better in "Madchester" now! I too can guzzle a bottle of wine with no apparent effects, I need the second bottle to get a result!! No more, however, I started on the Kudzu just yesterday and I have now had my first sober weekend for a long, long time - so I am feeling optimistic. One thing I did find that didn't help me as a binge drinker was that telling myself on Monday morning, "that's it, I have quit drinking" didn't quite work, because my willpower held out fine until Friday evening and then it all went to hell in a handcart! So this time I had my last glass of wine on Weds evening and I haven't had anything since - I think I've broken the pattern of the weekend binge and to my surprise it wasn't that difficult - but we can't get smug or complacent with this, I know only too well.

Anyway, sorry for waffling, again welcome and we all look forward to hearing more from you.

                  Hi Miss CDJ, welcome,
I too am originally from the north, but moved south some years ago.
I was a binge drinker, mainly weekends but it gradually began to
increase to almost daily, I tried moderating but that did'nt work for
me, because I found once I started to drink I could'nt stop. I found
this site a few months ago, got the book and supps and have not had
a drink for 4 months, it's the only thing that has worked for me.
I hope it works for you also.
                  Best wishes Paula.

Lived in Manchester for 13 years, even married a Madchester lad (divorced now) but met some fab folks and some steadfast friends who are now that I have moved back home still very much in my life. Am sure that you will find all that you need here. I lived in North Manchester, Blackley Village laterally.

Thanks to you all so much for your supportive messages on my first day of abstainance!! Does anyone find that excercise helps? Have just rejoined a gym which has a creche and am justfying the expense by adding up all the money I usually spend on wine, about ?35 a week, that's ?140 a Month- scary, and ?100 more than monthly gym membership! As Bibby can vouch for, it just keeps on raining here in manchester- i'm not religious but did you hear about the priest who said thge rain and floods were a punishment from god for the wicked ways of us humans?! Maybe someone out there is building an ark...miss cdj x
