Good morning Army --I do pilates and hate it but it keeps me from suffering Sciatica. Well done JC's niece --Been away in Shropshire for a bit and now just off to the Outer Hebrides in 30 minutes. I will probably out of signal so not even taking a phone. Love mornings!!

Arvo a'body.
JackieClaire - Glad your niece sounds kinda sanguine about not getting maths. And York's a very bonnie place to be (and closer to auntie Jackie... for homemade shepherds/cottage pie ).
anon - Whizzy in the Outer Hebrides - beautiful. Closest I've been to there was this year when I spent some days in Skye... Idyllic. Enjoy!

At long last, after being back with kids for a day and half, I finally got back into class this arvo. This year's going to be...interesting... working across two schools, doing different things with different classes in each (so not my own class, other than thurs pm and friday)... Feeling a wee bit like I'm a pawn for the powers above to move and play as they please with. I have "permanency" with the council, but not to a school, so theoretically I can be moved anywhere and told to do anything.... Would much rather have a single class to focus on and get to know and teach well. The upside, however, is I do have less marking to do

Off to make an omelette. As you do.

Re: Join the Army Against Alcohol-August 2017

My skills and experience are so crazy I am getting job offer after job offer. 60,000CAD (~50,000USD) in 6 months I have hit. A lawyer and a dentist have said to me the companies I've worked for charge more for me per hour than they make. I locate leaks to within inches (highly specialized) and can repair pumps with a blindfold essentially. I'm really hesitant about the industries I've been involved in which is trades (plumbing copper and pvc, pools 11 yrs, electrical 600v 100 amp, licensed in nat/propane gas for another 11yrs). I have a tendency to relapse when others around me drink especially after work and things go wrong fast. Which is why I don't go to bars, haven't been in one for well over a decade. Now half these people drink on the job so its especially tough. I am considering an entire career change. The thing is that its become so easy that I get bored and then drink too. Any advice?

Raised by a Masters in Social Work so I have a ton of psych knowledge and drug knowledge. So any advice before I roll the dice?

empyr3al.............I never liked bars either...........other people seemed so slow with their drinking used to drive me insane.

Advice.........write a list of things you want to do or achieve.........remember there's no rush as we've given ourselves time by giving up alcohol.

Have you thought about volunteering in something you'd like to do?

Evening troops,

One week down. Eight to go. Though only had a day and half of teaching. Should be thankful for a gentle week back... Still don't know what I'm doing Monday morning at me other skool....:cuss:

empyr3al - confession, I'm a closet trekkie... and was watching For the Love of Spock, made by his son. In it he (Leonard Nimoy) speaks about his relationship with alcohol and how eventually he needed to replace it with something - he didn;t do AA or the like, but worked out his own route for recovery. Photography was what he did - like, proper, old school DIY photography. Obviously had the money to have his own dark room. But from I understand that then took over his life and drink was completely abandoned.

It is finding those things that occupy us and enable us to see things in relation to AL - e.g. when I started doing long distance running (marathons and beyond), I would not dare drink for fear it would affect my running - or that I'd wake up and not feel arsed to get up and out. So for a time I just had to think of running and that would take my mind away from any thought about a drink/boredom.

Have you studied psychology? Could you do that, or look for work/volunteering that enables you to put these skills to good use?

Evening,
I decided to go out and have a shopping fest and ended up with 3 tupperware type things and some dog chews. Just couldn't get the shopping mojo going.

Never could get away with the new Star Trek. Captain Kirk (phasers to stun) and Spock every time.

I've started re-watching Vikings on Netflix again.........anticipating the series 5.

I like that story.. Its true, distraction (and a bit of determination/stubbornness) go a long way on the early days.
I dusted off my runners last week. One day I will run a marathon, but I will continue to find excuses for the foreseeable

Pretty sure they're the exploration of Yoga and belly dancing. Congrats to her JC!

Empy - i reckon there'd be plenty of volunteering opportunities to help show folks who are struggling with life how to surf the net/put together a cheap computer system?

RunningCourage I have watched every startrek episode made, there is no shame. There is a new one coming if rumor has it right. I think its listed on IMDB. Star Trek: Discovery (TV Series 217– ) - IMDb Interesting, I have to look into this book about Nemoy. I learned actual photography in highschool, but film is discontinued as of like 2 or more years ago. Was full dark room and chemicals to process. I have not "studied" in psychology in a school, but because of access I have read a ton. My grandfather had a huge library. Work is unlikely as everything here requires you to have some sort of degree, but volunteering maybe. New projects in Canada for how you get what we call OSAP. So your schooling is essentially paid for and you pay a small portion back for the life support (apt, food) you are given. But I'm late and have to wait until the next school session. A friend of mine applied and is frustrated, should be starting September after they rung him around because he has lived in quebec for years. I live very close to the US border (we call its the american border because we are not the same). So dialect changes, just 50 km away the what an A is pronouned is odd. He is stunned that I can hear what he says in french. I am stunned as well. He does it for fun, and me as well. I am often wrong but very very close. Anyways a link to our calculator https://www.ontario.ca/page/osap-ont...stance-program if you want to learn for free Khan (curious reference, in this post) Academy Log in | Khan Academy

Would like to say I'm up and at it, but am slouching in bed, deliberating a run, but procrastinating by reading here, there and wherever else takes my fancy.

Should really take on the lyrics of an ol' 80's kids Saturday TV programme i watched... Wide Awake Club anyone?!:

"We're wide awake

It's Saturday, no school today, so what you gonna do?
There's no excuse to stay in bed we're waiting here for you
Oh, Wide Awake...your start

RunningCourage there is already a second season of the new star trek discovery being discussed. Have fun closet trekker. It seems the first season is complete, Semt, we seem too get shows in entire seasons all at once, but that hasnt been the practice of star trek. CBS; who knows. We would run torrents as soon as they were aired.
