Was craving a drink tonight - realized I was just really thirsty. I saw a thread under General Discussion about the things around the house that we don't do, or fix, or organize or whatever because our drink gets in the way. I still have so much around that needs attention. A drawer full of filing, piles of clothes that need to be donated, tossed or put away for the season, cupboards and drawers that need cleaning and sorting, etc., etc. Plus all the thinks I said I wanted to do - knit; read more; yoga; etc. Hmmm, first, I didn't do stuff because I was drinking, then I would drink so I wouldn't think about all the things that needed to be done, and now I'm thinking about not drinking and still not doing anything. I actually started my Christmas card list so that is a start . . . Is it just me?

      Howdy, everybody!
We are enjoying a return of some moderate temps... must be all the way up to about 12 degrees this morning. Yesterday it was warm enough for about 6 inches of snow to fall, and it looks simply beautiful outside. Our little black scottie dog just adores running through the snow - and she comes in looking as if she was made of white pompoms, completely covered.

Hmmm... seems I don't really have much to talk about this week. Had a really great meeting with my Writers' Group yesterday. It is such a good motivator to have other like-minded folks who are good writers to encourage me. And we always leave there saying that it is our cheap therapy group... better than a shrink. My knitting is going well, but I have to get up in the wee hours to work on my husband's presents, since he is home now. Good thing I am an early riser naturally.

Oh, yes... I told you we were remodeling our basement. Now it is finished! Hurray! All I have to do is put my craft stuff into my little drawers, and find some pretty (and cheap) throw rugs, and we are done! Considering that when we moved into this house we couldn't even hardly walk INto the basement, I feel we have gotten a lot done. Yay!

Hugs to everyone. Thanks for being here. You are my support, and I consider each of you "friend".

Strong, I know what you mean....I've been staying home a lot, saying I'm going to write and do all these other things, XMAS decorations, etc. and I end up laying on the couch watching TV..maybe it's the weather...it's cold here now in NYC

NNG, I used to have Scotties as a kid...one, the male, was very...dainty ...the female was more wild, she would run around in anything and everything...she loved the snow...she would jump around in it, even throw herself into it, like head down and would twist herself and push herself forward, with her back rubbing in the snow...that was a weird dog, but she was funny.

        Anyway...

I'm going to NYC for the weekend. It is just as cold in Chicago, so I'll bring the down coat and full regalia.

NNG, sounds like you are accomplishing a lot. What are you knitting for dh?

Stewart's i picture Manhattan to be very pretty this time of year, the horse drawn carriages, Rockefeller Center, etc. staying home isn't bad. Are you still feeling the letdown after the marathon?

ISIC, safe travels. Have a good time!

Ooohh! I MUCH prefer Stewarts' name for I am Strong... I started calling her ISIC because that is what the other boards call her. But I think we all should call her STRONG. Yep. That is a good one. Good for you, Stewarts! By the way, Stewarts, your description of your female scottie made me smile. Just like our little girl! She's a terror.

Stewarts, my friend, I think you should allow yourself some time to rest and heal from your unpleasant event, and from the marathon as well. Don't feel badly about staying home on the couch, revel in it! Enjoy the beauty of the season quietly, pull in and do some hibernating. This is the perfect time of year for just staying low and quiet. It is a good thing to do once in awhile, to give ourselves a rest.

But I have to say that I am totally jealous that both Stewarts and Strong are going to be in Manhattan this weekend. Dang it, I want to come, too! I have been there several times during the Christmas season, and I adore it.

TMH, I wanted to tell you that I am thrilled about your blood test. You are a healthy, very active athlete, and it is marvelous to have you for a role model. (And since you asked, I am making a pair of felted clog slippers and a scarf for my guy. The slippers are the hard part.)

Emmy, I love thinking about you down under in the warm and sun. Love hearing about your summer parties and all your beautiful sewing. Ahh....

Hey, my dear Crocus, where the heck are you? We miss your gentle posts.

              Eve? Are you home yet?

Lasha? I know you said you were traveling north, but I thought you might still be in contact.

it's freezing in NYC right now. I actually work by Rockefeller Center, on the West Side, on Sixth Avenue and heading east, towards the Rock Center "proper" for lack of a better word is a nightmare! There's way too many people...it's tough to navigate. I had to go to a holiday party at the Sea Grill (down by where the ice rink is) and it took me 20 minutes to navigate through that...

Speaking of Rock Center....I was at another event there last night. .... for a client of mine.... I actually decided to have a few beers, I was doing an experiment. I didn't stay long and went home...3 beers. it was cold last night as well, and I had to pee really bad...so I stopped in a bar, and felt bad so I ordered another beer...just one. I warmed up...drank that one...slowly...I had no desire to go outside too quickly...I went straight home after that one...I had no desire for another one... it was still early...I watched a little TV and went to bed.

I woke up for work this morning and felt kind of strange...hard to explain... not sure if it was the AL, what very little I had, or the weather, but I almost did not want to wake up....hard to explain...felt very melancholic....it went away quite fast after a shower and getting ready...but I don't know...that was WEIRD!

I anticipate it will be very cold in NYC this weekend. I actually have a lot work I could be doing...perhaps I'll bring it home for the weekend...

                best.

Hmmmm... I can just picture the crowds at Rock Center right now. I do feel for you, Stewarts, having to navigate through that every day. For someone who is only there for the day, it is fun and exciting, but I know that it must be difficult to live in.

Okay. I just did my DrinkTracker thing for the day. I go back and forth on whether or not to keep on doing it. I have continued, as I think it helps keep me honest, but then again I am just not sure if I want to do it anymore. (Note: NOT whether or not to moderate, rather whether or not to use DrinkTracker.) Anyone have any comments?

