Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...

Another 24 hours please & thank you.

The Black Friday ads are out so there might be some retail therapy later today. Also coffee out with Mrs QW at at a new place.

Add me to the list of people who don’t like “powerless”. As Mr V said, “we do risk bad things happening IF we drink”. We can also have, and will, have good things happen if we don’t drink!

Have a great af Friday everyone.

I have enjoyed all the discussion about today’s quote and about being “powerless”. All so true, and I have taken it to heart.
Going for another sober day today!

Hello all - I also enjoyed the discussion. Thank you.

I don't like the word powerless either. I guess I'm too stubborn. But, like everyone said......once I have that first sip, it's over for me. I am no longer i control. I just need to remember that.

Another 24 please - thank you

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...

A lot of emotions today. Even this too shall pass. It might feel like a kidney stone, but it will pass. I don't drink. ~Mr Vervill, 1/8/18

For the record, I too don't like the word powerless applied to me! That's why I've come to terms with the thought of defining my power in the choice of leaving it in the bottle. I DO have that power! But there is no shame in having a broken off switch. Being ashamed of that would be the same as being ashamed of having diabetes, or Parkinson's or hearing loss, etc.. It's just what is and it's the hand we've been dealt. Just a twist of fate. Reality. Must be dealt with as is. So, we exercise our power thru choice. I think this quote of Mr. V's hits it!

I am struggling with the shortness of the daylight. I used to welcome winter as a good time to drink alone. Getting dark early meant settling in for long evenings at home with my buddy, Chardonnay and occasionally some hard spirits as well. I didn't think there was anything wrong with that until of course, I gradually lost ground and constantly over did it. Even then, I though I was only hurting myself. But finally at some point Mr. D expressed how lonely it was for him. I guess the threesome wasn't working out so great for him but I was too lost to see it. When your drinking took place mostly at home, winter is a dangerous season...I'm coping tho, and it is much easier than it used to be. Just sometimes...

24 more please.

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Good morning Cafe. Add me to the list of not liking the word powerless. I don’t need to add anything as everyone already expressed it well. Dill, I totally get it about the early dark evenings. I find them sometimes lonely and depressing. This might sound crazy but I started coloring. There is a free app called happy color and it is what I do at night. It’s relaxing and pointless. At least when I’m coloring I’m not drinking or eating. Whatever it takes!! In fact, I will share one of my pictures. This one is for Ginger and those out west. . Another 24 for me please and thanks!

Thanks for the great quote dill and Mr. V! Feelings and urges do pass eventually...it just takes a lot of strength to ride it out.

Loved the pic Rava! I also have tons of adult coloring books, (not porn) which definitely helps pass the time and calm any anxieties. I'll have to check out that app!

Any luck hunting cowboy? Mr. J still hasn't gotten a deer, but there are still a few weeks left.

I also don't like the word powerless. As long as we are able to make choices, the power is always within us.

Hope that you are feeling better Ginger999!

I'm in for another 24 please!

Nice work, Rava. It looks like the Superstition Mountains that I look at every morning on my walk. Love it!

I don't like the word powerless either but I will admit, when I drank I was. It took that part of my brain that gave me my power and turned it to mush. If it didn't, I could drink just one and go about my evening. Nope, mush brain here and powerless.

I'll take another 24, please and thank you!

Just something quick before I head out to Adam's for the weekend hunt. The hunting is going great Jude58! It's the filling of the tags that's not so good lol. Neither Adam nor I have pulled a trigger yet. We're seeing way less deer, elk, and moose than we've ever seen. We both agree that the past 2 brutally cold winters have taken it's toll on the wildlife. Around these parts you can purchase a general whitetail deer tag which allows you to shoot either does (females) or bucks (males). Mule deer, elk, and moose, both male and female is on a limited "draw" basis. Adam got drawn for bull moose and I got drawn for mule deer buck, so we could shoot 4 animals between us. Haven't shot anything yet because we're more outdoorsman than hunters lol.

34F and sunny, but 100% chance of Rain/snow mix later today.
Hmm, wonder what was bothering that Jan. day, lol. Doesn't matter, because it passed, and I got through it. Probably the lull after the holidays, and the dark days of winter.

Another 24 hours please & thank you.

Nice and mild today, might get two walks in again today. Jessie won’t complain I bet.

Today is nuts n bolts baking day. My granddaughter has a severe nut allergy so the ones that go to her house have Smarties instead of peanuts and mixed nuts. I’ve been making nuts n bolts annually for about 30 years and the kids, and now grandkids, look forward to them.

Great conversations about powerless. It’s amazing what we can do when we want to.

Cowboy, we haven’t seen many deer around here either although they usually disappear for hunting season and re-appear December 1st. I agree that being in nature with a friend/family member is the best part of hunting. I used to be an avid fisherman and felt that catching a fish was a bonus. Stay safe and have a great time!

Hope everyone enjoys their Saturday af!

Travelled today, driving with my mom, sister, & teen daughter to a neighboring state for my uncle’s 80th birthday party and to visit relatives. It was a very nice day. So winding up another 24 hours that I spent successfully sober! Wish I could say the same for my twin sister -sheesh. She’s pretty far gone and running into walls.
My uncle with Parkinson’s seems to be doing pretty well! He lives in assisted living, still has his sense of humor, and is still driving himself! (Not sure that that’s the best idea though.)

I wish I wasn’t powerless over alcohol -but I am now. Some line got crossed. But I have made peace with that, and am happy to have the power to just part company with it now and walk away. And I enjoy the freedoms that come from that.

Canada must be a tough place for wildlife to survive, Cowboy, when it goes into the deep freeze periods. I never thought much about that.

Jude! “adult coloring books (not porn)” -my laugh for the day!

We have all decided to not stay stuck and thats what brought us here. Living our life not being present is what brought me here. And like Slo said I crossed that line too. Those days of having a glass of wine or a drink are long gone. There is no such thing as one drink in my world. Had to make a change in order to live my best life. I’m headed back to the cold today. Hope everyone has a great and sober Sunday. I will miss breakfast today Cowboy due to my flight. Another 24 for me please and thank you!
