I'm off on a ramble now! Yiz'll be wishing I was back in the yard! I reckon that the women that were nannies and school teachers back in the day were very clever. If you think about it, men ruled the roost and there were no decent wages to be had... and these women saw a niche and made a good living when other females got paid next to nowt. Nurses too... back in the day. Of course, one could always have become a prostitute... that paid well too.mollyka;1501607 wrote: would also explain why mostly the nannies etc. employed by wealthy people back in the day were usually sprog free - much more sensible!!

Jaysus... yer family likes to keep things ticking along at high speed methinks. Unlike you... you like it calm. Are you the non-drama one in the household?

xpost: mum knows, she used to let us all smoke pot in the living room, she still lets my brother smoke it in his room, and complains about him dealing but does nothing. mothers approach seems to be to avoid stepping in as much as she can.I have faced it, a life wasted, and I am never going back there again

I agree with you completely.Zenstyle;1501603 wrote: Reccy... they're lucky to have our non-parent trained opinions wouldn't ya say?!!! We'd be deadly if we had sprogs...
That made me laugh! But no, I shouldn't be put in charge of a pot plant, never mind 4 kids (as in molly's case).
It amazes me how you manage to be so level headed with all that stuff going on in your household inchy.InChains;1501604 wrote: haha, since posting that some crazy lady accused my brother of robbing her shop, taking 'never a dull moment' to a new level there *sigh* sometimes I find myself longing for a boring day xD

xpost: I've been off it since I started my meds and found they lowered my resistance to alcohol and pot, my first heavy smoking session following starting the pills resulted in a panic attack that scared the living bejesus out of me, haven't touched a joint since. at one point i could pass out after 3 glasses of wine too, soon changed that though hahaI have faced it, a life wasted, and I am never going back there again

I hear you... it IS still a man's world. But isn't it nice to see the single dads with their kids? Back then it was totally un-manly to tend to your children... and I reckon the guys missed out on stuff as well as the women.mollyka;1501619 wrote:
They were and they weren't really - s'pose there was a niche or they were 'niched' -- wasn't easy bein a woman back then for sure -- 'tis still a man's world imo - and YET - the funny thing is that the expression 'behind every good man is a good woman' (or something like that) is so bloody true, they usually were the ones and still are ruling things - I know my Mum was definitely the boss in our house - but you'd never know it to see them --- Dad was the victorian type 'head of house'
BUT... there is still an inequitable lack of balance... you are dead right. I also agree with the strong woman behind a guy and sometimes it's just easier to work as a team and let the feller be the front man... I did that in my marriage and with the guy I was working with (and engaged to) for a chunk of my life before my husband.
I am now, literally, SPRAWLED OUT on the couch. Feels feckin ace!
