My friend Doris is about my age (late 40's) with two high schoolers. She went in for "reutene" sinus surgery. I called her the night before (I have had this surgery twice) to wish her luck. She said "oh this is nothing, I also have had it twice, this is my third time and a new procedure that makes it really easy".
Well, she came home and didn't seem right..one thing led to another. She was confused, forgetful, belligerent. She went back into the hospital, and then transferred to another. She has been in neuro ICU for about 3 weeks. They found a blood clot, and pressure in her brain, but not an enyurism. That was good. They hope for a full recovery, but not sure. She is not improving. She is still confused, angry, has weakness. The plan was to get her off the unit, and then into a rehab facility.
Last night she had a pulminary embolism (clot in lung). Her lung filled with fluid and had to be drained. Before this, they were talking weeks, if not months of recover, assuming she will recover.
This is a vital, otherwise healthy, energetic working woman and great mother. I just feel sick. How can this happen?
