    Re: Newbies Nest

    Hi, All:

Glad you didn't drink, 3BOW. I feel that quitting drinking has greatly reduced the number and strength of those doomsday scenarios that I paint for myself. I'm glad you got the call and I hope for a great outcome! But guess what - even if you have a bad outcome, it isn't worth drinking. Drinking doesn't get rid of problems, just delays them. But you know that - which is why you didn't drink...

I went five years without ingesting any drug whatsoever and then tried a couple of THC edibles just to see. At one point I had a very stressful evening and found myself saying "I need a mint..." That caught me dead - when you get into that language, you know it can be a problem. So I didn't take the mint and I processed those feelings with all of my other tools. Now I take an edible from time to time (like six times a year) for the fun of it. I know that many addiction specialists would say I shouldn't, but I just don't feel like I would remotely be interested enough to get addicted. Nevertheless, I am very honest about what I do with a small group of sober friends and I know they would call me on my bullshit if it came to that. So not a drug to get off a drug, but a drug nevertheless.

I have been cooking all day and a lot of the weekend, including two recipes that called for wine. On Friday night as I was exhausted and pouring the wine I had a moment... I poured the rest of it down the drain and decided I will be looking for recipes without wine for a while. I put vinegar in sometimes or lemon to get that snap, but I haven't found any great substitute yet. Anyone else?

NS - So sorry about your doggy. I'm glad your son called and you could let it all out. Why was she prescribed gabapentin?

Wags - Schadenfreude is definitely in the air. And yet no one knows what is really going on because he is so untrustworthy. All of those scenarios have been in my mind except for the faked death... I was thinking he would fake illness if given enough incentive by the right people, and let Pence go forward in the election. We'll see...

Happy SOBER Sunday everyone. Good to see you all and sorry I'm not commenting on everyone's posts. Still cooking because I need to deliver some things today (two sick friends and another friend who is alone with his three kids because his wife is off taking care of her sick dad). I enjoy listening to podcasts and cooking - good down time for me.

      Good evening Nesters,

Nice day, not sure but I think it may rain overnight.

Pav, I never use wine for cooking. I have a variety of flavored vinegars that I use like plum vinegar. Adds a little kick when you use just a few drops in your recipe. Nice of you to do all that cooking & caring for others

Anjicia, I’ve been here since 2009 & haven’t looked at the meds section for years. I also remembering a lot of fighting & arguing & that wasn’t what I wanted or needed. I didn’t use any meds myself but that was my choice. There have been research studies going on for years using Naltrexone, I’m not interested. People need to make their own choices, none of my business really.

Byrdie, so true about throwing big parties. They are in my past too. I actually don’t have the energy or desire anymore haha!! I have given lots of extra cooking & serving things to my kids, it’s their turn.

Ava, glad you got out to the beach for some fresh air, sounds nice

Wags, good news about your doggie!
Hope the ear infection clears soon.

      Hi G & NS & everyone!
Wishing a safe night in the nest for all!

          Good Morning, all:

Off to work is what's up. I slept in on Sunday which I rarely do - 9.5 hours! So this morning came as a jolt. But I got up and did my yoga practice (thanks, G) and am drinking my coffee while checking in here.

Hope you all have days that are as good as possible...

            Re: Newbies Nest

Monday morning here in the Pacific NorthWest of the U.S. and I've got a busy day ahead. We got some big home projects done over the weekend and now I'm back to teaching online today. Hoping to fit some fun in tomorrow or mid-week.

Pav - I get it with the edibles and it doesn't sound like you're at risk, especially if you're not actually using them in an "I need an edible..." way. Having said that, I'm not sure everyone could do it that way.

Byrdie and Anj - on the topic of downsizing or minimalizing, one of the big things we got done this weekend was making a sizable dent in the "get rid of stuff" project that is on our list. We've scheduled a donation pickup for the end of Oct and we're allowed to put out up to 25 boxes/bags of stuff. Our goal is to hit the 25 mark!

Ava - I'm jealous of you heading into your warmer months. Between Covid (my state is STILL in the early stages of re-opening) and the wildfires, it feels like we missed a lot of the summer. I hope the warmer weather brings increasingly better health to everyone in your part of the world.

Hellos and waves to everyone stopping by the nest today!

              Happy Un Hung Monday everyone.

