Hi Fellow Abbers!!

Just had to post about my day. It was a hoot.

But first:

LVT, You know you are doing the right thing. Under age drinking is not okay. Period. It is how 90% of us got started. I know my son was an alcoholic by the time he was 15 or so.

DG, You go girl!! Yes. I agree. I can go out and eat or whatever and be around others drinking but none at my house. Period. I am too susceptible to the lure of AL.

Mary, I am so glad you got past the drinking. Hunger and boredom are both triggers of mine. However, so is feeling good, feeling sad, being happy, etc. I think I am an alcoholic....

Well, luckily I bought an already made cake, I started the artichokes early, and got every thing ready in time. The power went out just as we started to cook the steaks. But the grill didn't need power, just the gas.

We had the entire birthday party by fireplace and candlelight. It was kinda fun.

We have power back now, though, and kids, who are spending the night, are all happy because they were afraid of the dark. :-)

Anyway, all my friends, have a great AF Saturday night and I hope all rest well.

Cindi--that sounds like an awesome dinner! You couldn't have planned it any better.
I'm beginning to realize how little I knew about AL before I started here at MWO. Now I believe everybody should learn as much if not more about alcohol--especially parents. I think as a society in general we have become so focused on the drinking and driving issue--we haven't been educated on all the other dangers of AL. Someone made the comment at the meeting, if all we had to do was take away their keys--it wouldn't be that big of a deal. It was also said that the addiction is usually in place by age 18.

Cindi & LVT, you're absolutely right about under-aged drinking. It's not ok...and way too many of us got started that way!

Hi all! Before moving on to "todays" thread, I just want to thank everyone for letting me vent and for your support. I learned something from this one!

At the end of it all, Mr. Doggy and I reached what seems a very sane and reasonable compromise. What I learned through this little event is that I really, really do over react to things. (ya think???) AA - are you listening??? This was about CONTROL. I want to control everything, and I'm unhappy when faced with stuff outside my control. Guess what. If I want to lead a peaceful and serene life, I better start working on that.

The situation itself wasn't really that bad. It was my reaction to it that was bad.

Mr. Doggy is my biggest fan and supporter. And as I already figured out (but was mad anyway because I couldn't control it!) he was put in a rather uncomfortable situation where it would have been awckward (sp) to tell our dog trainer he COULDN'T come over for a beer on the porch short of "selling me out" as the reason why. Yes, he could have made up any number of stories but I also know how it is when you are caught unexpectely, and have a few seconds to respond. And the two of them having a few beers on the porch is NOT the end of the world for me, even though I reacted as though it was.

No, I don't want drinking on the porch every Saturday. But geez - how 'bout me NOT making a mountain out of a mole hill, and having the patience to wait until later and talk about it in a calm and rational way? Now there's a new idea! Mr. Doggy DOES live here too and also has a say in things, and I really should be thankful that he IS so considerate and DOESN'T want to bring this to our porch every Saturday.

So...I gathered up a few ideas this morning to help me work on staying calm when something upsets me, and handling things without creating chaos and drama over it. Us drunks do like our drama, don't we???? Onward and forward. With practice this will get better and I will be happier and have lower blood pressure as a result.

Marshy, I love the picture of your bicycle with the bridge in the back drop. Does your bicycle have a name? (if not, we should elect one!) I can see it now. Sort of like "Where's Waldo?" Where's ____(insert Marshy's bike name here)__? And then we get to see pictures of your bike all over the world. Or at least all over London.

Good insights, DG, and hard to own up to 'em. Good for you!

I must say that I did identify with your anger and frustration at what was happening, especially since it undoubtedly felt as if this one event was going to turn into a weekly beer-fest right in your own home!

I'm glad you and your husband were able to work it out so rationally and peaceably! Even though there were difficult feelings, there was no blood loss, and no relapses... all in all, pretty damn good, right?

Yesssss.... wouldn't that require rather a lot of effort on MY part, while you lot get to sit around and be armchair tourists? :H
