My cousin's middle boy asked her the other day why she didn't have her name on her number plate like all the other Mummy's at school. She went ballistic. Fair enough her husband a surgeon and very well paid, but they've got 3 kids at private school, a mortgage the size of a small country's national debt and he refuses to do private work.

Oooooooooooh I get where you're coming from there, Tips.tiptronic_ct;1223003 wrote: I'm feeling a bit blah about it, actually. The cubs have asked why my brother and his family are going on their 4th holiday of the year and how come we can't go etc. etc. etc. The eldest is fine with it, but the youngest finds it tough. There are also a lot of rich kids in their schools, with kids going on ski holidays and the like.

None of my kids have ever been on a plane or had a real holiday, they do get to go to Wexford with us for a week in the summer. I feel really bad about it because Adam is 12 and complains that all his friends have been out of the country on a plane. We just can't afford it."It's not your job to like me, it's mine!"

That's the thing, JC. Mrs. T and I both have good jobs and we live comfortably enough. But bleeding hell! There are limits.Firefox;1223007 wrote: Evening everyone just chillin and watchin tv. Been a quiet day i was in most of it. So bitterly cold out there.:television:

If they don't get the expensive stuff... and EXACTLY the right designer clothes... its not good enough. Very commercialized.
I reckon the cubs are old enough to be told about economic situations... and that you;re planning a great family holiday at home... xxx

Speaking of people sounding Irish: my brother-in-law and his family have been in Dublin for a number of years. You should hear their eldest when he speaks English: like a fecking native Irishman. Luckily he doesn't speak Afrikaans with an accent

You should have seen the youngest's face when I gave them each a chocolate and a packet of sliced biltong when they last went to the movies. I told them to only buy soft drinks, because the movie prices are a rip-off. She had a choice: go without snacks, or take the ones I provided. She was worried that people would notice. :HZenstyle;1223023 wrote: Well... you are doing them a favour teaching them to value money Tipps. It doesn't grow on trees. (Gawd, sounding like one of the aulds now...)
And, to be honest, the state of the economy now... there are more people that can't afford holidays BY FAR. Can't remember my last one.
Don't let it get to you... if they complain double up on the "keep the shower short and turn off the lights" comments!!!
