Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...

Another 24 hours please & thank you.

I spoke with a watchmaker yesterday about repairing our grandfather clock. I showed him a photo of the clock, he smiled and told me it’s an heirloom, over 100 years old and worth much more than the offer I had to buy it just before we moved. The not so good news is that he thinks the repair cost will be $6-700. I love this clock and want to see it working again but that’s a lot of money. What will probably decide for me is the fact that skilled watchmakers are getting fewer and fewer and finding someone later on who can do the work is going to be harder. This watchmaker was trained in Germany. I would guess he’s in his mid 70’s and retirement may be close.

Our Parkinson’s Association is having their major fund raiser on Saturday, walks of 1, 3 or 5 kilometres. We’d love to participate but can’t risk being out in public with Covid numbers rising.

Have a great af Thursday everyone!

QW, do it! Fix that clock and enjoy it. There's my unsolicited advice. 😉

Pauly, my sister had to close her salon after 25 years. So sad. She's unable to find renters for her chairs since covid.

Still struggling with this hip. Chiropractor thinks it might be internal shingles. It presents like this sometimes without a rash. I'm vaccinated but I guess it's only 80% affective. Trying to get in for some testing but covid numbers are high and things are kludged up in our health care system at the moment. I was up off and on all night. Ugh

But.... I'm thankful I'm here and hoping for another 24! Thank you for letting me whine.

Good morning Cafe friends and grandfather clock lovers. Have you considered requesting an MRI, Ginger? I asked because some years ago I was being treated for lower back pain. After almost two years of doctors, chiropractic, massage, and shamans, it was determined to be my hip. I had avascular necrosis. I too, wish summer would end. I’m ready for cool weather, leaves changing, flannel shirts, and a Spartan Race. So, with the deepest gratitude I accept another twenty four. I wish you all the best day possible. If it is going in that direction, turn it around. Remember, you create your own reality. Blessings x

Good evening Cafe Friends. I had a session with my therapist this evening, the first one in a while. I have been fairly down since the wreck, and then the whole prescription issue. It's just a lot to process. I am going to try to stay busy and focused at work, and certainly not drink. Tomorrow is my appointment with the "spine guy" at the hospital in the city, so I am interested to see what his opinion is compared to the guy in our little small town.

Anyway, I am wishing the best for all of you and will humbly ask for 24 more please and thanks.

Up early today..guess that I should have gone to bed later last night. On the back porch listening to the night sounds. It won't be long before I have to enjoy my coffee inside as the nights are getting cooler.

I love Grandfather clocks QW! I definitely think that it would be worth it to have it fixed!

Another sober day for me please and thank you!

I can't believe I not only forgot to check in yesterday but I never even came to the website to read! I think that's a first in a very long time. It may've been subconsciously intentional. I am sad to say I drank yesterday. I never drink just 2. Feeling like crap, more emotionally but physically as well. Ugh.

Back on the wagon for me.

24 more please and thank you.

Don’t forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.

Sorry to hear you drank dill, but glad you came right back and that's what really matters!

I agree Quit wining, get the clock fixed! When my maternal grandmother passed away, the only thing I wanted was her mantle clock. It is well over 100 years old, it was her grandmother's and it came with her from England. It hadn't worked for years and I spent a lot of hours taking it apart and cleaning it. My mom told me I was wasting my time, it was never going to work again, the winding springs were wore out. But I stuck with it and got it working again! I only wind it up twice a year now to keep it working, but I'm so glad that I spent the time on it.

Another 24 hours please & thank you.

I’m glad there are others who love grandfather clocks! And, I’ll probably spend the money to have it fixed. In our condo, besides the grandfather clock, I have a mantle clock and several (at least 12) clocks of different styles and ages, including a small mantle style clock that has 1904 scratched into the metal on the back. A watchmaker told me that many years ago, when a clock was repaired, the watchmaker would inscribe the year somewhere on the clock. Don’t get me started on watches and pocket watches, I could be here all day!

A frustrating day yesterday as Mrs QW’s doc says the tests he’s expedited for her will take a while because our hospital resources are being taken by Covid patients, 89% of whom are unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated. And the cost of treating these patients is 3-6 times the cost of treating a heart attack patient. Thousands of surgeries and tests are yet again being delayed. Question - what about the rights of those needing medical care and can’t get it?

Dill, glad you’re back in the Cafe with your friends.

Off for a walk to ease the frustrations. Have a great af Friday everyone.

Dill, glad you came right back! Were you drinking at something? Lately, mine's been this dang pain!

Techie, what did they have to do for that type of hip issue? Looks terrible. Did yours cause numbness and tingling in your leg and foot?

It's 630a here and I'm sitting outside listening to a light sprinkle. It smells of rain. Hope it gets serious and pours. Our fire is now over 100,000 acres. So sad 😞

I'm counting my blessing. You guys are high on that list. 24 more for all of us!

They did a core decompression. They dug a channel up to the head of the femur. They took bone from my pelvis, ground it up and packed it in there to bring a new blood supply. I wore a bone growth stimulator. I got frustrated with the rehab. It wasn’t Intense enough. So, with the stimulator taped to my side, I played street hockey. I then got hit and fractured the compromised femur. They had to put a bunch of hardware in to keep it together. The fracture was such that they couldn’t replaced the hip. I had two more surgeries before finally being forced to have the hip replaced. Glad you asked. Hahaha!

P.S. Yes, I had both tingling and numbness. Mostly Intense bone pain!

Good morning Cafe friends and time lovers. Remember it is relative. A wonderful break from the heat today. Thinking a lot about synchronicities and the impact they have had on my life. I too was up very early this morning. Meditation done and about to take doggie for a walk. My plan is to run 10k today. I need to focus on anything other than 9/11 although it doesn’t haunt me like it once did. A healthy life is moving on. Not forgetting, but not allowing it power over me. So, with undying gratitude I accept another twenty four. I wish you all the best day/weekend possible. Blessings x

Good evening Cafe Friends. I had a really good day today. I had a quick work meeting this morning and then my wife and I went up to the spine specialist in the city. The verdict is that there are no more surprises, and the prognosis is that I will heal up well and should be in good working order here in the next two months or so. The specialist said that I will probably feel it a bit for the rest of my life, especially when the cold hits, and I may see some arthritis some day, but overall it was positive. My wife accompanied me to the doctor as it is really her specialist (she has a bunch of titanium in her back), and we enjoyed a glorious morning. Ate some really good pho for lunch, did some shopping in the big city, and then took a nap when we eventually made it home. We are both so busy that it is a rarity to spend a day together and it was very good for me. I reflected on the day today and how good things can be, and it really reinforces the fact that there is no place for alcohol in my life. I have been done before and slipped, but I am done done this time. It will be a matter of bottling up that reflection and those thoughts that coalesced. I ended the day driving my old bronco out through the country roads to the farm and changed the oil. It was a nice cool ride home at sunset (because the top comes off).

Anyway, after a series of very trying episodes, I needed the balance that today brought. I will humbly ask for 24 more please and thanks. You all will be in my thoughts through the weekend.
