    Long Term Moderation Contest

    Sunbeam,
    I don't know...
I guess by the same token there's a lot of folks that are abstinate that also use meds & supps. Maybe it's once we reach a point with an addictive personality "type".. we all just need whatever help we need...
whatever works for each of us...
All I know is, I've been thru in-patient treatment 2 times. Very expensive, and didn't do a whole lot for me. I did meet some nice folks... but in the day to day living in reality... MWO is working!
It is something I can live with.

But everything combined is very important especially when just starting to "clean up" after a long time of abusing your body...

For me, exercise is key. Probably more important than the supps or meds.
If you feel good from the inside, to start with... well, it carries over to all aspects of your life...

      Long Term Moderation Contest

I think the supplements might be important in terms of repairing our bodies and helping with cravings. I have read many posts to that effect and the book talks a lot about it. But in the end, the real measure to me is whether someone can achieve their goal, whether it is to moderate or abstain, not whether they use an aid to achieve it. I have been here a while and only just ordered the starter pack. If it helps me get where I want to go I will be happy. I think we have to realize that everyone's path and methods will not be the same, but that doesn't take away from their results.

I agree, people should be able to do whatever they want to do to reach the goals they set for themselves.

I agree Ducky & Sunbeam..what works for one won't always work for all. I am confused here on some of the posts as far as drinking at home. First of all no one is keeping anyone in check while you are out in the bars drinking up a storm. 2nd is I choose now to have my cocktails at home because 1st I am not driving drunk, Haven't in 10 years! 2nd is I am a smoker and when that choice was removed I choose to never go into a bar again. 3rd if I want to go out to a casino where I still pay for my right to smoke I get a room. 4th if by chance a friend wants to go to one of the clubs where I can smoke I take a cab to and from.
Are you staying off the roads when you go to the bars? There are 2 kinda of bars: one you drink in and the other you sit behind. End of story......

            Long Term Moderation Contest

I have been modding for 6 weeks now - one glass of wine a night (had two nights where I had two glasses). This month the plan is to go Sundays AF, which will be a first for me as i used to be a 2 ltr a night girl.

I think i'm in a different age group cause all my friend seem to be stepping up their level of drinking and I am a total out cast at the moment... which is fine by me.

Oh and I am on suppliments and meds (Topa), up to 150mg but don't think I'm going to up the dosage any more than that and I have also taken it alot slower than the book suggested although I haven't had any side effects except tingling toes and lack of culinary skills!!

                  Long Term Moderation Contest

The longest for me moderating was from Memorial Day weekend a few years ago until Valentine's Day the next year. Having gotten through New Year's Eve OK you wouldn't think I'd slip up on this holiday!

For some reason I got it into my head that I shouldn't have to measure and count - JUST for this one day. I'm sure you know how well that worked out for me.

Why doesn't moderation count if you're taking supplements? I'll probably be taking supplements of some kind (vitamins, minerals, amino acids) for the rest of my life, and I intend to be drinking moderately for the rest of my life too.

If you were taking meds and/or supplements, people would need to report quantities, in order to be fair. Maybe also their weight, to figure that in... It just gets too complicated. But maybe someone could start a separate contest, with different rules.

                          Long Term Moderation Contest

                          Sunbeam,
Great minds think alike. Just found this post tonight and I too want to moderate without topa.
I started moderating 1 1/2 years ago but quit coming to the site and quit the drink tracker so slips happened but I wasn't really working the program.

I am new to moderating again with intentions of coming here often and posting on the drinktracker. I have to say it has really helped me since I started again on September 2, 08. I am going to be severely honest about this. 5oz is 1 drink. I was counting a bottle of wine (before) as 3 1/2 glasses because I was filling the glasses as high as they would go. But I read that 5 oz is considered a glass so I'm going to be firm about how I'm counting. I am also going to track my drinks again and show my progress to the board as I don't want to hide what I'm doing like I would do when I hid drinking from my family. Just found an empty bottle I had stashed away! Awful!!

Went out last night and paying attention to the fact that I didn't want to track more than 2 helped me sip slow, savor it and delight in the fact that I was able to mark only 2 drinks when I got home. AF tonight and on a Saturday that's almost a miracle.

I've devised a new acronym...M.A.D...moderating as desired. That's my new motto and my new goal.
We'll see how it goes but the board certainly helps me be more accountable.

Hi Sun..........been moderating since Sept. of '08 and the longest time AF is current at 31 days.
Take L-glut as one of the multitude of vits I take daily- I've always take aminos. Tried Kudzu early on but didn't notice any change with it.
