It is just a second meter fitted along side the one you have now and in the evening around 9-10pm it kicks in at a cheaper rate till morning when the daytime one comes back on instead. You do nothing and end up with two separate readings, but one cheaper bill. I have had them for years and DW uses the appliances I mentioned on timers in the evening. Makes perfect sense.Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

Hello again, all.
Meetings done for the day. Yay me
I don't know what I'm going to do with our electricity bill... Well, we don't actually even get a bill. We're on a prepaid meter. Say you buy electricity for R1000.00. R150 is the transaction fee. 14% is VAT. Only for the remainder do you get actual kwH units, the price of which went up by 32% in July, and will increase by a further 30% per year for the next two years... :upset:I'll do whatever it takes

We switched our landline to prepaid - only my MIL and my own mother ever phone us on it. For the rest, we all use cellphones. We got the cubs those contracts where they can only use a set amount of airtime per month, thereafter they have to use their pocket money to top up. They each get about 10 Euro worth of texts and airtime. My own bill is only around 20 Euro a month. I'll rather not emntion Mrs. Ts - let's just say she is a "loose woman" when it comes to yakking away...one2many;968266 wrote: I am lucky in that I HATE talking on the phone so my phone bills are relatively low...

We don't pay a line rental on the landline, other than a R120 (12 Euro approx) annual fee.KTAB;968278 wrote: Firstly Tips if you are paying for broadband get skype in and cut out the land line costs. Those lecy increases are scary. Have you the space to put up a wind turbine? I am quite serious.
Recipe to follow.
My broadband is capped, but we do use Skype to call Mrs. T family in Dublin and so on.
I'm afraid the neighbourhood will be up in arms if we put up things like wind turbines. We've done things like changing incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient ones. The warm water geyser has a blanket fitted and so on. But those increases are hectic, yes. I'd like to swop my electric stove for one that uses gas, but that will have to wait until we redo the kitchen. The current one is one of that built-in jobbies.
The killer in winter is the tumble dryer, because we have wet winters. In summer, the fecking swimming pool pump chows away electricity. I've alreaday told the cubs I'm not going to heat the pool to the same extent as previous years (I have solar heating for it) - simply because the pump needs to run for it to work. I'm sticking to a basic 4 - 6 hours per day to ensure that it remains clear.I'll do whatever it takes
