    Re: feb 10

    Good gracious evening Abbers,

I can't believe it's been snowing steadily for nearly 24 hrs, oh boy! I measured 3" of snow late this morning & have no idea what's out there now. We may be getting ice on top of all this tomorrow morning, geez.
I baked up 4 of those 'Flock Blocks' for my chickens today. It's all part of my Anti-Pecking plan, LOL. It takes them all day to consume one of those hard baked cakes, better than pecking on each other. I think they will be cooped up for several days from the looks of things.

Mick, hope you are well, you sound busy!
Glad you're not getting snowed on as well.

Pauly, I have to laugh when I see my son driving those massive trucks. I took him out for driving practice when he was 16. I watched him parallel park my full size Chevy without batting an eye. I remember asking him: How did you do that? I can't do that without a lot of stress & sweat, haha! I should have know he wound end up driving like a pro

Cyn, maybe, just maybe these storms will miss you??? That would be kind of nice, right?

Det, hope you are well. Same with you SK, Pie & Sam!

    PQ, what's up with you?

    Have a nice evening everyone!

The seven dwarfs always left early each morning to go to work in the mine. As always, Snow White stayed home doing her domestic chores.

As lunchtime approached, she would prepare their lunches and take them to the mine.

One day as she arrived at the mine with the lunches, she saw that there had been a terrible cave-in. Tearfully, and fearing the worst, Snow White began calling out, hoping against hope that the dwarfs had somehow survived.

"Hello. Hello!" she shouted. "Can anyone hear me? Hello!" For a long while, there was no answer. Losing hope, Snow White again shouted, "Hello! is anyone down there?"

Just as she was about to give up all hope, she heard a faint voice from deep within the mine, "Donald Trump for President"

Snow White fell to her knees and prayed, Oh, thank you, God! At least Dopey is still alive!

          morning all,
a wet drenching cold nasty rain here, our mold is growing mold on itself. My brother lives in Seattle sent photos of them getting lots of snow, very unusual there. Needless to say, not much field work going on here! looks like we are all having weather related "wonderments"

reckon the rain's let off enough to jump on the tractor.

            MAE all ,

Ha! Mick, loved the Snow White joke! So sorry about your FIL... I hope Julie is doing OK, it must be hard for both of you.

PPQ, oh gosh, I thought you knew me well enough to know that I regularly get the days wrong... it's the product of being self-employed and working every day of the week... I rarely know what day it is... I had to check the calendar 'this morning to see if it was Tuesday or Wednesday. That's why I'm always wishing people Happy Hump Day on the wrong day... oh well! So sorry about your brutal temps... hang in there , hopefully there is an end in sight soon!

Lav, are you getting hammered right now? It's on its way to us now... 4-8 inches, then .25 inches of ice, oh goody. Sheesh. I wish it would just snow and be done with it. Sounds like next week will be interesting too. Re: garden and birds. It is spooky here, I've had feeders up for weeks, with suet blocks, etc, and finally yesterday one bird came. One. No crows, grackles, or anything, just dead silence and full feeders... not even squirrels. Spooky. So I just went ahead and cleaned up the beds next to the house... they were looking kind of derelict, and I am now in Curb Appeal mode, so I thought I'd get a jump on it...

Pauly, I finally made the leap to an Instant Pot... will let you know how it goes. I'm going out ahead of the snow here to get something to cook in it... need to get started. I hope it turns out to be as convenient and FAST as is advertised. Lav says so! Did Vegas have snow? I saw some headline... and snow in Maui also!!?

SK, how is the big cat whisperer doing? How was your time with Vivian? I was glad to hear that she was coming over...

Det, hope all is going well. Hi to Sam and Pi...

            Blessings!

PQ,I'm thawing out whole chicken to try in my air fryer tomorrow, it comes with a rotisserie rack so we shall see,Lav,at least the chickens get a treat yay! Waves to all and wishes for a great BF Tuesday!
I have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:

                  Re: feb 10

                  Greetings folks!

Woke up to an ice coating on everything this morning ~ not swell
Fortunately it warmed up a few degrees & has been raining ever since so the ice is pretty much gone. I made YB escort me to the chicken house this morning so I could take care of things for them. I'm not risking a fractured hip or something for my chickens, haha!!

