Alcohol sales are down according to Hubby's stock report causing retailers to amp up displays and adds. Sounds like the younger gen are choosing alternatives to AL like weed and mocktails.

I have heard the same thing. Maybe all the science around how bad alochol actually is for you is starting to have an impact, a bit how it did with smoking for my generation.

I'm surprised that alcohol sales are down but maybe people are getting smarter about their health these days. I cringe when I think about the money that I wasted on booze. Worse yet was the damage to my liver caused by years of drinking. So not worth it!

Good morning Cafe. Ginger, that would make sense about new ways to display booze. Aldis for years has never had the display at the entryway of the store. You have to pass the wine to get to the fruits and veggies. I see people casually picking up one or two bottles along with their groceries. I think to myself, how can they do that? Rather than thinking my brain is broken I need to change that narrative and think I dont drink it because it’s poison. It is literal poison. All these people that are health nuts and then turn around and drink wine. That is very counterproductive. Anyway, enough of that. Meeting up with some friends today to have lunch and crab on the river. They will be drinking but we will be bringing sparkling water and Diet Coke. Hope everyone has a great and sober day.

Dentist went OK yesterday. There were a couple of bumps along the way so thank goodness for numbing! I appreciate my dentist and his staff so much!

The "in your face" wine displays bring about the contrarian in me! We will get thru the Holidays in spite of them!

I think it's great that alcohol sales are down, alcohol has destroyed too many lives and will continue to do so but at least people are getting smarter about the amount of alcohol they consume.

A year from now when the new fed law kicks in and stops the sale of hemp products, I bet we see those AL sales go back up. It makes me wonder if the AL lobby is behind this change in law. Weed sales are basically new in comparison to AL and don't have the lobbying power of AL. Humans have been trying to numb themselves since time immemorial. Sad

Woke up to a winter wonderland this morning, that means a date with the snow shovel lol.

Wow, that's early! It got down to 2C here last night, but then we had a wonderful sunny day today (fnally) so I'm not complaining.

Humans have been trying to numb themselves since time immemorial.

This is true, but as much or morseo ancient peoples also used substances (a vast variety of psychedelics but even cannibis and tobacco) for shamansitc and spriitual purposes. Like with most things, even mind altering substances, when used properly can serve a useful function... but when abused and used purely for escape and without moderation,they can be extremely harmful.

Good morning cafe! Yesterday I took my 102 year old friend and neighbor to her dentist appointment. She's doing great physically but her memory is not so good. I have never taken her to the dentist before and unfortunately she couldn't remember where they were located or the name of the doctor. We drove around for awhile before we found the place and we even made it on time for her appointment. Never rely on a person with dementia for directions!

The holidays are a tough time to stay sober for many of us. Every Christmas morning I would start out by drinking coffee with a generous helping of Bailey's Irish cream. So bad for you but damn it tasted good.

Wow, 102 and still has her own teeth?? That's amazing! You are such a great friend to her Jude.

I try and follow the news most days Ginger, but I haven't seen anything about the hemp products sales. Is that just for the edibles?

It's not as early for our area as one might think Mulburry, already more than 1/2 way through November. We had about 4" of snow and this morning its -15C (6F) so I'm almost thinking winter is almost here to stay.

Glad to hear the dentist visit went okay dill, are you done with appointments now for a while?

We'll soon be flooded with Christmas alcohol commercials on the tv Rava, funny how they always promote alcohol and having a great time going hand in hand.

I got quite a surprise yesterday when the lumber/hardware store (Rona) called to tell me the garage doors were in! They delivered them yesterday afternoon so hopefully we'll get a decently warm day to install them.

Good morning Cafe. Jude, I bet that was a challenging drive with your elderly neighbor. So good of you to take her there! The more I read about alcohol use and abuse, I think the younger generation is realizing that alcohol is not good for you. Back in the day if you drank too much you were an alcoholic and destined to either go to AA or die. Now it seems like they are calling it alcohol use disorder and it’s not so black or white. Many people are aware of their drinking habits and choose to either drink less or stop drinking. It doesn't necessarily scream alcoholic as in the olden days. I think that makes it more acceptable for people to stop drinking. If you don't go to AA does not mean you will not succeed or become a dry drunk. It just means there are more opportunities to stay sober. I like more options. Any way to stay sober is a good way to me. Hope everyone has a great and sober day. 24 more please and thank you.

ABC, I think it's all types of hemp but I'm really not sure. I only half listened to the story. Lol All I know for sure, if people want it, they'll get it, legal or not.

Great news about the garage doors coming in so quickly, Cowboy. I hope you do get some good weather to install them before the winter settles in. I'm done with doctor appointments until I see the Urologist in early December.

Rava, I think the kids today have a lot to deal with. Much more so than when we were coming up. I hope more and more just say no to drugs and alcohol. They don't lead anywhere good.

Ginger, you are right about people getting drugs and alcohol whether legal or illegal. But I tend to think our society would be better off if the government weren't in the business of selling them.

Jude, I can just imagine that trip to the dentist office. So lucky you found the place. Make a note of it for future trips. I worry about your friend and neighbor being on her own with her diminishing memory.

Mul, I've been hearing and reading more lately about psychedelics being used in clinical studies for some psychological problems such as PTSD. They are showing some promising results.

I had a good day volunteering, but I am tired out as usual. It's ok though. I can take it easy for the rest of the day.
