    Re: Newbies Nest

3Bots, I’m so glad to hear that you are thriving! You’ll find that many more things will improve, too! I’m so happy for you!
Neen, drinking dreams still get to me. They are a vivid reminder of where I don’t want to be again, so I guess they are a public service. Glad you are hanging in!
Cold and rainy here. I listed a bunch of stuff on FaceBook Marketplace. I am stunned at the number of folks who want to to deliver (like a $5 item). It’s good to clean out stuff. In a crazy way, it makes me sad to let stuff go. It’s like I worked hard for those things. Then to have people wanting you to bring it to them! I don’t know.
You all have given me confidence about going to the dentist. I appreciate that very much. I will go!
Ava, as you may recall, I often had to make presentations and always hated it. My best advice is practice, practice, practice. Thinking it to yourself is not the same! You will do great! You can practice on us!
It’s been a year since I quit that job. What a year it’s been. Who could have guessed?
    Happy Sunday, all. Hugs, Byrdie

Lav - that's great your g'son doesn't mind the meds, and if they help him that's a pretty good indication that he really needs them, so it sounds like a win-win!

Byrdie - I hope the dentist does a fantastic job and all goes smoothly for you. Wow, a year since you quit! What a long strange year it's been...

3BoW - congrats on the major turn-around you've accomplished, and especially on the decision to not just go back to your old ways after completing 30 days. Onward!

I'm exhausted. I taught for 5 hours today, which is a very full day for work that is incredibly brain-taxing. I'm gonna zone out on netflix for a bit and then turn in early. Has anyone seen anything particularly good lately? I know I won't see your suggestions right now but I'll tuck them away for future reference. I just finished watching the released episodes of Lupin (in French with subtitles). It was pretty good but they left at a major cliff-hanger so now we have to wait for the rest of the episodes this summer to find out what happens.

Here we go with another week everyone. Don't drink!

        Hi, All:

3BOW, great to hear from you and so glad you're feeling so healthy and happy. Keep it up!

My mom got the Moderna vaccine. I just re-read my post and I meant to say "I keep telling her she CAN'T run around hugging everyone..." Sheesh. She just kept saying, "I'm so relieved." She's 81 and has some heart issues. All she wants to do is go to a restaurant with her friends, and play bridge. Shouldn't be too long for her now as she and her friends will all be vaccinated in this round.

Mr. G that sounds interesting. Sometimes accountability is good for me - it gets me to do things that I put off. Is it like real estate investing with your money? Sounds interesting.

Lav so nice you get to be with your grandkids.

Wags, I was going to suggest Lupin. We really liked it, but now we need season 2. I also highly recommend Human Nature, a documentary about immune systems and CRISPR. Fascinating and frightening. My husband is really liking Small Axe (I got to bed...) which has gotten a lot of acclaim - about the West Indian community in Britain.

        Happy Monday. Have great days,
        Pav

Happy Birthday, Wags. Hope you can do something a little bit special this evening.

We got just enough snow to XC ski today so that was fun. It is annoying to have the equipment and rarely get to use it. I imagine those of you on the US east coast are getting much more of the white stuff than you really want so I probably shouldn't be complaining!

Your job situation does sound tough, Neen. I'm glad for you that the end is in sight.

I'm psyching up for a new puppy early next month. Our rescue was a great dog for us but sadly, he was aggressive with what he must have seen as annoying little kids. We can't put our grandsons at risk (or have them never visit us!!) so we had to let him go back to the rescue group to be placed in an adult-focused home. It was a pretty distressing situation all around but I'm glad no one was actually hurt and that he was welcomed back by the rescue group. So, we're going back to a breed we know and that generally is fine with children, Goldens. Lesson learned but it was disappointing because I really like the idea of rescuing vs purchasing. I also like the idea of a trained 1 year old vs a PUPPY :egad:!!!

Good evening Nesters & Happy Groundhog Day eve

It’s still snowing here but we’ve had these weird periods of sleet & frozen rain as well all day. Not even sure what the total is but the news station reported 7.5” this afternoon, who knows?
I baked up a batch of cinnamon rolls to share with our neighbor who plowed the driveway for us. They are low sugar (until you put the icing on) & vegan because I used my non-dairy substitutes, pretty tasty.
Local schools will be closed again tomorrow, lucky parents.

Wags, wishing you a very Happy Birthday!!!!
I hope your day was a good one.

NS, I’ve had two Goldens over the years & they are the absolute best with kids! We bred our female & she had 12 puppies, OMG!!!! They were gorgeous! Sorry your other pup didn’t work out, sad but it happens. The trick with big dogs like Goldens is don’t paper train them, take them outside frequently & reward them generously, haha! Good luck!

Hello to all & wishing everyone a safe night in the nest!

                    Evening,

I had a crappy day. When I say crappy, it usually means I’m struggling with this sober thing. It’s not just a thing, though. Agitated, angry, and anxious.

Brydy, my husband is the one to drive and meet someone for five bucs. No lie.

Wags, brigerton on Netflix. Loved it. Glad I saw it all while sober. Rewatching grace and Frankie. Love lily and Jane together.

                    NS, golden retrievers are beautiful.

