Misinformation about baclofen on reddit
Holy cow. I joined a bunch of subreddits about alcoholism today. I can’t believe the misinformation about baclofen that are in the top threads on the baclofen for alcoholism subreddit. I’m not suggesting there’s a pill to cure, or that sobriety is easy. But off, I feel like there are people who would be helped and am horrified by the lack of support there. Thank all that matters for MWO and the people who keep this place free from trolls. -
Re: Misinformation about baclofen on reddit
I have noticed that as well. Former MWO'er neophyte started the Baclofen for Alcoholism sub but doesn't do anything there anymore. There are SO many threads on there claiming that baclofen is addictive! I have tried to fight back against that notion so many times. People think that because you can suffer withdrawals upon sudden cessation, it means it's addictive which is ridiculous. That would be like calling antidepressants addictive.

Re: Misinformation about baclofen on reddit
I KNOW! There was one thread I read where the guy is clearly taking…some stuff…he won’t specify, but includes benzos and who the hell else knows. The person who was trying to explain that 1. His problem might not be baclofen and 2. That baclofen isn’t addictive was just shut down by his ignorance. It was crazy-making. Someone even suggested he start using phenibut to get off of baclofen. Can you imagine? So messed up.Originally posted by _serenity_ View Post. People think that because you can suffer withdrawals upon sudden cessation, it means it's addictive which is ridiculous. I didn’t want my first posts using my name from here to be negative, so I didn’t post anything. And the threads are ooooold. But I think I will reach out to whoever is moderating and see if they’ll remove the most egregious stupidity.
interestingly, the medications for alcoholism subreddit is mostly TSM, or naltrexone/vivitrol. But there is actual legit info about baclofen on there. How ironic.
Btw, almost everyone I know from treatment got a vivitrol shot, which costs $$$$, every month. And they have all “relapsed”. Some for just a night, or even a single drink, which I hardly consider a relapse, but they do and that’s the bottom line. What a conundrum we face when treating this disease.

Re: Misinformation about baclofen on reddit
OMG the "baclofen is addictive" guys are all about using phenibut and gabapentin in HUGE doses. Then they use baclofen to withdraw from those, and blame baclofen when they continue to suffer withdrawals. One guy told me that he "almost died" from "baclofen addiction" and tried to shame me for promoting it!

Re: Misinformation about baclofen on reddit
I know it’s been a decade since I’ve religiously read the research, but since baclofen has been safely used (and in high doses) for decades, aren’t we pretty sure that it’s safe? There are, from what I remember, some obvious contraindications. And if you take WAY WAY WAY TOO MUCH, you’ll stop breathing. Or take it with other things that lower your respiratory response. But, ffs, as far as psych meds go, especially ones for our tribe, it’s safe-ish. Still freaks me out to take it, to take psych meds in general, but I have no idea why. I know they work. I feel the same way about taking a statin, though, because every other person WHO IS NOT A DOCTOR will tell you they’re terrible for you.Originally posted by _serenity_ View PostOMG the " blame baclofen when they continue to suffer withdrawals. sorry for shouting. I’m a little passionate about people taking, or at least getting reliable information, about medications and (ahem) vaccinations.
can you imagine the drama if that troll guy was still here. I know he lives because, I kid you not, I got a linked in request from him this year. As if I wouldn’t wreak the vengeance of hell upon him. Oh wait, that happened. Ha. Hahahahaha
I don’t know what happened to the capitalization, but I’m not fixing it. It’s still readable. XoLast edited by Ne/Neva Eva; November 21, 2022, 04:30 PM.

Re: Misinformation about baclofen on reddit
Morning ladies,
Have you noticed who is listed in the "Other useful links" area on that site :egad:. I must confess, I never got reddit, some people complain forums such as this style, xenforo et al are difficult to use but for me they are a doddle compared to reddit - Must be an age and senility thang!Originally posted by _serenity_ View PostI have noticed that as well. HA! My favourite was the person who decided that in order to avoid side effects they would skip some doses and was amazed when this did not have the desired results....Originally posted by _serenity_ View PostThere are SO many threads on there claiming that baclofen is addictive! Maybe he wanted to know if you had any asbestos you needed clearing away by a drunken abatement engineer!Originally posted by Ne/Neva Eva View Post

Ne, I am now off to read your other epics. God I have missed your posts xx.

Re: Misinformation about baclofen on reddit
It's crazy how much the medical community pushes natrexone. And while I understand that it could be useful for some, I don't know how many times I explaiined to my GP that it wouldn't help with physical withdrawal symptoms (only make them worse if anything) and that's the problem I was trying to address... yet he still kept suggesting it. Same with a so called "additions specialist". No one had even heard of baclofen.interestingly, the medications for alcoholism subreddit is mostly TSM, or naltrexone/vivitrol.Last edited by Mulburry; November 23, 2022, 10:23 PM.

Re: Misinformation about baclofen on reddit
I have not, so please elucidate or I'll have to look it up myself which would be a PITA, but I will if needs be and you can remind me to do my own homework, because I will. lolOriginally posted by Baclofenman View Post...

What a treat to see your words.
Back in the day I LOOOOVED reddit way too much. You could find anything on there. Except, you could find anything on there. It's now horrifying, and without a backbone of content of users who love information. Kind of like Wikipedia but exactly the opposite. Neophyte was smart to start there, and I thought he was on the right track. WTH happened?Originally posted by Baclofenman View PostI must confess, I never got reddit, some people complain forums such as this style, xenforo et al are difficult to use but for me they are a doddle compared to reddit - Must be an age and senility thang!

I can't imagine who you are referring to, or why you would refer to it here. Because despite the fact that anyone like that was around for a minute, that engineer was out engineered and completely abated. Unlike any asbestos that person might work on. And yet...The toxicity went on for so long we all got sick. But bless his tiny little black heart. Polite people in the southern US say something akin to that when they're being particularly demeaning. They just say it nicer. I hope he's sucking on an asbestos straw.Originally posted by Baclofenman View Postasbestos you needed clearing away by a drunken abatement engineer!
Missed you, too, my brother.Originally posted by Baclofenman View PostNe, I am now off to read your other epics. God I have missed your posts xx.
