    Supermarket Symphony

Been offline for a couple of days due to pc repair.

Just had to share this with you. Was in supermarket early Christmas Eve afternoon.........lost in thought as I waited at the checkout. Was suddenly struck by `music` and chuckled to myself. Please.........someone.........anyone.........is the supermarket symphony only audible to recovering/recovered alcoholics???? :H All around me I could hear the chink and clatter of..............bottles of booze as people stocked up on it like it was going out of fashion. Seriously, I noticed this and notably, I `heard` it going on all around me before I took notice of what anyone was buying booze wise........it really was like a supermarket symphony :H

Anyway, then my thoughts shifted a little and I began to wonder...........I wondered just how many of the respectable looking people I saw buying booze were buying it merely to celebrate as opposed to how many were closet alcoholics?????

So glad I am no longer at all inclined to buy that stuff. Amazing to be able to say that really, since my shopping bags used to invariably clatter as I transported my beloved wine home. Gone are the days...........no regrets. I thank my lucky `Stars`. I created Star when I joined MWO.........creating Star saved me from myself.

    Lol Star!
I so know what you mean. These things become glaringly obvious
and can often seem a little rediculous when we are sober! I'm glad for
you that the pressure to buy wine has gone. I know that peace that comes
along with being free from the booze. Long may it live.

Do you also notice how they pile it literally to the ceiling, right in front of the entrance door? Makes anyone who is struggling, well struggle just that much more.

Thanks for the observation Star, I for one will be so glad when the friggin Holidays and all the pressure they place on everyone will be over.

Probably one of the most beautiful supermarket symphonies you will hear is the one you hear when you shop online...............SILENCE!.

Hope you had a lovely Xmas Star.

When my girl was in rehab, her best friend in there was a pill popper.

She told my daughter once, "I just don't see how you are going to be able to make it. If my pills were available in every store, every gas station, on every street, I would have a rough go of it."

It is funny you wrote about this, Star, because I had the same thing happen to me the other day. I was determined to get through Christmas and NYE sober and am successful thus far, but standing in the check out lines with all the happy, smiling people purchasing their crates of wine and beer sure did give me a pang. The old "why can't I drink like everyone else?" But, I do know I can't. It is not possible.

I saw a bloke coming out of a supermarket on Christmas Eve carrying two bottles of wine. And I thought "Just two bottles? But that won't last five minutes!".

And that's why I can't go near the stuff :H