I never use the drink tracker, for what it's worth.

I did a workout yesterday and went to the bar afterwards and had no AL...just cranberry and club soda, one and then I went home. I woke up today feeling the same way as I did the other day after a few beers...so, it's most likely the weather and not that little bit of AL I consumed the other day...

Anyway, if you're heading hear this weekend, I think it's snowing tomorrow.

Happy Friday, Everyone...especially to Stewarts. I agree with NN...hunker down and watch some great old, inspiring Christmas movie. I am wearing my BEDFORD FALLS sweatshirt, and I HOPE you guys know instantly that it is from IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE with Jimmy Stewart, Stewarts. They lived in Bedford Falls. I can't cope with how many people have never heard of it!

I had extensive gum surgery this week, and am still all drugged up, so have slept a lot and didn't post. No drinking, though, so that much is a good thing.

I don't like the drink tracker either because it makes me feel worthless, and like quitting if I mess up.

Love you all for being out there living life with me. Merry Christmas!!!! Or whatever else you celebrate...I wish you merriment and joy!

These words are blurring, better go have my tea and tasteless gruel now. Off the pills by Tues. Stitches out on Wed.

Hey there, I've been so busy with work & Christmas preparations (socialising), haven't had time to post. Hearing about the cold on your side of the world makes things feel truly Xmassy! I am from England originally, a very pale redhead, the sun & heat here don't agree with me at all. It's going to be 39 degrees celcius on Thursday. My partners kids are arriving from Berlin on Monday, we're so excited. They haven't been to Australia in Summer since they were babies! I'm off to buy them sunglasses & sunscreen lotion this morning.
This is the week for all the dreaded parties for me. I have two parties today, had one yesterday and am meeting friends for a band gig on Sunday. Costume friends Tuesday, yoga friends Monday etc, etc, etc...
I drank 5 glasses of sparkling Shiraz at the party yesterday but no more when I got home. Ordered Indian delivery, drank tonic and went to bed early. Which is how I managed to get up so early in good spirits to boot!
NNG The Ashes is a cricket test (series of games) between England and Australia. At the first game...many, many years ago, they burned the bails and the ashes went to the winner. Bails are the little sticks of wood that sit on the stumps. Stumps are the sticks that they stick in the ground and the batsman plays the ball in front of them. If it hits the stumps he's out and you can tell it's hit the stumps cos the bails fall off...yawn, I find it very, very boring.
Bye for now my friends, I'm cleaning my filthy flat this weekend in prep for the kids arrival and shopping for some good healthy food for them!
                        Have a great weekend,
                        X

                          Hey, all!
Emmy, thanks for filling me in on Ashes. I have watched a bit of cricket on shows like Downton Abbey, etc, and just don't GET it. It seems to go on forever, even longer than baseball which is - as my New Yorker husband would say - "fo geddaboud it". Good luck with your parties and with the "kids" coming in from Berlin. Such fun!

MY DEAR CROCUS! Thank you for checking in and letting us know how you are doing. Whew! Surgery? Yuck. I hope you heal well and quickly and all. I also love "It's a Beautiful Life". I often think how each of us affects the lives of others without us even knowing that we do. I will have to watch this beautiful movie again this year, and think of you while I do.

Our own favorite holiday movie is "The Bishop's Wife". If you haven't seen it and like old black and whites, it is definitely a good one. There is a funny part in it that anyone here will get a kick out of... one of the things the angel makes happen is he gives the old professor a bottle of cognac that never goes down in volume and never makes the drinker tipsy but gives the warm glow. Uh huh! Ah, well. It is a fantasy.

Happy Saturday. Was awake a lot last night. Thinking I feel a bit sick of drinking. Last night I had one and said it just doesn't taste good. We had dinner, dh had a beer with the chili and he said maybe a glass of wine would be better now. Stupidly, tried it. Couple sips, poured down the drain this a.m. A good thing?

Crocus, you've been missed! Hope your mouth heals quickly! Ouch!

Em, you have a wonderful social life. Enjoy!

NNG, yep funny about that fantasy. Can you believe I'm leaning toward an AF January? Had a friend who took every January off just to make sure he could do it.

Doubt there are any tv golf fans here but..... We are going to the Greg Norman Shark Shootout today. What's fun is we go, then it's delayed tv so we come home & watch to see if we were ever in the camera line. Lots of big names there, and it is small enough that we can follow along & see players close up. Forecast is for low 80's. Perfect.

EL and NNG - I just don't get cricket, either, but my son-in-law did it professionally, so I try to cope. Going to Oz at the end of the month - the "winter" climate there doesn't suit me but, need to meet my new granddaughter!!!
TMH-sorry to miss Greg Norman, hubby was on the East Coast and I went to meet him for the weekend. Had an absolutely fantastic time!
I also like to do an AF January-time to reflect on the upcoming year.
Glad to see that you all are so happy!

                                Hi, everyone.
I didn't log on yesterday as we spent the whole flippin' morning trying to work our way through the health care stuff. I am in favor, and think it is a good thing in the long run, but oh my heavenly days is the website messed up. Even the folks at the phone center can't work through the computer mess. Sigh. Anyway, we did get signed up, but it did take all morning, so we then went out for a lovely drive in some beautiful sunshine, which is a rarity here this time of year.

TMH and Strong, I might be willing to join you in a AF month, just not in January. Both our birthdays and also a trip to my sister in Florida would be too much temptation, I think. However, I'll be here for you both if you decide to do it, and then you can support me when I do my month. Maybe February? I always need a good clean-out in the winter.

                                Take care everyone.
