Can a bad liver cause foot and leg numbness?

I have been a heavy drinker, and now taking Kudzu.
But I have a numb left leg that seems to be gradually getting worse.
Could this be from liver damage?
    :thanks:

best checked by a doctor, i'd say...could be nerve damage...could be anything really.

      ilovejafa,

I had sciatica in May this year, once the pain had gone I experienced numbness in my foot and less so in my leg, even now some days when I have done something more than usual I can feel the numbness return.

So the numbness could be from your back, nerve related as peacenik says. You can get referred pain (and numbness) from your back without actually experiencing any pain in your back.

It's also possible that drinking masked the numbness before.

Either way, seeing a doctor seems to be the way forward.

As far as I can see, liver's can be greatly helped by diet and exercise, something I am now going to focus on now that I have a 18 AF days behind me. Can't hurt to nurture your liver.

Hope your mind can be put at rest.
I love you, I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you.

I've had the same thing. The doctor diagnosed it as a pinched nerve. Drinking plays a role in this though, although not the liver because whenever I go without drinking for a period of time, it goes away.
I've been walking, a long and crooked path. Come my restoration, wash my body clean...

Simple answer, NO your drinking and liver has nothing to do with your numb leg...

I have a good mate who is a Specialist Trauma Doctor and I just spoke to him and asked him....

You most likely have a pinched nerve, which will fix itself within the next month...

          So Relax :-)

              Hi

I seem to remember reading about alcoholism and peripheral neuropathy, symptoms include numbness.

You could do a search for that or ask a member named doggygirl. I can't remember exactly but I think she might have written about it.

              Good luck.

Peripheral neuropathy from alcoholism can cause numbness in the extremities. It is best to get it checked by a doctor.

Peripheral neuropathy is a disorder of the nervous system. Symptoms include weakness, tingling, muscle pains, numbness and a sensation often described as burning feet. While the cause is not clear, it is probably linked to a shortage of B vitamins. Slow recovery is possible with abstinence, vitamin supplements and a good general diet.

I wonder why it is the left side only? My understanding of peripheral neuropathy is it is evenly distributed on both sides of the body. That being said, I am having problems with the left side of my body going numb as well.....what is up with that????? We definitely need to keep in touch!

Thanks, I hope so. But, I have had this gradual numbness for over 5 years now, getting worse by the month, creeping up the leg.

No alcohol and eating well (plus spirulina tablets) may start my road to recovery, slowly.
