Re: February Army Thread

Evening all.
Operating on 1 car at the moment, so it's not great. Plus mocks. Plus middle DD is working with me for TY work experience. Shes doing various tours of our plant and people keep coming up saying, you must be Mary's daughter (mini me, minus her many piercings)..

Inchy, you'd be very welcome to defect over here, we are, at last, where we should be. Still a few nutters knocking around but they're in the minority. Or almost dead.

Well done techie, all those years of endurance training and racing will stand to you now. You sound in good form.

This thread is pretty addictive, ftr. I can't stop reading, then going back, then rereading, then going back again. Suddenly I'm in a wormhole and the date is 2019.

I'd appreciate it if y'all would start speaking English, though. It gets very confusing. (:egad::heartbeat: I'm kidding, of course.) (Sort of. Not that you should change what you're writing, but half the time I'm just missing it and have to google. That actually makes me happy because it makes me feel sophisticated. But is it disingenuous if I start my posts with, "Mae all!" which is the sweetest good morning, ever. anyway.)

Really interesting that in Ireland you were able to go from what I would consider fundamentalist religiosity to a queer PM. I do know the difference between the Irelands, I think, but obviously have a long way to go. Going to have to google that and catch up.

Always have more to say, but signing off. After best wishes for techie. Happy and hopeful for you that this will be over soon. And if you can deal with long distance running pains, and toenails falling off...

Language inter cultures is hilariously different
..I usually 'get' Americanism's ...maybe because we get/got a lot of American shows and movies over here...sort of understand the differences...British English also...but back when there was an Aussie thread I used to read but more often than not twas a foreign language to me!!
MAE is a lovely greeting with different time zones!

A pivotal shift here was when the HORRENDOUS scandals of Catholic institutions was revealed here...mother and baby homes...care homes...you name it the clergy went from being an admired superior species to dirt under our shoes...the older generation to us (my mothers) were horrified and within a decade religion became utterly irrelevant...on top of that Irish people generally are a kind gentle race by nature (MASSIVE generalisation of course) and having been subjugated to racism here for 100's of years by other forces we wouldn't allow religious clergy do that anymore...so yeah...lovely free society these days...so sad that so many (particularly women) were hurt by dominance of Catholicism for so long like Inchy's friend

Morning all.

That's fab news about Joe Molls! Must be like getting a freedom pass

Been out for a lovely walk this morning. For some reason feeling a bit out of sorts. Dunno why but hopefully it will lift throughout the day.

There are some horrific stories in the name of religion. Its terrifying how one thing can literally chain nations to a doctrine.

Must start sorting out the garden job. It will look lovely when its done but struggling to find the impetus to arrange it. Oh and Mr S left the door unlocked last night. Luckily we were not murdered in our beds :haha:

Morning,
Sorry I went missing but had a vile snot giving cold. Must have gone through two kitchen rolls. Feeling a bit more human today but now got a blocked nose and smell of Vicks VapoRub.

Ach, Molls, I watch so many American Cop shows that I could prolly solve any murder in the US in minutes.

We've been gobbled up with The Catch set on the south coast of England and its actually filmed in Balbriggan. Its beautiful very much like the beaches up here (we are near the border to Scotland) Remember going to Devon when the kids were very young and the beaches were just pebbles but luckily we live up North, our county borders Scotland and its proper sand.

Now got a man that can cutting back the trees front and back.

Edit: Molls good news for Joe and you.

Got the news I did not want to get in regards to funding, handled it in typically heroic fashion - got high. Not proud of it. Gonna be out for a couple days having a bit of a wallow, be back next week.

So sorry to hear that Battle but stick around while having your wallow. Know from experience how easy it is to skulk away and with no accountability go back to square one.

Productive day painting, ceiling finished. Hope your cold improves JC. Heard some lovely news today, my cousins daughter who is 41 and got married last year is 15 weeks pregnant. Delighted for them.

Right better go do dinner, it’s all air fryer tonight.

Thanks guys. Just keep replaying it - the funding was worth £70,000+ across three years. Would've changed my life. Only myself to blame, application wasn't good enough.

Nope - no alternative sources, no appeals, no reapplying. I have student loans which with my job and an insurance payout for the head injury I sustained in a car accident a few years ago means I can scrape by. Good news is no money for alcohol in the budget. Bad news is, no money for much beyond basic survival. Lucky I love my studies haha

Ah sorry to hear that Inchy. Any way to have another source of income? Grinds (tutoring)? Writing?
How long before your Dr. Inch?

Yes, my sil was 44 and 46 having her kids. Both my grandmother's had children at 48 (Catholic ireland, contraception wasn't allowed!)
lovely story Rustop. Still hope Satz.. maybe there will be a clue in the sort of house they're looking at.

For Ne.. oiche mhaith gach duine.

I already work 17.5 hours a week as a clerical assistant in addition to the 40+ hours i put into my research each week. They're slashing the budget right now so my jobs not exactly stable, and by all accounts school of arts (where i could work as a lecturer) is going to be hit pretty bad by budget cuts, because as always those of us in creative fields are looked at as 'expendable'. I only just started so my estimated end date is January 2026. I don't want to be all negative, I'm doing something I love its just my situation financially is incredibly precarious and I was so close to having security for the first time in 30 years.
