Zeppie2;1064210 wrote: hidey ho - back again - trying to make sure all I know are safe. This was a different earthquake today from the one that we had in September, news out now is that we can expect aftershocks from both earthquakes still. We were still having aftershocks from the one 6 months ago.
Most people I know are all safe, a few have had some close calls, and a lot have demolished cars and house etc. It's now just started to pour with rain I hope they have got all the homeless into decent shelters.
The aftershocks from 1999 lasted well into 2000. We were still having slight tremors more than six months later. You could only feel them if you were sitting or standing still but they were noticeable and enough to give you a bit of a fright.
Off to walk the dog. Should have taken him out an hour ago.For every 60 seconds that you are angry, you lose a minute of happiness.

I think there was something like 800 after shocks in the first 2 months after the last one, there have been 20 aftershocks after this one today. We have only felt about 3 were I am. They have got every one out of the rain thankfully but only into marquees. It's time I put my big girl pants on. :grannypants: I hope they fit.

It was horrible even where we were Oney, we had a lot of japanese students at uni, I helped one lady get to her friends, then waited with one other lady with a new baby outside her house while her husband arrived. There are hundreds of people trapped in collapsed buildings. I am lucky I got to leave the city and go home. It's time I put my big girl pants on. :grannypants: I hope they fit.

Luckily we had a warm up to this in September, Search and Rescue, St Johns and the likes all had a practice run for this one. We had all got a bit blaise after the september one, which happened at night so everyone was at home. This one hit at lunchtime so all the main shops and business buildings were full. As I said I had joked earlier about not having felt an aftershock yet. All the safety protocol was in place from the last earthquake but I don't think anyone expected this. I am sure a lot of people will be leaving the city for good now. It's time I put my big girl pants on. :grannypants: I hope they fit.

Now they are saying it was an aftershock from the Sept Quake, but was still on a different faultline. There have been 13 aftershocks today over 5 on the richter scaleIt's time I put my big girl pants on. :grannypants: I hope they fit.

Scary stuff Zeppie! I have never lived in an earthquake zone so really don't know too much about the procedures. Are you out in the country? I imagine that would be a bit safer as less risk of falling buildings? The scenes I saw on the news of them pulling people out of the rubble was just horrific.