Pav, l love to listen to podcasts while cooking too. Very relaxing.

Byrdie, Anj, Wags, I got rid of a bunch of stuff this weekend too. My SIL took a bunch of 'memorabilia' boxes which we were storing for my hubbies parents (FIL has passed away and MIL doesn't want the stuff). It sure makes you see that there is not use in buying a bunch a stuff that your kinds are eventually going to throw out.

Ava, we have unseasonably warm weather here. It is hard to believe that today we are going to be in the mid 20's (70's F). It is awesome.

Anjicia, I’ve been here since 2009 & haven’t looked at the meds section for years. I also remembering a lot of fighting & arguing & that wasn’t what I wanted or needed. I tried the meds and tried to moderate for a few years (like 8 years) and it did not work for me. My join date here is 2006 and my actual quit date is 2014.

Byrdie, I am with you on the interview. What a pain to answer that stupid question, I really loved the answer you wanted to give, lol. "I have no tolerance for idiotic interview questions" That is Good!

So I was watching "This is Us" on Netflix, I love the show even though it can be a bit heavy sometimes. In one scene one of the characters was drinking scotch after a hard day and I thought- "Oh, I could drink a small amount of Tia Maria or Drambuie. I am sure I could stop at one, I just like the taste and warm feeling it brings. I don't have to tell anyone at MWO."
              Holy Crap!
Stay vigilant people, where do these thoughts come from, FFS? I knew I had to mention it here, it would be so easy to relapse.

                Good evening Nesters!

                Nice day here again, grateful
I have been trying to catch up on some house cleaning & de-cluttering myself & also my gardens. My herb garden kinda looks like it turned into a big blob instead of half a dozzen individual plants, haha. I did quite a bit of trimming.

Pav, hope. Your day was good!

Wags, I actually love getting rid of unused stuff especially if it’s something that can help someone else. I schedule a pick-up with the Purple Heart organization a few times a year. I also don’t want to leave all this stuff sitting around for my kids to deal with after we’re gone. I’mnice that way, haha!!

Anjicia, how did you spend your rainy day?

Narilly, I did several years of quitting & trying to moderate before coming here. I knew it was never going to work for me so I hopped right on the AF wagon & have stayed put all these years. It was the right thing for me to do

Hello to all & wishing everyone a safe night in the nest!

                  Re: Newbies Nest

Good afternoon Nesters another mixed day here of rain showers grey sky but with the sun peeking out now and then. Well yesterday my rainy day was fairly busy. I did my usual weekday cleaning of dusting vacunming and washing some of the floors. I did clean out my wardrobe and some drawers and put away summer stuff i am keeping and any other stuff for charity. I put away sandels and flipflps away and i have knee high boots 2 ankle boots and 3 pairs of shoes more suitable for colder weather. I have 2 pairs of trainers and walking boots i kinda use all year round so i store foot wear on a shoe rack at the bottom of my wardrobe and the summer ones will go in a box under my bed. Have most of my clothing sorted just the hot press to go through next and i think i am done clothes wise. I am trying not to buy anything or very little just wear what i have. My social life was not great before the pandemic or what ever its really know as its almost zero now lol. but in fairness some of the meetup groups are still able to organise walks and some outdoor stuff with guidlines and hopefully we be able to do some indoor stuff when the 4 week phase 3 is lifted or may be not we just don't know here. Been busy again cleaning out my kitchen cupboards and more stuff for chartity shops. Old mugs drinking glasses and a few other kitchen things i don't need or use. Gives me more space and less clutter. Have to sweep up leaves from my steps outside , around the courtyard and the storage space where i keep my bike so later i will make a start on that. Feeling tired awake since 6am but could not get back asleep so got up and had coffee then breakfast and got on with stuff. Needed to be done and so good to make a start. Ok have a terrific Tuesday in your part of the world.

                    Hi, All:

Narilly - thoughts are just thoughts. You're not going to drink because you don't drink. But I agree, it is good to stay vigilant and honest!

Wags - is your stuff all donate-able? Do they come sell it or just dump it? I need to start clearing some clutter - I'm just not very good at it. If someone would just come in for me and I wouldn't have to look at it, I'd never miss it. But when I go one by one... I especially have a hard time getting rid of books. Even though there is a low chance I will read any of them again. For the last few years I quit buying books and I borrow them through my Kindle from the library, so many of the ones I have are old, yellowing paperbacks, and there is little chance that even if I did read that book again that I would read that copy. Sigh. I'll get to it one day...

