Let's make a list of coping strategies

Part of what I learned in my last rehab is the need for coping strategies to replace reaching for a drink. I am finally getting around to cleaning my house and came across this list which I'd like to share. I'd love you to add any of your own. Here are some of mine:

    Flylady - make lists
    Walk dogs
    Garden
    Lay down
    Bookstore
    Starbucks or coffee shop
    Cookbooks or cook something
    Guided imagery CD
    Walk
    Admire nature
    Go to meeting
    Go on MWO
    Clean house
    Work out
    Bead
    Go to Costco
    Thrift Stores
    Sleep
    Watch TV
    Read a book
    Political Talk Radio
    Go Bowling.

I am sure you all have many more great ideas. Let's make a big list for all of us!

Thank you for sharing those AD.

I also use: Prayer, music, recovery reading/self-help books, journaling, writing a gratitude list, helping another person.

Let's make a list of coping strategies

I love the gratitude list. Keeps me from feeling sorry for myself and hosting a big ol' pity party.

Based on a suggestion here, I had to work at keeping my "list of things to do when the urges came" filled with some fun stuff in addition to chore stuff. A great opportunity to make sure you include things that help address the boredom factor.

Let's make a list of coping strategies

Simplify life so that all the above mentioned (coping techniques) which are really part of a balanced life become possible to enjoy and also become a part of the fabric of your life. I want to learn to live sober & include all of these enjoyable parts of life as well as develop new skills and habits that will lead to a better life. Personally the best coping skill I now possess is exercise, nothing even comes close for me. Here's to life!!!
