    10th September

Mae all,how are we doing?hopefully all is good with everyone. Went on the Falkirk wheel yesterday..absolutely brilliant feat of engineering. A scot by the name of Tony Gee was given the task of linking the Union and Forth and Clyde canals..a distance in height of 275ft. So he built a wheel. Initially out of lego.and it worked without going into it,it works on th Archimedes principal, but it will take a boat in a water filled pontoon up the required height and also down using no more power than it would to boil 8 kettles I took a vid of it,but can't put it on here, plus its over 6 mins long!so I'll put some pictures up. It hammered down last night, and we are due storms today. We are supposed to be walking to the Kelpies today walking for 10 miles up the canal towpath..we shall see

Don't know what is happening with the posts..forum administrator, if yo are on here, could you possibly look into it?hope everyone has a good day

        MAE ALL...

Mick...Thanks for kicking us off this morning and for explaining the Falkirk wheel. I found it very interesting. Great pics! Well it looks like your rain finally found you. I hope the storms stay away and you can get your hike to the Kelpies in. Looks like the Administrator heard you and they're looking into things.

Quiet day for me, usual Sunday chores. Will check in later to see what everyone else is up to. Have a good day all....:smile:PPQP

          Re: 10th September

          Evening greetings everyone,

We had a good bit of rain overnight so I don’t have to water anything outside, yay!
I need all the time I can get to work on crafty stuff. Today’s high temp was 77 - Fall-like, almost. The search is still on for the escaped prisoner in my county. Overnight he stole a van & drove some 20 miles north of Longwood where he’s been hiding all this time. He’s changed his appearance (shaved beard off) & changed clothes too. Someone is obviously helping this guy, likely his family in the area. We’re all still staying alert, just in case.

Mick, your HIKE of 10+ miles sounds wonderful but more than I can do these days. The pics are great & I have learned something new. Hope the rain leaves your area so you can continue with your plans.

Wags, saw your post on last week’s thread. Hope you are well.

PQ, hope you enjoyed your quiet day.

Admin, thanks for looking into the issue of missing posts we’re a happy group here & checking in daily helps us a lot

Hello to Cyn, Slo & anyone else checking in tonight.
Saying a few prayers for the poor folks in Morocco after a devastating earthquake.

          Have a nice night all!

                Hello friends,

Having a weird day here of downpours followed by sunshine, back & forth all day haha!
Taking YB back to the pain specialist in the morning, he’s had little to no relief since last week’s visit.

Mick, hope you made it to your next destination safely & found some sunshine too
Love the kelpies, great pics. Now I’m wondering if anyone has digitized them for embroidery, hmmm.

Hello to the entire gang, hope everyone is well.

Remembering the lives lost 9/11 22 years ago especially the 343 firefighters. Almost that many have died since due to exposure to the carcinogens.
Our 20 year old college student son wanted to go to NYC so badly but we managed to talk him out of going. Instead he went to some fire houses in NJ (along with his buddies) to fill in for those firefighters assisting in NYC. Something you just can’t forget.

Have a nice night all! Grateful to be sane & sober
                Lav

PS: I made the changes Admin suggested to show 100 posts/page. This should work!

                    MAE All...

Lav...I actually saw the news clip Pi was talking about where he crawled up the walls to escape. They also showed the footage of his new appearance and the van. Hope they get him soon so everyone can take a breath. I did enjoy my quiet day and surprisingly didn't feel sore but energized. Boss came into work saying never again, he was exhausted after the BBQ. He did all the heavy lifting though and assembling and taking down 2 bouncy castles. LOL And the weird weather continues. Sorry YB is still suffering, hopefully tomorrows visit will help. A private for profit preschool which has about 15 places had an E.coli breakout. Only second week of school! Friday there were 17 kids in hospital, this morning there are over 200. They figure it came from their central kitchen which supplies all the preschools.

Mick...yup, all the chores done yesterday, took my time so no stress. Sorry your weather changed for you but glad you got your hike to the kelpies in. The pictures are great, no wonder Lav's wondering about digitized photos for embroidery. Where are you off to today? Enquiring minds want to know. LOL

Shout out to the rest of the gang. Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP

                      Mae all -

I seem to be able to see all the posts - so I am glad.
                      Hello to all!
Mick those pics are fabulous - what a marvel those are. So glad the weather held so that you could get the Kelpies hike in. 10 miles sounds like a lot to me... well done, you both!

Lav, so sorry about YBs pain... that is a long time to suffer, and a long time for you to be a nurse. What a chilling story about your son... I read today about one firehouse that went to the aid of another, and all of them were lost, except one man that was called elsewhere... it's just got to be tough for any firefighter to remember today. Take care of yourself as you get all the stuff ready for your sale! Post pics of anything you don't get done... they can order from that, right? I read that the escaped convict visited his home and got clothes???? what the heck? Sounds a little like law enforcement is 2 steps behind... a dangerous criminal - I hope he gets caught soon...

Pie - sounds like things are going well for the start of fall, I hope so - did the car issue get sorted yet? That will be a happy day...

Hello to all the rest stopping by. I had a heart test to day because of my breathlessness when going up hills... didn't think anything would come of the treadmill test today, but they found an anomaly, so I'll go back next week and they do a "nuclear" stress test. I am prepared for them to find nothing more than a harmless anomaly; but this slight pressure in my chest and breathlessness is bothersome... I guess I'll find out next week if it is just one of those Covid things one has to live with. I've had 2 back-to-back days off, and will be on to TJs again tomorrow... hoping my brain will be a little fresher after this break!

