    Liver Pain?

I was just wondering if anyone has ever had this. On the upper right quadrant of my torso, I'm experiencing a dull ache close to my lower ribcage. It isn't painful by any means, but being that this is the location of my liver, it has made me more cognizant of it than I normally would be of a pain of this calibre. I attempted to feel if my liver is enlarged by gently prodding under my right ribcage, and it doesn't feel enlarged (although not being a doctor, what do I know?), BUT almost immediately after this I felt some mild residual pain behind my upper right ribcage in general. I don't mean to sound like a hypochondriac. I just have no idea how bad the upper right abdmonimal pain (which some people here have mentioned as symptoms) is supposed to be. Basically, I describe it as a dull ache that is not really painful, although it doesn't seem normal. Other than that, I have no other symptoms of liver disease (which I know doesn't give me a clean bill of health). Any related experience on this would be appreciated.

      Liver Pain?

I had liver pain and asked my holistic Doctor what to do...he said to gently massage it and take LIV 52 supplements (health food stores or Ebay has them). No more PAIN and I feel so much more energy now...No more Yellow, floating poo...either.

        Liver Pain?

I went to my Dr. when I had pain in the same area. I was diagnosed with a fatty liver, and my liver enzymes were higher than they should be. The diagnosis was made after an ultrasound of the abdomen and blood work. I am not a Dr. so I don't know what your pain is from, you need to be diagnosed by your physician. I will say that the pain I had was in the same area. The pain went away after I was AF for 30 days or so and taking supplements such as Milk Thistle to help repair the damage from the alcohol. After 30 days my liver enzymes were lower but still higher than what is considered normal.

Cyclefan, did they ultrasound you after your liver panel came back or before? Just curious if you don't mind.
I have bloodwork appt. in two weeks....am kind of anxious about it. But hopefully, I'll be AF two weeks by then.....
I've experienced a dull ache in same area after days of binging....it always scared me straight...for a day or two....not nearly long enough.

            Liver Pain?

I have been battling the same pain for quite some time now. When I am AF and eat right, it goes away. When I was drinking heavily, I was too dunk to know/care. Now it really bothers me because when I do have the occasional couple drinks, I can immediately feel it and it lasts a day or two.

I need to make an appointment with the doc to see where I stand. Hopefully the results will relive some stress/anxiety.

              Liver Pain?

USMgirl, I had the ultrasound and blood draw the same day, results of both came back and were reported to me at the same time by my Dr. I continued to drink for another three to four weeks because I had some business travel scheduled and was not prepared to commit to the 30 day AF until I was done traveling and entertaining clients. I am now around 45 or 50 days AF, somewhere in there and will go back to the Dr. for another blood draw in early Feb.

                Thanks for that cyclefan!
I'm sure you'll be really surprised with how well things are when you go back after so long AF....our bodies really are amazing in how they start healing themselves so fast after we've abused them for so long...
                Good luck!

                  Liver Pain?

                  Hi Guys,
I have had the same thing, especially if I bent over to pick something up off the floor I would get a sharp twinge. I would imagine my liver is not the healthiest in the world.

                    Liver Pain?

After my last binge before the middle of December, I had the same thing. I had the most discomfort in the liver area.

                    It scared me sober.

I had a panel done in May when I had a complete physical and everything came out fine. No elevated liver enzymes, nothing.

This time around however it was enough to scare me straight. I feel like I may have caused some damage as I never had that feeling before.

I am done with the poison. Oh, yes I am. Thank goodness the pain is gone, but man, oh man.... enough is enough!

                      Liver Pain?

Hi all - I have the exact same pain as you have described, especially when bending over, which is also not helped by the fact that I have piled on the pounds and bending over is getting more and more difficult anyway! Okay, so as from today, enough!! We all know what is causing this pain and I know I must kick this to the kerb once and for all. I know I've talked the talk before but this time I need to walk the walk (I think?!!) Accountable - I like that "I am done with the poison" - can I be "done" with you? I seem to have been on this forum forever and still here I am at the same spot - but at least I am still in the battle - but this time I WILL WIN - haaaa, haa!!!!
                      Kind wishes

                        Liver Pain?

                        5thaday,

Yep. Pain in liver area which I absolutely know is from drinking.

If you would like some encouragement to quit drinking, last year my daughter was drinking heavily. She had liver pain, her hair started falling out on her head and her arms. She was brusing. She was in excruciating pain abdominally all the time and could seldom keep food down. She lost 30 lbs.

The doctors did ultrasounds and bloodword and told her she was destroying her liver and had liver disease.

She quit drinking - had a couple of binges but for the most part quit - then things started getting better. Her hair came back, her skin cleared up, she started being able to eat again.

She is now pregnant and healthy as a race horse.

She won't drink now because she is pregnant and would not want to hurt her baby but she is so grateful that she was not still drinking when she got pregnant.

It is hard, I know, to quit but it is doable. My daughter is a great example of how well we can recover IF WE QUIT.

                        Love,
                        Cindi

                            Liver Pain?

I have also experienced an "ache" in that area. I wouldn't necessarily call it pain but more of a dull ache. I too have tried the massage etc to see if I could feel if it is enlarged. Obviously with all the responses I guess we know what the answer is, even if we are not doctors. Fatty liver is the obvious culprit but I think maybe we should all get in for some blood work. If this doesn't scare us I'm not sure what will.......

                            Thanks for starting this thread.

                              Liver Pain?

i have this as well, especially the day after i drink heavily (i drink wine...lots and lots of wine!). i have never told my dr. how much i drink, but am going to be totally honest this time and request a liver and kidney panel. i also know that we can recover liver health by stopping drinking immediately (easier said than done, i know!) and using supplements like milk thistle tea. i've read that there are alot of foods that help to support liver health as well. can't hurt!
in the past, when i stopped drinking for weeks or even months (once!), the pain went away and i felt better than i had in quite some time. it's just not worth the aches and pains anymore!
