    Army Thread 2nd September

Ha - my 14 year old said to me last night as we were coming out of Publix (translation: grocery store chain in Florida) "The weather feels like Halloween tonight."

What??? Halloween? Right, because the temperature has plummetted to 80 degrees.

So - the weather is definitely a consideration!

:upset::upset::upset: I can't get either Bisto Gravy Granules or Powder here and just the other day we were watching Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and they showed Yorkshire Pudding with REAL gravy and Mr. Stirly said he thought he'd like to try them. The Y-puddings I can make but what about the real gravy. I checked out Ramsay's recipe for gravy and he uses 1/2 bottle of red wine..... Anybody got an easy and tasty recipe for gravy that uses veggies and pan drippings but not the wine??

The only thing is.... the winters. I may do a test run up there this winter. Just to see how it feels. It's been a long time since I went through a real winter... since I was 22 in fact.
Um, twenty something below zero for a month....just saying. Rain for a month in the spring.....just saying. Cold nights with frost the middle of October. Black flies that bite chunks out of your neck in early summer....just saying. And that's in Southern Ontario, not even Northern Ontario....

                  good evening lovelies..
                  food chat..yummy
I like your idea for the gravy stock Zenners..
what I normally do is when I've cooked the joint I strain the juices off, and wait for them to cool and seperate and put it in the frige, then take the dripping off to use for the spuds or yorkies and the meat juice I use for the gravy with flour and seasoning

Well this one comes in a very nice gold tube.
We found this little shoptoday that sells loads of cheap makeup/toiletries etc. Some of them named brands.
I keep mentally adding stuff to the Christmas list. Buy toiletries and underwear dead cheap. Can't be returned or exchanged

Thanks for that Zen. I don't usually make roast beef, usually do pork. I will definitely try that, it sounds wonderful.

Hiya Jan - how is that hernia in your leg. Still giving you problems? I was thinking about it but don't remember reading what the doc told you. Maybe you posted when my internet was down and that's why I didn't see it...

I have two herniated lumbar discs. Made me go lame in my left leg for a bit. Wasn't that painful but very annoying. It mostly went away after I started to bend and lift things properly and wear only running shoes with good shock absorbing soles and swimming three times a week. Still hurts once in a while but not so bad. Be careful about how you hold yourself when you do housework, etc. and it should slowly improve or at least not get worse. Glad to hear the pain went away.
Be firm with Ollie. He's a smart little guy. Tell him when you're on the phone you need to hear the client and he can't interrupt you or make any loud noise. Make him understand that the people on the phone are the ones who help you pay for all the expenses and he must behave when you're talking. He will get the picture if you're firm with him. Or give him something that when the phone rings and it's a client, he has to keep himself occupied with that and not bother you. Be firm Jan. It's your income and how you put the bread on the table we're talking about. He'll understand if you explain to him why he absolutely must do what you tell him to when you're dealing with clients. Tell him there'll be no money for treats whatsoever if he acts up when he should be quiet. And if he still acts up then don't buy him a treat and remind him why he's being denied. Don't be afraid to get your point across. I know it's hard to be strict with him after all you've been through but you can't risk your income...:l:l
Right, I'm off to bed. Am tired and have a big day tomorrow.
Wishing you all a lovely evening/afternoon....:h
