    Weight Loss Support Thread!!!

Hi Rooni. My cheat day is either saturday or sunday and I do allow myself sweets but I dont go crazy with it. Today for instance, I was craving chocolate so I went to the store and bought one of those single service slices of black forest cake you can buy in the bakery. The pieces are usually cut for way more than what an actual serving size should be so I split it with a friend of mine and it was the perfect amount to quench my sweet tooth. The key is moderation and not going overboard. Tonight PIZZA!!! (in moderation of course) lol
:wings:Every day is another day to set things right!! Make today a new beginning, the first day of the rest of your life!:wings:

Goals: to stay AF and to start to incorporate some sort of exercise into my daily routine!!!:wings:

Probably won't post anymore as feel kind of invisible but thanking all who've helped along the way. MWO really helped kick start my sobriety and for that I'm truly grateful. Wishing you all well on your sober journeys. No doubt I will lurk from time to time. God bless
FreeFly you are definitely not invisible and I really wish that you wouldn't leave. There is strength in numbers and a lot to glean off of people who have been through what you're going through.

When I was first starting out I mainly posted in the Newbie area because I thought that was what I was supposed to do. I certainly don't mean this as a put down to that area, but there is a lot to be learned from those with more experience. You might get more personal interaction from posting more in the General or Abstinence sections. Newer people IMO are very focused on themselves and their sobriety which only makes sense. Great camaraderie can be found in the Just Getting Started area, but great advice can be found elsewhere. Use the whole site and find if there's an area that seems a better fit for you.

Ha Ha... almost.. I'm maybe 5 ft 2 MAX - probably closer to 5"1... so Library Girl, you've still got a good two inches at least on me! Plus, I'm small boned so I really am carrying a lot of extra fat for me at the moment.

The other thing that worries me is that virtually all my excess weight is located around my belly/boobs and I know that excess abdomen fat poses a big risk for heart disease and Type 2 diabetes, both of which run strongly in my family. I talked to my doctor about it after I had a blood sugar test that was verging on high - not diabetes range yet but on that path - and she said if I could even lose a kilo or two of fat and replace it with muscle it'd reverse that trend. So I've really gotta get on the exercise too and that's hard for me being the bookworm, couch potato I am!

Going AF is going to be a HUGE help in both the fighting the diabetes concern - messes with your insulin big time! - and losing weight. So go us!

thanks for the words of encouragement guys and right back at ya!

FreeFly, can I please just echo the above. Please do stick around! I know there've been times I've posted something personal/upsetting and not got response (not meaning lately in Newbies but in general) and felt bad about it but, really, it's a big site, so much going on, it's easy for people to miss things sometimes.

And, I think Fly Away is totally right about Newbies being kind of self focused. I know I am at the moment! Because at the moment my own struggle is so all consuming. I would assume/hope I'll have more to offer others when those mists have cleared a little if that makes sense.

So, please, stick around! Keep posting! And read what some of the long termers like Doggie, Unwasted, Guitarista etc have to say - their posts and support have helped me a LOT.

          Hugs,:h

Good for you! Newbies need to be self-focused but may not always be the best when it comes to helping others. Not for lack of want, but because they are self-focused and don't really have the experience to give advice. You'll definitely get lots of understanding and "me too" support in the Newbie area.

This is probably the 4th time I've tried to quit in the past year. This time I avoided the Newbie area when I started. Just because I didn't feel like I could support others and get wrapped up in getting someone else to sobriety until I had some footing myself. I've only recently started posting there after nearly 4 months sober because I'm feeling stronger.

Hey all-- this is my weigh day but I am on vacation and there is no scale ( I know -- excuses -- lol)-- I have not been drinking, have been walking 4.5 miles daily and have been eating grilled fish every meal so I am hoping I am doing okay. Posting on iPhone - will check in later maybe. Good job y'all!

Hi ATL, Good for you! Hopefully the scales will prove that you've done a good job with the walking and the grilled fish. We went on a trip and when we returned I got a tummy flu, which was most unpleasant, but DID help my weight loss program. Now am trying to keep it off...

I weighed this morning and was back up 1 lb, which means 2 lbs since wed. a week ago, not last wed. :upset: Fri I was 3 lbs down. Ugh. I guess the 3 candy bars this wkend didn't help a bit. I had one on Sat. and two more Sun. Never ask a skinny guy to bring home a candy bar, lol. He thought if one was good a whole bag of king-size ones would be better. Not so much.

Anyway, I'm still losing so that's a plus!

                      Great work guys!

                          Weight Loss Support Thread!!!

By the way, I am doing weight watchers on line for all those who mentioned weight watchers as their diet of choice. I get 28 points-- my husband gets like 49 the bastard -- lol!! It's a good thing we aren't drinking -- drink is like 4 or 5 points for goodness sakes!! That really struck me-- but I do think it is reflective for me of the effect it had on my metabolism.

LG-- good breakfast, get right back on the old diet horse-- you can do it. Good luck everyone, drink tons of water today-- that helps with the no alcohol thing too-- and also as someone who has been AF for awhile-- creating a focus of thinking in terms of that you are just not drinking because you want to hit a weight loss goal was what lead me to stop beating myself up at first-- when I was first sober I spent a ton of time being scared of what I had done to myself and what I had to lose or gain from not drinking-- finally I just decided that was so scary I was going to think of it at first in terms of diet and fitness and it worked pretty well-- didn't lose much weight then because my body was adjusting to the heck it had been put through but that got me in a good frame of mind to continue to be alcohol free and to hit the gym harder with a better fitness plan. I have some non alcohol health issues that made making that plan a little harder too so had to take those into consideration.

We can do this!! Time to hit the beach-- hot as fire here

Yes, ATL, good thoughts to consider. And, with that thinking I know that I will have to be sober for at least a good 7-8 months if not a year to lose 60 lbs, lol. So, onward and upward I march!!!

You know, that's actually very wise. Newbies seems the natural place to post when you're starting out - and it's a great spot - but in many ways I get the most from those with some good time under their belt and only have so much to give myself at the moment. (Hopefully that will change in time.)

On the weight loss front, I can't believe I'm down 1.2 kilos (2.6 lbs) since Saturday. That has to be some alcohol bloat. But I've been eating healthily - cutting back on carbs, trying to be low GI and I've done 45 mins on the treadmill at the gym the last three days. It's a start. Out to dinner tonight and have a few lunches, dinners out over the weekend, which is going to make it harder. But also have a 10km walk planned with a friend on Monday (Queens Birthday long weekend here) if the weather is good so that ought to help.

                              Onward all...
