EVER NOTICE YOUR DRUNK FRIENDS FACES WHEN YOU ARE SOBER

The other day when I was being a short-lived hero and not drinking at a party, towards the end of the evening I looked around at my very attractive best friend who was drinking vodka and her eyes were bloodshot, her mascara was smeared and she looked out of it. She drinks no more than I usually do. then when we got home I looked at hubby as he was getting ready for bed. Stupid, smelly and drunk. Couldn't do much even though he was in the mood. What an eye opener. That's what I look like and act like most weekends. Yikes. Preeetty U G L Y... wake up Tip. Stop tippling !!!

EVER NOTICE YOUR DRUNK FRIENDS FACES WHEN YOU ARE SOBER

haha. yeahl. absolutely. have had the same realisation on plenty of occasions. Early evening all is good everyone seems to be having fun but after a couple of drinks. Unbelievable how stupid ppl start acting, stupid they start looking. Makes you realise how thankful you are at that point of time to be AF. When your friends start slurring teh words, etc.

The journey is the goal. As long as you're fighting the good fight and you're not giving up on giving up, you're winning. It's not about how often you get knocked down, it's about how often you get up again. Sobriety the goal for sure. But striving to get to that goal is what it's about. Not getting there. Because the journey never ends. The journey is the goal.

So funny and so true! I was at a wedding on the weekend and I swear I was the only sober one there. People slobbering in my ear - I just wanted to get out of there! Oh gawd, that used to be me!
Every day is a day to start over and remember that I am powerless over my addiction. I will no longer give the BEAST any power over me - he can go straight to hell.

Yea Tipple I so know what you mean! And the booze breath the next day is pretty revolting too :H The sad part was when I was drinking with the bearly eyes, smudged makeup and dehydrated skin, i'd look in the mirror and actually think I looked ok... then you'd see someone's facebook photos the next day and want to die! And thats not even mentioning the mindless crap that spouted out our mouths......

Gawd, I think I am hilarious when I am drunk too. I laugh at all my own jokes. Saturday around the bonfire when I wasn't drinking the 'gang' kept saying "Come on tell us some more jokes like last night." I felt like I was letting everyone down. Geez,it puts one in a tough position especially when you are a known entertainer while partying. Catch 22.

Im a waitress and I work alot of events and weddings. The last wedding I worked it was like a contest who could down the most booze. At the end of the night, everyone looked like a total mess, losing shoes and purses, falling down. When your sober and you see it, just does not look like its much fun anymore.

I was at a wedding this weekend too and had exactly the same experience. It was in the middle of the countryside in Poland and potentially was going to go on untill 4am. I made sure I had an exit strategy in the form of a non-English speaking local cab driver. I was glad to wake up early the following day to enjot the sights of Krakow. As the night went on I found it was easier not to drink as I could see what it was doing to those around me.

Johnny I find the same, after friends start to get drunk I look at them and think "I so dont want to be like you any more!" They also completely forget your sober so the pressure is off too. Its a good reminder once in a while but I certainly dont want to spend too much time with them especially when they start repeating the same story over and over.....

                  I can always tell

when I see a picture of one of my sons if they had been drinking. They just have that "look" in their eyes......
One night my son was at our house and was very drunk (he spent the night) and he acted so stupid! I thought to myself because we are very very alike~ in looks and actions~ do I act like this when I'm drunk?
I must.......because we do everything else alike.

It's the drunk trying to act sober that gets me. My mum tries and acts sober after she's downed a bottle of red and it's embarrassing......crossed eyes and not understanding what people are talking about or constantly repeating the same boring old point just isn't a good look!

EVER NOTICE YOUR DRUNK FRIENDS FACES WHEN YOU ARE SOBER

Tipple, I MORE than seen it. Hubs still drinks, on vacation and off days, which are few. But I'm on constant guard, and he knows it. I lost a beloved uncle last week, a heavy drinker. Only my brother and wife were able to fly there (free!) for the memorial, and the only pics they posted were at a bar, with the drinks lined up in front of them. This is my family who has been SO judgemental, until he was arrested for DUI.
Hubs took one look at the pics and said, 'Nice way to remember your (sic) loved one.'
He was right. I was at a Memorial Luncheon with his gigantic bros and one lovely sister, and there was no AL. We had poems, and my Aunt's tear broken prayer. My deportment is far less than stellar, but I have SO much respect for those I've lost, and being in a public place, like you've said, and seeing how UGLY AL makes us, renews my quest in my journey.
I hope, I pray, you all find your way. There's a poem I won't quote, which says if only God would give us the sight to see us as others do! Only as far as AL is concerned, tho! (Lawdy, don't want to know what others think of my fat thighs, and wrinkly face!! :H)

Let's face it. Being drunk is unattractive, no matter how we look to ourselves at the moment. And the hilarious jokes probably wouldn't be funny either if the listeners were not all drunk. It is so frustrating to carry on a conversation with someone who has been drinking a lot. They can't track what you are saying, lose their own train of thought and forget everything you said the next day. And your looks suffer for days, with dehydrated skin, lackluster hair and bruises you can't remember. Just my own experience, but....

I can't tell you how many times my family has said to me "we talked about that last week mom!" or "you already told us that the other night- twice"
I laugh and say I must be getting old or have altzheimers or something.......but I know better.
