well, as im sure you know, pancake tuesday is the last day before the beginning of lent. When we were kids growing up with a very catholic mother, pancake tuesday was a very big deal. I think my mum was the only local mum who actually cooked her own cos alll the kids would come around for some of her pancakes ,it was lovely and so were the pancakes!
There was never anything sweet brought in for the rest of lent except for Paddys day for my bros birthday , whos called....yes, youve guessed it..Paddy!!

you made me laugh. Well my dad was devout Catholic and had me in the font for baptism until he succumbed to the evil drink and boy was he a bad alcoholic. He was a Delaney and that is Irish, is it not? But they went to Scotland at the start of the Potato Famine. So history is steeped in whisky!!!! lol.... I did not know that, my mum was locked away so was brought up with no traditions, but am interested to learn so thank you so much. I just had pancakes and my adoptive mother could not cook them. Now I just buy shop bought cos you guessed it - I am not good at pancakes either. I think it boils down to the frying pan and you really need an expensive one, cos mine just stick and resemble scrambled eggs!!! The kids just look at me with a pitiful look on their face as I squirt lemon juice and maple syrup (do bear in mind it is ?5.00 a bottle) I shall remain in shock forever. So shop bought do in this house... Shall have to invest. You made me laugh Limers....:thanks: I also think that is a lovely story about your mum. Good pan - good pancakes!!!! ABSOLUTELY I DID NOT KNOW, SO YOU ENLIGHTEN ME, BUT WHY DO THEY DO IT?? IS IT COS OF NO FOOD AND THEY ARE FILLING, HONESTLY, I AM BEING STRAIGHT UP WHAT IS THE TRADITION. WHY DO WE DO IT? I AM THICK TO TRADITION. AND I AM BEING GENUINE....

Butter and Vermont Maple Syrup! Yummy! On special occassions I make stuffed Pancakes, with anything - ususally pumpkin butter or apple butter, then maple syrup, chopped pecans and a light dusting of powdered sugar over all. (Ebilskiver Pan) You have to fold stiff egg whites into the batter. Check it out on Williams Sonoma. You can also stuff with any pie filling.

Ymmmy pancakes. I like lots of maple syrup and butter.

Gyco, I had surgery for 4 slipped disc a year ago. Doc went through the neck. It wasn't too bad. The scare is in one of my neck wrinkles so it doesn't show to much! lol.

I like to put corn in my pancake batter. I've never heard of anyone else who does that. But I've never heard of prunes either! LOL! Add butter and maple syrup. Yummy.

Okay, for those across the pond, can you post a recipe?

The pancakes we make would not be good with lemon so I am a bit confused.

                              Love,

Maddiva, Pankake, or Shrove Tuesday is a day to use up all sweet things in the larder prior to Lent, forty days to represent the forty days Christ spent in the desert being tempted by the devil. Now, can you guess I am a Baptist Ministers daughter or what!!!
I like lemon and sugar too by the way.. no ?5.00 bottle of maple syrup!
And Sweaty Betty, I say you can!
