Strong Urge Cravings....trying to hold out.

My husband and I just got into an argument and it makes me want to reach for a drink. Very strong urges. I'm trying to wait out this impulse. Can't I make it to 48 hours??? I know I should go pour the wine out, but not sure if I could resist not having a sip.

    Pour it out.

Do something to distract yourself, drink plenty of other fluids. Eat something. You CAN do it.

Thanks, Bets. I made it. I'm going to post this and then go to bed and do some of my habit breaking workbook. I can see that the part about urges coming & going does work. I have to learn not to give into that first impulse. I'll go to bed and tomorrow will be day 3. I have a 21 day goal. This weekend will be hard. We are going on vacation and DH's family who are drinkers will be here. I plan on spending a lot of time in here.

Good quote, UKblonde. I will have to remember it also. Anything that does not kill me will only make me stronger.

I hope you've thrown that wine down the toilet. Cause that's where it belongs. Well done on makin it through the craving. Now pour that wine down the toilet. Right now.

If you don't want to risk the smell give it to a friend and tell them to take it far away.

Good for you pushing through the urge XWino. I found that I had to completely re-wire the way I deal with things. I too would drink as a response to very common life problems such as fight with husband, bad day at work, broke a fingernail, etc. Once you get past the worst of the urges then the REAL work will begin developing new coping mechanisms. It is so worth it!!!

POUR OUT THE WINE. When I first quit drinking I made it 60 days but for some really stupid reason, left a bottle of vodka in the house. I ended up drinking it. That kicked off another 8 months of complete misery struggling and failing to get back on the wagon. Don't invite that kind of trouble when you don't have to.
