Re: Join the Army Agarinst Alcohol ..............Mad March 2017
Does that mean I've got to be nice to yis all?
Here's a question...........at the new place you know its very much 12 step based..........most of the ones I know from the old days do mebbees a couple of meetings a week except one lass...........she must have been in and out of the rooms for 10 years at the most...re-hab at least twice.......now to me that's saying its not working for her..........we always have a good old natter at half time (I don't go into the meetings)...........would it be wrong of me to perhaps suggest she tries something else like MWO or SMART or another on-line forum. It could be worse, I could be filing.

I had missed it too. Busy day, work etc. No harm JC, sometimes helps to try something new. 12 steps not for everyone and a fresh approach might help, Night allOriginally posted by NoraC View PostWow - moderators/managers. FANTASTIC!! Thanks for pointing it out - I had missed it.

Hi JC, I reckon you would need to tread carefully lest someone gets the wrong idea and their nose is put out of joint. Having said that I would definitely mention to her what has worked for you and so many others here. Often a multi faceted approach is preferable, try everything to make it stick, never rule anything out, for it is our lives we are taking about here.Originally posted by JackieClaire View PostDoes that mean I've got to be nice to yis all?

Re: Join the Army Agarinst Alcohol ..............Mad March 2017
Hi Jacks, We are all so different, and yet we are all the same in that we have one specific goal on here and that is to beat this addiction. Personally I would have only one difficulty with putting someone I got to know in the direction of MWO and that is that this place is as anonymous as you want it to be. Yes, there are people who have met up for coffee on here and yes, there are people who have become friends "outside" MWO as a result of their "meeting" on here. I may be a little uncomfortable in sharing some of the more personal bits on here if I had been introduced by someone, and they were still active here.Originally posted by JackieClaire View Post... Other than that, can you not talk to your bosses at your place and I'm sure you've already shared your story with them. I know that the whole AA thing, and the "12 steps" has worked for many people throughout the World, otherwise there would not be countless hundreds of thousands of meetings, globally, but it is NOT for everyone, and I think even those at the very top of AA would accept that.
Personally it is not for me, but I acknowledge the fantastic, no, truly AMAZING work that AA has done throughout the World, but I will continue to tuck myself in here as this is very much one of the, if not THE most important parts of "My Way Out" of my addiction and I would, with that one reservation, love to share that with others with this addiction. I would have looked and tried (as I did with AA, although I found that was not for me, personally) if someone had told me about MWO.
I actually found it by chance with my friend Mr Google, but I shall continue to be eternally grateful that I found this place and would be happy if someone had "introduced" me to it rather than just having come here "by chance" (if you believe anything is "by chance"!).
It's difficult as you could be wrong-footing yourself at work, but I'd talk to someone there and ask if they were comfortable with you mentioning it to your client.
Just my two penny worth!
Tony

Re: Join the Army Agarinst Alcohol ..............Mad March 2017
Hi Jackie tis a tricky one alright especially as you are talking to her in an AA house, Some folks can get particularly precious about the way out of this nightmare. I would ask her what is it that she is not getting at the meetings, steer her onto that path & gently say have you ever tried somewhere or some other approach , She can still go to the AA house as others have said, For me a multiple of tools put me on the right road. Good luck :-)Originally posted by JackieClaire View PostDoes that mean I've got to be nice to yis all?

If it were me JC, I think I'd just mention that maybe a little more help and support might add to her toolbox and maybe she could try MWO or one of the other methods in addition to AA. Just plant the idea, she can then make the choice...Last edited by abcowboy; March 28, 2017, 07:35 AM.Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

You're all blooming brilliant,
Toe Knee, it went through my mind about MWO that this is mine all mine only and yer not getting yer hands on it......and it would be as obvious as the nose on her face who I was.
Mariooooooooo, there's the thing. Some are very precious and apart from anything else I'm very, very new. I'll just share what worked for me.
Coyboy, I could just casually mention if she's not up to a meeting she tried on-line.
Of course I could be totally wrong and she's found meetings that she likes betterand is more comfortable with or she's just gone on holiday. It could be worse, I could be filing.

Evening,
Agree with all the comments too JC, especially the anonymity (I was a nervous wreck posting the first few times, as if everyone I knew would get an instant news feed!).
There are lots of other places online you could point her to - Hello Sunday morning (I tried that, wasnt for me), Sober recovery?