                    Have a good night.

Aw shucks, thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone! It was indeed a good day, although I had to work so celebrating will be more tomorrow when I have a whole day off. I think we're going to order curbside take-out from one of my favorite mexican food restaurants. Yummmmmm I can't wait! So great to have another sober birthday, to know I'll remember it tomorrow, I won't wake up with a hangover, etc etc.

Thanks also for the Netflix suggestions - I will check all of those out. Keep 'em coming! Also open to ideas on Hulu and/or Prime.

I hope everyone getting hit by the big storm in the eastern U.S. is safe and sound. Stay off the roads if you can. Hunker down, build snow people, whatever keeps you warm and happy. Aren't you glad you didn't have to head out and stock up on booze before the snow arrived?!

Take care everyone and Happy February!

                        Evening nesters

Happy birthday Wags, i hope your day was wonderful

Work is a madhouse, how can a hospital be full with no covid around but it is. had to put a patient in a motel today though i am sure it is cheaper than the hospital and nicer food. I have not had time to do anything for my talk tomorrow, it is an introduction so they just can put a face to the name and since they have been emailing me all day i am sure they know what i do.

Looks pretty cold over in the USA, seen the snow on the news which is much nicer than the old president and his antics. Not as much muting as before.

I am currently watching shameless and quite enjoying it. Frank reminds me of all the blackouts i used to have!

NS i hope your new puppy gives you as much love as my carly gives me. puppies are hard though but now he is passed out on my bed, taking up all of the room and is happily adjusted at 2years. I still miss my maddison though and its 2 years in March.

                        take care xx

                          Hi, All:

Wags! Happy Birthday! I wish I could come hike to a waterfall and eat Mexican food with you to celebrate. Another sober birthday - aren't they the best? Enjoy your day off today.

Neen - Conjure that feeling you had when you came here. Think about your worst day drunk. Hopefully that will remind your body why it really, really doesn't want the alcohol. Another day sober, another sober muscle flexed. Accept where you are and relax into the freedom it is. Thank goodness we don't have to drink again.

Cinnamon buns sounds great, and I'm glad to know neighbors still help neighbors out with snowy driveways. I hope you all on the east coast are staying safe. I must say it is an amazing thing to have news stories about snow... And NYC looks so beautiful - I know it is a nightmare to navigate, but wow.

Good luck with your talk, Ava. I am sure you'll be fine. Unlike Lav, I'd rather speak to a room full of people than a small, intimate group. I feel like it is easier to sort of "rise above" a big crowd. Seems like you know what to say, though. Can't believe you have no Covid. Still crazy terrible here.

Not much to report here. Fighting with the adult child who is home when he should probably be somewhere else. Trying to relax out of co-dependency, but I am worried about him. He's such a great person, and I think he'll get out of this, but he sure is fighting against us at the moment. Sigh.

I'm sure I missed some people, but happy SOBER Tuesday all around.

                              Good evening Nesters,

The storm(s) have finally moved out but we’re still getting snow flurries, haha! I just read that we will be having another similar storm the coming Sunday & Monday, oh boy!
I did get some shoveling done so the dog can get out easily. Guess I’ll try to clear a path for the chickens tomorrow so they can get out a bit too. So far they haven’t murdered each other, Lol

Neen, I spent a lot of time & effort redirecting my thoughts when I first quit. I was determined to remain AF no matter what. What can you do to get your mind to a quieter space? I used to go out & walk around our big property until I calmed down, I learned how to center myself taking 3 long, slow deep breaths - works like a charm. Guided meditations are a bonus, still use them.

Wags, a two day birthday celebration sounds nice, take out food & all

Ava, are you seeing any flu cases over there? It has practically disappeared over here, probably due to masking & hand washing. Say Hi to Carl for me & good luck with your talk to the newbies.

Pav, we had to go out to buy chicken feed today which requires a ride north to the next county. The roads were in good shape so we just enjoyed the snowy farm views in Lancaster County, very pretty.
Adult children at home is not easy, been there & done that. My daughter made a few returns home until she got married. My son left once & was gone, haha!!

Hi Julia, good to see you.

Hello to all& wishing everyone a safe night in the nest!

                                Afternoon nesters

Lav, we had very few cases of the flu last winter, was all covid. my mum who was always sick with chest infections the year before had the best chest ever last winter as she had to stay home and order food online etc. i told her to do that this year. i am trying to get her down for a visit but she is getting a sewing room added and cant possibly be away for that. Her choice i say.

Neen, when i was first sober, i hibernated for 3 months and all i thought about was my friend al and how could i possibly have lost my bf. in 3 months those thoughts started to go and i knew i was winning against al. 7 years later i did my talk today without a valium and with confidence. Being sober just keeps on giving but giving up is not for sissies, it was one of the hardest things i have ever done. I never thought i could stop and now i can never imagine drinking.

Work is still talking about me going back in two days a week, i say 1 as it will be spent socialising anyways. i keep tellin them that and they dont listen. It took me an hour to get to work today and that as leaving at 6am, it was horrendous, worse than pre covid as people arent catching public transport. I did mention i have a great array of work pjama's now.

i am going to nap. take care xx