I'm with you all, remembering all the lives lost and lives changed on this day in 2001... we were on our honeymoon abroad, and could only get foreign-language versions of the news... trying to get home was a mess... I wasn't sure when we would make it back - planes were taking off but then returning once they were denied entry into international space. After 5 days of sleeping in a rental car (airport was overflowing) and trying to find edible food, we finally got on a plane that took off - then did a excruciatingly long circle over the coast, then finally leveled out. We headed home, filled with gratitude that we were alive, but knowing that we were headed to a grieving country. I'm so grateful that the day is still commemorated.
                      Wishing all safety -
                      TG

Lav - I sure hope they find that escapee soon. It must be nerve-wracking just knowing what all is going on in your area. Wishing your husband all the best with tomorrow's appt. Pain is really exhausting, and I hope some relief and solutions are around the corner for him

Mick - looks like another amazing trip! I know so little about the part of the world you're traveling right now, and it's wonderful having you share pics and anecdotes.

TG - sounds like remembering Sept 11, 2001 has multiple layers of emotion for you, both in terms of the actual events (personal, national, global) but also that you went through all of that with your husband who has since passed. Sending you a big hug

I had an easy day today, just teaching one class and then working to make another dent in organizing my new office space (it's still not done but today made significant progress!). Had a weird experience yesterday: We were out walking our dog through the neighborhood, and there was some trash from a burrito stand at the edge of the sidewalk. I used to frequent that exact burrito stand when I was drinking, and I haven't been there since I quit. Seeing that trash yanked me back to those days for just a second. So much relief that I'm not still stuck in that self-destructive time.

Hellos and waves to Pie, PQ, Slo, and everyone else I missed. Hope your weeks are off to great starts!

                            Re: 10th September

                            Greetings friends,

Wouldn’t you know it but I get YB to the pain doc & they decided to skip the injection today since last week’s did nothing for relief. Now I take him back tomorrow for an epidural pain block, much more involved. We have to be out of here by 6:15 AM - geez! That’s not easy especially when I have to deal with all the animals first. Oh well, I’ll manage. I am seriously considering skipping the craft festival on the 30th, YB is scheduled for a second nerve block on the 27th. I don’t want him doing any damage to himself, it’s just not that important. I’ll look for a smaller event later on in the fall or early winter.

PQ, how about that creepy little convict crab walking up the walls of the prison yard? Unbelievable really. At least he’s moving north, away from this area of the county. We sit at the very bottom of the county, he’s not coming here. Last night he managed to steal a rifle out of the garage of a home owner right in front of the homeowner!!!! So now he’s armed, not good. Over 300 law enforcement officers are looking for him, helicopters overhead, horses & dogs sniffing him out - he will be caught.
That’s really scary about the E.coli outbreak, so harsh in little kids. I hope they all get well quickly.

Cyn, I’m so glad you’re getting a good cardiac workup. That’s something you don’t want to mess around with., good luck.
The nuclear stress test will surely highlight problematic areas. I found out I have a slight valve issue but it doesn’t cause any symptoms except a slight murmur. 9/11 brings up all kinds of memories for most of us. It must have been tough trying to get home. Take it easy at TJs.

Wags, glad you have an easy day once in a while, haha! You certainly deserve to have one.
I don’t blame you about not wanting to revisit old haunts from our drinking days. It’s all history now so let’s just leave it at that, right?

Mick, so happy you are enjoying your trip. Lots of cool things to see & do, that’s wonderful. Thanks for sharing all the pics with us
Hope your weather holds up for the rest of your trip!

Slo, babysitting today? Hope it was a good day.

Hello to Pie & everyone checking in tonight.
                            Have a nice night all!

MAE ALL...for some reason it was a really busy day. Planned on doing the minutes from our Team Meeting on Monday, got the date, time, attendees, chair done and that was it. Couldn't get back to it all day! Boss has started the one-on-one meetings again, mine is tomorrow. He met with the accountant today and apologized if I had to hear any of that. I guess they had a real blowout. Rats! Didn't hear a thing. LOL

TG...I'm glad you're getting the tests done it's always best to find out what's going on. I really hope you make another appointment with the Long Covid people. I'm glad you got a couple days break, how did it go at work today?

Wags...glad you're easing back into the teaching. The home office will get done when it get done. Sometimes it's good to be reminded what it was like, I know it always increases my gratitude.

Mick...glad the weather smartened up for you. Your morning pic is so peaceful. I'll have to google Glasgow City centre to see why it was such an "interesting" drive. LOL The site seems to be a lot more stable with posts appearing when they should. Thanks for reaching out to Admin.

Lav...how frustrating to find out they're just going to skip the injection and do the epidural pain block tomorrow. Like they couldn't have called you before you made the trip. Geeze. Yes, you will manage. I totally understand the thought of skipping the festival on the 30th, especially with the second nerve block on the 27th. You would just be too concerned about YB hurting himself. Sounds like there are lots of other craft sales to come along. Closer to Christmas the better the sales? Oh, I'm glad the creep is moving north, that's good to hear. OMG, now he's armed. How can that happen. I'm sure law enforcement is really revved up now. I feel so sorry for all those parents going through this ecoli outbreak. How could you even consider putting your kid back into daycare after that.

That's all I got for now. Shout out to the rest of the gang. Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP
