Yikes Slo, an abscessed tooth sounds like no fun at all (my co-worker had one one time and said it was by far the most painful thing he'd ever gone through). I've been very lucky to have good teeth (the one good thing I inherited from my dad, lol), I've never had so much as a cavity (though maybe I do now, I haven't been to the dentist in a while), just a chipped tooth.

Things have slowed down a bit here since my brother left yesterday (was a good 3 weeks though, all told), feels a little emptier with just my me and my mom out here now. I'm looking forward to a few cooler days coming up after temps being well into the 30's the last few days (that's 90's for you southron folk) but thank god we have air conditioning here, a real life saver.

P.S. We had a really tasty alcohol free bubbly rose wine with dinner the other night (went great mixed with a bit of cranberry juice as well). I'm not usually too big on AF booze, but I quite enjoyed that one.

Thanks for asking Ginger, but I'm doing ok. It still hurts after losing both dogs in such a short period of time, but each day gets a little better. I have one dog left but he is fourteen and pretty arthritic, but he gets around ok for now. He is my favorite and follows me around wherever I go. When he goes I will probably be a basket case.

I'm thinking about volunteering at one of the local spay and neuter clinics near me. I think that it will help me as much as it helps the animals.

Rava, the crafting club sounds like a lot of fun and it's great that everyone brings their own projects to work on.

The heat and humidity has gone and it feels wonderful! So grateful for that.

Hi dill, slo, cowboy and Mul!

      Twenty four more please...

Good morning Cafe. Good to hear from you Mul and glad your visit with your brother went well. It has been so hot here that staying indoors seems to be the theme for the week. Hope everyone has a great and sober Friday.

I think volunteering at the clinic would be a great idea Jude. It took us quite a while to get over losing Hank, but now we still laugh at the memories of his antics lol.

How's the hand holding up Ginger, how often do you go to PT?

They capped my tooth after the root canal Slo, but it was a molar so I'm not sure about a front tooth. Are you on any antibiotics for the infection, definitely something to take seriously.

How long do you think you'll keep up the volunteering dill? I know it's only one day a week and you must enjoy doing it.

Sounds like quite a nice community you live in Rava, is it mostly retired people?

That was a long visit with your brother Mulburry, but an enjoyable one from the sounds of it. Where does he call home?

Not much on my agenda for today, looks like we have rain moving in this afternoon and supposed to be here for a few days. It's pretty dry so we can sure use it.

Jude, oh how I get it. Thinking of you my friend. I think volunteering at the clinic would be awesome! Did I share with you, I was planning to be a vet? Then my life took a sudden trajectory in the opposite direction. Oh well, next time! Lol

Slo, I did get a crown but it's all dependent on the quality of the tooth. Mine had a vertical crack and it was a must.

Mul, get to the dentist! It's a lot easier on you and your pocketbook, if you catch things early. Listen to Mama Ginger!

Time to pick up gson from camp! This week flew by. One more day and the parents will be home.

Waves to all! I'll take another

I’m on amoxicillin for the infection, and it must be working since I don’t have so much pain now.
That was me, Mulberry -good, strong teeth, with only one cavity. But a deep pocket has formed in the gum around this tooth, leaving it vulnerable.

It’s a good thing you have air conditioning, Mul! One doesn’t need it so much in Canada, but sometimes. What a nice visit you had with family.
I’d be curious what brand the de-alcoholized rose wine was. Some of those wines taste terrible, but they are improving them.

The plantar fasciitis in my foot is not improving. I ordered some treatments, and I think I need to stay off of the foot more; maybe use crutches some.

The heat & humidity have left here too as of yesterday.

I pick up D4 -Young Daughter -from the airport today! She is done with her travels in Europe.

Cowboy, I have a feeling the hospital will be closed in a year or so, and a year is about how much longer I plan on doing this job. We shall see. It's really good for my mental health to get out and do something useful and to be among people. But I don't expect this job will last much more than a year longer.

Jude, that's a good idea to volunteer at the spay/neuter clinic, especially with your background in health care. I don't know if you have a service dog training center near you, but there is one near us. The use volunteers to help socialize the puppies and to foster the pups when they are really young so that they get used to living with people. Maybe you could look into that. You get to be around dogs but have to let them go when they get to a more trainable age.

Rava, glad you found some crafting buddies! It's great to be able to fill time in non-drinking activities.

Ginger, you would have been a fantastic veterinarian!

Slo, we had a new volunteer start at the hospital a couple of months ago. She was really nice and I was looking forward to getting to know her better. But about a month into it, she developed plantar fasciitis and her doctor told her she must stay off her foot so it could heal. I haven't seen her since. I hope she can get back on her feet again, but it sounds like plantar fasciitis is a real beast to deal with.

Mul, so glad you had such a nice long visit with your brother. Sounds like it was really good for you all to have that time together.

I'm trying a new recipe in the crock pot today. It's so wet outside again I am having to keep busy indoors. The crockpot recipe is a creamy caesar, chicken and pasta concoction. I'll let you all know how it turns out and if it's a keeper.

24 more for all of us here, please and thank you.

Ginger, I wanted to be a veterinarian as well but the years of training and the cost didn't appeal to me, so I decided on an associate degree in veterinary technology. I've never regretted my decision and worked for over twenty years in the profession. I loved working with cats and dogs but my heart was in the large animal work. I loved going out to the farms and working with horses, cows sheep and whatever else they had in the barn. It was truly my dream job until the physical demands became too much for this old body. The volunteer job that I'm looking into is a cats only spay and neuter clinic.

That recipe sounds wonderful dill! Let us know how it turned out. If the hospital closes, will you look for another volunteer job elsewhere?

I've tried some of the af wines before and they weren't very good. Wine was always my drink of choice and I worry that even drinking the NA stuff will wake up that monster in my head.

Waves to all and have a great booze free day!

Good morning all. Jude, the recipe turned out pretty good but I've decided it was too rich for my liking. I'll likely not make it again. Also the recipe called for a pound of pasta, but I used only 3/4 pound and found that to be enough. I'll put the link to the recipe iin at the end of the post f anyone else wants to give it a go.

I feel the same way about Non-alcohol wines as you do, Jude. I believe I'm better off sticking with fruit juice mixed with sparkling water.

It's a cool and foggy morning here. Quite a pleasant change from all the heat.

24 more for all of us, please and thank you.

Good morning Cafe. Dill, I am gonna check out that recipe and if I make it I will go light on the pasta. Yesterday our little neighborhood turned ugly. A family in the hood caused some trouble and the police were called. It makes me sick that people can be so stupid. The majority of the people here are good hardworking but then there are some undesirables vacationing here that have to get drunk and loud and ruin it. I guess these problem are pretty much everywhere. I am glad I pretty much stay to myself and my small circle of nice people in the community. Hope everyone has a great and sober day. We are attending a cookout with lots of booze. I am bringing my sparkling water and making a plan. This is the house that I have repeatedly woke up drunk from. I am playing the tape in my head and do NOT plan on imbibing. I have also decided to retire to my room tonight at 6 pm with my Kindle to avoid any further temptation. 24 more please and thank you.

We're pretty lucky in our neighborhood Rava, mostly all retired people and quiet most of the time. It only takes one to cause a problem though.

I'm thinking about the same dill, another year or year and a half and then I'll retire completely.

I don't know how people can afford what an education costs these days Jude, but somehow Bubba and I helped all the kids through university.

I'll bet D4 will be filled with stories of her trip Slo, enjoy your time with her.

Sounds like you'll have a quiet house again soon Ginger, but I'll bet you'll miss having the g-kids around.

It was supposed to start raining last night and last for a few days, but nothing yet. Sure hope it comes sometime today.

Jude, I think what you ended up doing was the best of both worlds, as far as veterinary care goes. One of the programs I managed at the college when i first started there, was Vet Tech. There classrooms were just off my offices. I made special trips out there more than any of the other programs just to see the animals. I ended up with one of the little dogs and had her 16 years. We estimated she was close to three when she was brought in so she had a good long life! She continued to come to work with me everyday, until I transferred to the technology department. Awww good memories!

Waves all.... I'll take another day!

My baby had such a good time in Europe! She was full of stories! I am so happy that she enjoyed herself so much and saw and experienced so many things.

My foot is really bad. I think it’s plantar fasciitis, on top of neuropathy and some malformation from the lift and orthotics. It sounds from your story, Dill, that I had better figure out a way to offload. I suppose crutches, even though those can be difficult to use.

Fun, touching stories about your experiences with working with and around animals!
