    Baclofen in Canada

    Hello,

Does anyone have any advice on obtaining Baclofen pills in Canada without a prescription? I have seen Canadian research chemical companies, where it can be ordered as a powder. I'm not sure how I would dose it if I went this route.

I started taking naltrexone about 2 years ago. It may have helped somewhat, but I still ended up drinking on it. I stopped the nal about a year ago. Recently, I have had a few lapses. I contacted the clinic where I was prescribed the naltrexone, hoping to see the doc to discuss trying baclofen instead. However, they said that an anti-craving medication isn't indicated at this time, and suggested counselling for relapse prevention. I guess becuase my pattern of drinking has been one occasion, 6-8 drinks, every 2 months or so. That would be fine, if I thought I could maintain that pattern, but based on 25 years of history I am worried about the relapses becoming more frequent ending in complete loss of control. I'm hoping if I can start the baclofen on my own, then I can try again with the clinic.

I have ordered Dr. Ameisen's book, which should arrive this week. Any advice is appreciated.

My wife began as a binge drinker. I don't think that makes a difference. If you have an anxiety based craving then I would think Baclofen would work.

U of T med school is associated with a clinic downtown somewhere, according to a poster here a few years ago. Read Ameisen's book but beware, he doesn't discuss dosage of the drug at all, only that you have to take enough to hit the trigger. Read the Prescribing Guidelines and come here. Hopefully, in time, this will become a more supportive place, again.

    Best wishes.

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

I second the River recommendation. I have used them many times and they are in Canada.

It's the CAMH - Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto.

I'm pretty sure that you can't use River if you live in Canada. They only ship overseas. Weird, I know.

You'll have to use one of the other online pharmacies, if that's how you decide to go. If someone doesn't come along with some suggestions, I'll dig some up.

Get this: Vanuatu is this little island country off the coast of India and their main source of income for the entire country is making pharmaceuticals to sell online. Isn't that wild? They had a major earthquake that wiped out most of their infrastructure last year and I FREAKED out thinking that my supply of baclofen was going to be interrupted. Fortunately, I was just being paranoid and all worked out fine.

The reason I know this, for the record, is that when I first started ordering online I was completely freaked out about it and couldn't figure out where the meds came from so went digging.

That was your little geography lesson for the day. You're welcome.

Im not sure if this is still the case but they do not accept card payments or paypal last time I enquired

They directed me to a money transfer company (Orbit something or other) who wanted to charge a fortune for my transfer

Were cheap mind £75.00 for 400 x 10mg Bac tabs

That said River Pharmacy who do accept cards have a slightly odd system

Totally amazing. At just 60mg of baclofen daily, I have noticed a huge reduction in my desire to drink. I had a situation recently in which I normally would have several drinks... and I just wasn’t interested at all.
I will continue to increase my dosage slowly. No noticeable side effects at this point. I am going to call CAMH in Toronto next week to try to get an appointment.

Thanks again to everyone for all the helpful information.
