    Thank you everyone

For being here today. I've been having really bad drinking urges again, and have spent the whole day logging in and out wherever possible. Without MYO I may have drunk, but reading all your posts has helped me through another day AF.

I'm glad UK, my trying times are Friday and Sat. nites, hubby is at work and it's a long nite w/no witnesses. MWO has been great! And as Oney says WE are the one who choose to come here rather than give in!

UK, thank you for your honesty and kudos for always being willing to do whatever it takes to stay sober. All we ever have is today. I'm glad you didn't drink.

Someone very special to me often says this:

          Hi UK!
Hang in there...I know how you feel though. I've kind of been going through the same thing myself the last few weeks. We CAN get through this though. Let's be tough and stick it out. Please keep us posted on how you're doing!!

                Hi UK,

I love poetry and have been looking for ones about drinking to add to a resource and inspiration folder I keep on my desktop. Not a whole lot out there that aren't "romance of booze" themed, but I did find a few. Since you have Sylvia Plath as your avatar I thought posting one (edited) might help.

I'm glad you got through the day.

driving into shit with more molecular density
than myself, nor the Mission Impossible
reruns I sat before, nor the dead
space inside only alcohol could fill and then
                not even. But I miss

How little I asked of myself then?-to suck
the next breath, suffer the next heave, live
till cocktail hour when I could mix
                the next sickness.

I locked the bathroom door, sat
                on the closed commode, shirtless,
in filmy underpants telling myself that death
could fit my grasp and be staved off
while in the smeary shaving glass,
I practiced the stillness of a soul
                awaiting birth.

For the real that swarmed beyond the door
I was pure scorn, dead center of my stone and starless
universe, orbited by no one. Novitiate obliterate, Saint
                Absence, Duchess of Naught . . .
A stinging ether folded me in mist.

When my plane tilts down, houses grow large, streets
lose their clear geometry. The leafy earth soon fills my portal,
and in the gray graveyard of cars, a stick figure
becomes my son in royal blue cap flapping his arms
as if to rise. Thank god for our place
in this forest of forms, for the gravitas
that draws me back to him, and for how lightly
                lightly I touch down.

                            UK,

Thank you for that post!! It is a great reminder to all of us that there will always be times when we have to fight our "stinkin' thinkin'." This addiction does not go away. It lurks and waits. We do have only one choice if we wish to live well and happily, and that is to not take that drink we "think" we "need."

I am very glad you are here.
