A woman that lives on a remote island with some of her crazy family members. Her two year old son disappeared two years ago and she is trying to piece together what really happened....or figure out if she even had a baby??..... it's good!

In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts

I just started this book, but I bought because I came across the author while looking for things about addiction on you tube. I love the title !

The author is a Dr called Garbo Mate. He is an addiction specialist, working with drug addicts in Canada. I watched some of his talks on you tube and was enthralled. He is such a compassionate man. If you have 5mins I highly recommend giving his talks a view. I will post a link when my brain is less addled. I'm 1 day AF today.

No worries Budda! I wrote down the name of your book so I could look it up. I am also going to look up those YouTube videos you mentioned. Thanks

My only complaint about this book is that there's a developing love story...OH PLEASE...like things turn out that way in real life?! They could skip that BS as far as I'm concerned. Then again, I may just be a tad bitter. LOL

i agree, sometimes i feel all authors feel like they need a love story to sell the book...

sounds like an interesting read. i hope i find it in the grocery store near by,...

Gabor Mate is the name of the physician who directs a "harm reduction" clinic for addicts in Vancouver BC . He really does understand more than most about addiction, trauma, attachment disorder . . . his book about addiction is: "In the Land of Hungry Ghosts."

However, I had the opportunity to attend a day-long "workshop" by Dr. Mate. At the end, with a copy of his book that I bought in hand, to get his signature, I asked him if he had ever heard of baclofen for addiction.

I mean, it saved my life, and I'm pretty sure it's applicable for more than just alcoholism; and this man's life is about saving lives. He said, "Uh, umm, yeah, I've read or heard something about it. I don't really know anything." All I could do was tell him that baclofen saved my life. "Great workshop."

All that said, though, (sorry K-9, still hi-jacking your thread), his understanding about addiction is quite accurate and quite profound. He says, "There is no war on drugs. There is a war on people." I admire his work, greatly, and just keep working on how difficult it is for anyone to change their own paradigm - about anything!!!

This is an oldish thread, but I think I will purchase this! Love a thriller! Thanks for the recommendation, K9.