Anjicia - sounds like you have a good system. I'm not that organized, although I tried to be once. I do have an empty box for shoes under my bed...

                    Hi Lav - happy gardening.

                    Stay sober folks.

                      Re: Newbies Nest

Pav, I had to laugh, years ago, I was buying books to read and agonized over getting rid of them and NEVER reread them. I thought, there should be a place where you could just borrow books and read them and take them back when you’re done. BAH! Times like that, I’m glad no one could hear my thoughts!
Nari, none among us have not thought ‘wouldn’t it be nice...’ but as we know, every thought doesn’t require follow thru!
Lav, as I was trying to moderate, I bought some non al hook wine. I knew I had a problem when my basic instinct was to chug it. That was the day I knew I couldn’t moderate. I called a friend of mine from work who was an AA’er. She wanted me to go to a meeting that night. Instead, I turned to the internet and found MWO. She is still convinced that AA is the only way, but I say if something works, stick with it!
Wags, 25 boxes? 25 boxes? Holy moly! That sounds painful! Good for you. In all this time, the only thing I ever regret giving away was a red dress I had. Mind you, it was a 1980’s dress with huge shoulder pads and was like something Murphy Brown might have worn. Im sure I gave it up for a reason (most likely, it shrank (ha)). Otherwise, I’ve really never regretted donating stuff. I should dig deeper.
Anj and 3B’s hope you are having an easy day! Hugs to all! Byrdie

Murphy Brown, that is funny Byrdie. You never know, it looks like the 80's are coming back. Wags, you are a donating machine. I need to kick it up a notch on the donating thing.

Moderate? What is that? If you are posting here moderation is just a dream.

Right Pav, I don't drink and that is the best thing ever.

I just had a memory of handing my kids a big trash bag once each year & told them to fill it with clothes, books, shoes, toys ~ whatever. I also told them if they didn’t do it then I WOULD & they’d be left with next to nothing, haha!! Whatever works, right?
I am enjoying this cooler weather after such a hot summer. Spending a little time out in the gardens each day lifts my spirit.

Anj, Pav & Byrdie, good to see you today. Hello to the rest of the group too!

Off to visit my oldest sister today. she is not far from me just a bus journey away well i get 2 to get to her house but it takes 40 50 mins depends on the traffic and the 2nd drops me very close to her house. I don't drive no car but no problem i live with good bus service and train or Dart as its known in Dublin North Wicklow both within walking distance in my town. Dart stands for Dublin area rapid transport in case anyone is interested or is thinking of visiting lol. Lots of leaves to sweep up outside and i can i understand why America calls it the fall. Is the same for Canada and Australia? Just my hot press to sort later or another day and i think for now most clutter old clothes etc are done for now. Anyway have a wonderful Wednesday whatever your plans.:checkin::kisses:

Well i just cant believe how the hours go by so quickly when daylight savings start. i do love the extra daylight even if we cant do anything. i had to click and collect potting mix today, who does that? And it will take a couple of days before i get it. But if it keeps the numbers down so be it. sigh.

Anj, i live in Australia and love our little country. I am 56 and had a moment today when i thought "shit i am nearly 60" lol, that passed though, i am lucky to above ground and healthy to enjoy what i want to do. I found a sugar addiction when i gave up drinking which is still with me. i have just started the keto diet. Boy am i loving cream in my coffee. Today i would have sold my soul for a chocolate and nearly went to the shops but am taking on what i learnt when i gave up drinking, i cant have ONE chocolate. All or nothing for me and i have so many dresses i need to fit into for summer, not that i even go to work at the moment. I am single also and have 4 children, 1 lives with me and my 2 girls moved back due to covid but 1 has now moved out. My 2 fur babies keep me sane.

Byrd i have so much stuff in the garage that i have culled but cant donate to op shops as they are closed and cant advertise for free as no one can pick up unless you are 5 kilometres away.

Wags, i do like warm but not hot hot. I am more a winter person but that gets you down when it never ends. Hope your puppy is doing well.

3B, how is it going with you? keep checking in. Where are you Dee and Belle?

Time for dinner for the fur babies and me. take care and stay safe. xx
