        I'm glad some people have got something out of this. I actually got this link from another member here, I'm think it was Meditation Mamma. But as Trixie says, it basically says what "Seven Weeks to Sobriety" does, but in a much more concise way.

        The author of "Seven Weeks" (Joan Mathews Larson) became drawn into treatment for alcoholics after her son, an alcoholic, committed suicide. He had cleaned himself up and was on the brink of a new life when he took his own life at 17. She wanted to know what could have been done to prevent this, and it motivated her to study and develop this programme. Her rehab clinic (Health Recovery Center) uses a holistic approach and is one of the most successful in the world.

        Everyone-- you need to recognise you are not just messed up psychologically (if you are at all). There is an important biochemical aspect to most people's alcohol problem. I think that we should all try to treat that first, and take on the psychological factors after.
        Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

          Thanks for this post beatle...........I was very interested in this article. I`ve tried to get my hands on a copy of "7 wks" here in Glasgow, but apparently Waterstone`s last sold it 5 yrs ago!!!! Will figure out some other way to get a copy. I really do believe that much of the answer to substance abuse, depression and anxiety lies in nutrition and the supps you so rightly recommend. Quitting drinking in itself, will not result in us becoming truly well.

                Anyway, if you are really committed to beating this alcohol thing, I think you need to attack it from all sides. Yes, you have to confront and deal with your emotional baggage, your life situation, etc. But obviously, there are a lot of physical things going on and there is a lot you can do to help your body and your brain heal physically.

                Even if you feel pretty ok now, if you have been drinking heavily and/or for a long time, you have abused your body and brain and they need help. Sticking to a good supplement programme and good nutrition will also make it much easier to STAY sober. I would say any recovering alcoholic MUST pay close attention to nutrition and take supplements-- or they are taking a huge risk with their health and will probably fail to stay sober, as well.

                That said, I think you yourself have to decide just how to go about it. The easiest thing to do is to get the MWO stuff (or just follow the MWO guidelines) and add or substract as you see fit (tailor it to your needs).

                If you decide you want to put your programme together on your own, using locally purchased supps, I recommend the following products from MWO no matter what else you do.

                -kudzu (if you want to take it) (I don't trust any other kudzu than MWO)
                - ALL ONE -- as a meal replacement if you ever have problems eating nutritious meals, this is great to have around even if you get your daily supps someplace else.
                -B-50 caps (way superior to most B-complexes you will find in the stores)
                -Milk thistle (I also believe this is superior to the local stuff, but I don't know what you get locally).
                -True Calm (If you have anxiety or restlessness-- I take a double dose as needed).

                If you are like me, and feel the need to do everything "all the way", I highly recommend the "Seven Weeks to Sobriety" book. Its main focus is on using nutrition and supplements to fix the recovering alcoholic's brain (and body). It is very specific about what to eat and what supps to take and when (It has a detailed schedule and explains each supplement and what it does). The Seven Week programme's out-patient rehab center has one of the highest success rates for alcoholic recovery in the world. You don't have to go to the center, though, because it's all in the book.

                Seven Weeks works together with a Lab called "Bio-Recovery" and you can just order everything from there. There are many different packs that include the basic programme, but tailored for different problems, so you can choose which one is best for you (i.e. for anxiety, for depression, for fatige, etc..) You can also order every item separately, and they have a ton of good stuff. Just take a look.

                Anyway, this is what I've come to after more than a year of trying to stay sober (detoxing, sober, drinking, detoxing, sober, drinking...) and it was only after getting very serious about this that I can feel I am making progress (and feel much better physically as well).                 Thanks for posting all of this, Beatle... I'm feeling stronger (Day 7) than I've felt in a long time and was beginning to think maybe I shouldn't have ordered the supps., but after reading what you just wrote I know in certain situations and going into habit situations where drinking was the NORM, the supps. will come in handy.

                I just wish they would hurry up and arrive, hopefully before the weekend. Saturdays and Sundays are big drink days for me and they will be here soon, and I need those supps. I was just thinking before I came in here that I've been doing very well, but the weekend will be a true challenge.

                For the record, I've been depressed since junior high. I know a lot of my drinking stemmed from low self-esteem and other emotional issues and it just spiraled out of control to where I'm at today.
