    Army thread 25th November 2008

    I've discovered that pubs are...

    REALLY BORING.

Are your friends aware of where you are at and how important it is for you to be sober? I find sleep really, really important to my equilibrium and sanity - I hope your anxiety passes so you can look forward positively to your trip (next week!!)

90 days...Shit - that is FABULOUS!!! Bottom line is, only you can put that drink down your throat. We have choices. I find by fast-forwarding to how I KNOW I am going to feel after a bender helps. Perhaps you could tell your friends you want to make your personal vacation alcohol free?? Tis a toughie ay

And Oner's...NO WINE FOR YOU!.. You know where this WILL lead!...Change your focus. Christmas coming up etc... You are too proud and have worked too hard to waste this glorious life you are now having... AND, you are a great and important positive example here, and at home, to a lot of ppl. G.

ahh, Oney, I have been worried about you doing this trip with drinking buddies.... you KNOW they will urge you to drink, and being on vacation always brings out the feeling that we can do things we otherwise would not do. If you want to get through this AF you're going to need a very solid, very specific plan about how to handle triggers and temptations, and I think there's no away around telling your friends in a very no-nonsense way that you will not and do not want to drink... and ask them for their help....

Got to say, again, Oney, these thoughts are inevitable, and nothing to be ashamed of, and it is very dangerous to pretend you are not having them, or to hide them and try to struggle with them on your own. You know that, don't you?

I'm glad you told them and their reaction doesn't surprise me... so you have a challenge or two, ahead of you... mostly, within your own mind. How badly do you want an AF life?

Oner's... Great you're sharing that here and now.. Also, do you think after 90 days af, you are getting complacent?...you know, forgetting why you stopped...Lot's of love to you and everyone, off to work now for me...Take care all...You'll make the right choice Oner's....G.

Hey O2M, Im a bit similar - people say to me "but you are such fun when you are drinking - you don't do anything wrong" etc etc etc - it is how I feel in my head afterwards that gives me the condition that leads me to this site I KNOW how alcohol effects me. Peer pressure ?!? Give me a break! I totally agree with Guit, you have come too far to self sabotage. Hold your head high, girl, and stay away from that first drink!

Oney, to NOT talk about your thoughts is a guarantee that you will soon be drinking. Even if the Army were still an AF thread, that would be the entire fecking POINT!! It's not just to come on here and say, Oh what a good girl am I, I don't drink and I'm never tempted! If we are truly addicted, truly dependent, then we WILL THINK ABOUT DRINKING!! It's only the people with no problem who never think about it!

If you don't want to talk about it on this thread... or even if you do... why not use the AF Daily Thread? Everyone and anyone there knows what this struggle is all about. Talk to Gabby, talk to Sausage, talk to anybody who has decided it's OK to start drinking again... I've certainly done it a time or three or five, and very much to my sorrow and regret.

One2, I don't post on this thread very often, but WIP and others are right -- we need to talk about these feelings, or they will get the best of us. Burying ourselves in the sand is what got us here inthe 1st place. You really know yourself; just because your friends "don't see" certain behaviors, you know what is there -- and you are making the choice to not continue. I'm proud of you!

All good lovie - speak about it as much as you need to - however, obsessing about it could spoil your day(s) in the "here and now" before you even get on the plane...stay positive...did you have a drink today??? If the answer is no, then you are winning. Bless you O2M

                                Morning Mr G and Kapo.
                                Hi there Wip and Vlad.
Oney...only you know what to do. We can all give good advice, but deep down only you can answer the questions your asking. Its a big decision, and i can imagine how hard it must be, but were all here with a shoulder to lean on if needed.
Kapo...Really, you should watch This is england. Nill by mouth was also excellent. If your going to deal with these terrible subjects you either get it right and go for it 100% as to how it was, or you give your idea to hollywood to water it down! Have you seen when we were warriors? Thats another very moving film.
