6:10am in Alberta, 24 for me and everyone else who needs them please, and thanks...

In the past 24 hours, these people have signed in for 24 hours of sobriety:

Today is going to be a darn good day not to drink!
Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

Yummm! How did you know I was in the mood for pancakes, Cowboy! Thanks.

Good quote, QW. It reminded me of the bad old days of having to break a day into doable units, some times an hour at a time, to get thru. I'm glad those days are long gone. Still, it is good to remember just what a hold alcohol had at first. I was terrified at the thought of not drinking for a day, much less forever.

The weather is equally awful here, Jude. Cloudy, rain and cold. Are you in home health care? I was wondering if your work is more stressful because of the covid, but I'm embarrassed to say I don't recall exactly what type of work you do. My apologies if you have already told us. My apologies if you don't care to share and my question is intrusive!

I'm sure you all know that I am retired, but only some of you know from what. In my former life I was a speech therapist in the public schools. I loved my job until I didn't. When I retired, I was ready to retire! That said, I still have a desire to remain active and engaged and I am truly missing my coffee shop gig!

24 more for each of us here, please and thank you.
Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Aww Dill, I'll bet you miss your coffee shop gig and the regular schedule+the people, I told my daughter yesterday that I thought I was antisocial but here I am missing chatting with my customers (even the ones I didn't really like, now I miss) I bet you're feeling the same conflict as me in a way, 5:56 am in Vegas another 24
I have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:

Drinkin won't help a damn thing! Will only make me sick for DAYS and that ugly, spacey dumb feeling-no thanks!

Another 24 hours please & thank you.

A cool but sunny start to the day. Jessie and I will head out shortly. This has become our favourite time of day to walk.

My sister’s youngest son has autism. When he was young, his parents spent a fortune on specialists, including a speech therapist. Fast forward several years, this young man graduated from the University of Toronto with honours in computer programming and is currently enjoying his career with IBM. Dill, he wouldn’t be where he is now without the caring help of many people, including a speech therapist.
Having said that, I too found in my banking career that I loved my job until I didn’t. I take pride in the fact there are 100’s of small businesses around because I believed in them. Sadly the bureaucracy of head office and my low tolerance for BS did me in. And when I retired as an economic developer, it was time. I miss the people I worked with and for, but not the politics.
And as I’ve said here before, retirement is the best job ever! Because of Covid-19, my volunteer activities have been shelved but hopefully I’ll be able to get back to them soon.

Have a great af Sunday everyone, stay safe & well.

Thanks for the, quotes, Rava. Safe travels home when you get headed that way.

Good reminder, QW. Enjoy that walk.

ABC, hubs is making pancakes right now! Yum.

They did an autopsy on my friend and it turns out she did not have corona. She'd been having pressure in her chest for about 2 weeks prior to hospitalization. Because of the virus she decided to just sit it out until things settled down. That was her undoing. She had a heart attack shortly after she arrived at hospital and they were unable to help her. I read that heart attacks and strokes are up because people aren't seeking help. Turns out she was one of those. So not corona but corona. So then I did a thing, I went and got my two littles gsons and had an overnight. There.... I confess. Tired of not living.

I'll take another 24, please and thank you!

When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off into the wind, not with it. Henry Ford

This applies to so many challenges we face in daily living, not just in our quits. But, as we know, being prepared for any situation makes it better for us to deal with.

dill....I work with people that have dementia and Alzheimer's. Usually in their homes, but sometimes in assisted living facilities. The work is very rewarding, but often very difficult and heart wrenching.

A cloudy, mild start to the day. Should be a nice walk this morning. Yesterday Jessie spotted a rabbit in our neighbourhood that she thought needed herding. I tried to tell her there’s no way she would have caught it but judging from the twitching when she napped yesterday, she was in full pursuit!

Lawn raking and furniture moving is on my honey do list today. Do I know how to have fun or what?

Have a great af Monday everyone. Stay safe, stay well.

Yay for you, Ginger! I'd do that in a heartbeat if Mr. D would agree. I am so sorry about your friend. A needless death. I have been hearing more and more stories like that. There are consequences to every action. I think it's well past time for the governors to relax restrictions as far as health care goes. So many people are afraid to go to hospitals and they really are dying because of it!

Pauly, I think of myself as being kind of anti social too, but these extreme conditions are hared on me as well. Mostly not being with the grandkids is what is getting too difficult.

QW, funny how we just hit a wall and knew it was time to find the door! I was fine with the actual therapy part of the job, but the paperwork and politics just took all the joy out of it in the end.

Jude58, have your home visits or nursing facility hours been cut back or are you doing more than ever?

Here is a link to a very interesting covid briefing given by a couple of ER doctors in California. It is long but if you have the time it is a really good video. Ginger999, they also talk about the fact that people are dying because they won't seek medical help when they need it.

24 more for all of us here as we try to find our way out of this mess!

Live less out of habit and more out of intent

37 years ago this month I gave up cigarettes, cold turkey. Prior to quitting I realized how many times I’d light up out of habit. I always had a smoke while I was shaving, another after breakfast, 2 more on the drive to work. I’d light up every time my phone rang at the office.
I came to the realization that I didn’t actually enjoy smoking anymore. Mrs QW and our 5 year old son were thrilled when I quit. With the money I wasn’t wasting, we were able to enjoy more family activities. Today, I still consider myself a smoker even though I haven’t touched a cigarette since I quit.
Too bad it took me 36 years to figure out the same thing with alcohol!
