    Prayers

There are many times I wake up and feel sorry for myself, or things happen in my daily life, and I feel sorry for myself, or I take my medication which makes me act unusual and I feel sorry for myself, even though I don't drink, or smoke, anymore. I thought it was awful that someone who had as much pain as I do on a daily basis had to be 'normal', and try to be helpful, even though I DO love the people I come in contact with, when so many slip away, and I never know what happens to them. My son-in-law is recently retired from the Charlie company of the national guard. I can't tell you stuff like rank, etc. I heard a lot, went through a lot with my daughter. Today, I called to talk to my grandchildren, and he answered, and he's preparing to go and escort the body of one of his best, oldest friends home from Afghanistan. Everything I've been through pales in comparison, though I KNOW everything is relative. This guy, this young man, this husband, was the father of 3 very young children. He CHOSE to stay in the service of his country. I WILL NOT discuss politics, or the reasons for the war, with ANYONE. That point is moot. A woman is a widow, 3 children are without their father, to make this country, this WORLD, just safer, today. I will not complain, and when I think of how bad things are next time, I'll remember this day. I'll think of his wife, and his children, and I'll find a way to honor him, without drinking away the memory.

Well said Rubes. We just don't stop and think sometimes and when things like this happen it really "hits home" just what it means to be an AMERICAN and to SERVE your country. We all owe such a HUGE debt to our "armed forces". My prayers are with his family and may he be remembered with honor and dignity that he deserves !!!

Every year, on Memorial Day, my Daddy would go and stand, silently, while the speeches were made, the names were read, the parks, memorials were opened. He was away at war when I was born. He told me about flying in planes he could see out thru the bottoms, he suffered frostbite on both feet. He never bragged about his exploits, but he took such pride in his service, his country, his flag. We should remember these things EVERY day.

I was raised in an Army family, by a father who retired after 30 years service.
He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery with his medals of honor.
I relate to your beautiful words of dignity and honor, Ruby.

Thank you, all of you. I'm going to pass all of this along to my SIL Sunday, and hopefully he can print it or something and share it with the Soldier's family, to let them know he is appreciated around the world.
