Re: One Step at a Time - July 2017

Happy Monday. I have a matured dog that wants to find cats and other animals and a puppy that chases the matured dog. I hear lots of growling in the training process. So its been an active morning. But good morning!

NoraC the last time we had a flea infestation was like 30 years ago. (as I was 10). Not sure what we used, but we had carpet at the time. Now I only check when they come in for ticks. I would hate to spot a flea! But ticks are worse than fleas. Curious the product used. My dogs stay inside most of the time.

Good morning.

I'll have to look up the name of the pill they gave the dogs for fleas. It's a prescription only thing. I'll let you know.

Have a great day

ToMyHealth, I will only comment on your friend that fell of the bike. I'm sorry about everything else. I fell off rollerblades and broke my wrist, both bones. I was drunk when it happened so I didn't feel it until i woke up the next morning screaming in crazy pain, surprised I could call a phone for a ride to help me. My wrist does not bend at the right spot, but its usable.

Thanks for the call-out, Nora. I do follow the lives of all the steppers and enjoy seeing people live and thrive without the burden of alcohol. Everything is just so much easier without it!!

I hope you carve out some time for you (and for you and your husband). It isn't at all selfish for you to do that. Just like there were perfectly good babysitters for your son when he was young, there are carers out there who will be perfect for your mom. It is just so hard to let go. I can see how much you love your mom and want to make sure she receives the best care possible but you really do have to take care of yourself first, which is what will enable you to be there for her over the long run. I watched my mom go through what you're experiencing and it just about did her in. You're taking good care of yourself by not drinking but there's more you should probably do, and with NO guilt. xx

TMH, I hope you continue to get 'no cancer' news. I've had test results say I have all sorts of things that I don't actually have. They are just "markers", after all -not diagnoses.

I'm enjoying my grandkids like the other grandmas on this thread and am so grateful to fully trust myself to take care of them - it sickens me to think of what I'd be missing if I hadn't quit drinking.

Have a great day, Steppers! NS

For all you with flea troubles, google food grade diatomaceous earth. It will get rid of fleas in your house and on your dogs in a matter of days. The instructions are all there on the internet. It gets rid of all house pests like bugs, ANTS, spiders, fleas etc. Also has some awesome health benefits. Just make sure it is "food grade". Cheap too.

I don't know how many of you remember Ruby Willow. She has had a stroke and doesn't look good. Very sad.

NoSugar may I ask if you meant your mom was caring for someone with dementia, and that's what almost did her in? I see my mother is struggling to care for my father now. She will be 86 on Sunday. Did your mom get the help she needed? I am not sure what we are going to do, but we need to do something.

Nora, perhaps Ruby willow was before my time? How sad that she is not doing well. Are you in touch with her or was it posted here?

Techie I hope your medical visit goes well. Keep us posted?

Erin and Logan came by today. Erin and I hung out in the pool for a bit while the baby slept. Such a nice day to be outside. Erin got a a little sunburn on her legs, ouch! CJ and joe finally, I believe, mailed out the last of the wedding invites tonight. They were going to meet with the priest from Joes church. Got my fingers crossed this all works out.
Wishing us all a peaceful AF night.

Hi Liz - I'm glad that they finally got those mailed! Nice that you got to hang out today. When does Erin have to go back to work?

Techie - I'm so glad that you are feeling better. Sending you lots of positive energy.

NS - that's such a great thing to be able to 'be there' for your grandkids. I am looking forward to it!

Need to go check out the flea stuff! Mom is absolutely miserable with her itching. I gave her a benadryl, then a tylenol, washed her arms with aveeno and then put cortisone cream on the spots. She has scratched so much that she's made her arms raw.

Pauly - in case I don't make it over to Paulysville, you have been in my thoughts. I'm glad you are going to keep checking in at the cafe.

Rusty - where are you working this week? Is your Mom home?

Got to run - hugs to everyone

diatomaceous earth DE, is an odd substance. Its microscopic fossils and i'd suggest it for plants to kill mites. Not sure about the food idea or using it on my pet, I'd have to read more. Apparently my sister uses it. For some reason it frightens me. Some curious facts about it is that it was often used and still is sometimes for pool filtration. I was a pool tech for a decade. It is illegal to dump in a sewer and will clog drains as its so bloody heavy when wet it will not move. Breathing it is insane when filling the filter as it does not leave your lungs. One of the reasons i'm afraid of it. I can definately see it would kill fleas but what the heck other problems can happen. Do some research.

Hi All,

Long commutes to work this week....come on, FRIDAY! I am off on Friday. Thanks for asking, Nora!:heartbeat: I hope your mom gets some relief from the itching. How miserable. I have never heard of a flea outbreak. WOW!

Techie-so glad you are feeling better, my dear.

Hi to everyone else. Happy Tuesday.

NoSugar, no need to frighten you but crazy stuff happens. This may have been compassionate care as its supposed to be. Come on doctors kill people out of compassion but they are licensed doctors. But like I said crazy things happen. Assisted suicide is a hot topic. So stay on top of it and watch what lies you are told.

Former nurse Elizabeth Wettlaufer told a Woodstock, Ont., courtroom Monday that she was "extremely sorry" for killing eight nursing home patients before being sentenced to eight concurrent life terms in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.

This lady from a nursing home got 7 life sentences at the age of 50 which means she will die in jail. We don't know if it was consentual to be honest. I'd have to study the case closer. We breach some crazy topic. It costs hundreds of thousands to keep this lady in jail with little chance of parole. So what are we doing with assisted suicide. Maybe she wants to die or wait it out to see if she gets parole. Unfortunately its hard to find out and a breaking point where suicide and assisted or death by force. Who in the hell knows and us as a society have to figure it out.

"Euthanasia in Canada" in its legal voluntary form is called medically assisted dying (colloquially assisted suicide or death with dignity) and became legal as of June 2016 to relieve the suffering of terminally ill adults. ... Consent must be repeatedly expressed, not implied, including in the moment right before death.

Not sure this applies to your situation as I skim read and maybe its not meant for you.

This was because nobody was taking care of anything and my parents were in marital trouble eventually becoming divorced. I could find a flea every 10cm and used to squish and roll them. I have no idea how the problem got solved eventually as I was 10.