Mick, sorry to hear about Julie's dad. He's still living alone? That could be making his depression/dementia worse. Isolation is a big problem with the elderly, actually with everyone really. We all need to feel part of a community of some sort. Is there such a thing as adult daycare over there? I actually looked into opening one myself decades ago but was put off by some of the strenuous rules & regulations for licensing. Older folks do respond favorably to group activities.
                  Just a thought anyway.
That firetruck my son was driving Sunday belongs to the local volunteer fire company of which he is a member. He has trained to drive all of their trucks I believe because he really likes to do that. When he is as work in DC he doesn't drive anymore because he's in charge of everything & everyone. His job is to supervise & make decisions. Soon after he graduated from the fire academy there he tested for & was promoted to technician (driver) at the fire house he was assigned to at the time.

Sam, I bet you have tons of mud down your way after all this dampness, yuck. Try not to get that tractor stuck in a giant mud pit.

Pauly, the chickens love their baked seed cakes, they never leave a crumb. They appreciate me, LOL
                  Here's the recipe I use:

Cyn, plug in that IP, be fearless, ha ha!!!
Today I dropped a 6 lb chicken in mine, cooked it for 36 minutes on high pressure & it came out perfectly
I've seen a lot of people saying they have no birds at their feeders this year - I think they're all at my feeder!!! The squirrels are there too of course.
I hope you don't get hit too hard with this storm stuff. It's starting to get a bit tiresome. Be careful out there!

Hello to PQ, you are probably posting too

Hello to Det, SK and Pie.

                  Have a nice night everyone!

                    Re: feb 10

                    Hi ho.

Lav, that visit rates all the way up there. Grandson must have been thrilled! Good job on the seed cakes, you solve many problems in such a productive and thoughtful way.

Mick, glad you're helping to carry the load for Julie. Nice one.

                    How old is he?

Sam, I feel your pain. In WA state we lived on acreage with an annual rainfall of 125-140" of rain. It becomes disheartening. The movie "Twilight" was filmed there. Mold on mould, and it was a devil of a time to keep it off the roof. I think I had that SAD issue, so I bought the special lamps but it was the dogs and cats that hogged it! Ironically, it was so gorgeous there when it wasn't raining and we had the coastline all the way to Oregon.

Pauly, I'm curious about how the chicken will turn out.

PPQ, leftovers are so easy. When the kids were small I used to spend only about 1-1/2 hrs in the kitchen on a Sunday afternoon and cook chili, meatloaf and roast 1 or 2 chickens and make salad dressing for the week. That's when I was younger and actually had energy, lol.

Cyn, I am confused about where you live. I thought you were in proximity to NYC, or somewhere on the east coast. Then I thought you were in N.Z. It doesn't matter, just glad you are here.

Hey Det, you seem to be bobbing along nicely. You are definitely making the effort!

                    Sleep well.

                      MAE ALL...

Mick...unfortunately the pic didn't work. Wow, that was a quick turn around with the neighbours. It is sad about your FIL and I'm sure things will have to change soon. Most of us were trying to get my MIL to sell the house and move into a retirement place. She had worked all her life and was very active with curling, bowling, bridge, etc. and ended up just sitting at home by herself. I spent as much time as I could with her but when the ex moved back in I was out of there.

Sam...I think I'd rather put up with the frigid temps then your wet drenching cold nasty rain, just makes me shiver! You be safe out there.

TG...good to know about the day mix ups. LOL I remember the year I didn't work I never knew what day it was and I never had a Friday. These temps are getting tiring, at least they're a dry cold. Curb appeal mode! how soon do you expect to put it on the market? When you make a decision it's full steam ahead isn't it! Remember when the word hammered meant something totally different? LOL

Pauly...let me know how the chicken turns out tomorrow. We're having rotisserie chicken for supper tonight but I didn't cook it. For some reason I have a craving for stuffing.

Lav...yup, posting right along with you. We woke up to an ice coating on everything this morning too. Unfortunately it didn't warm up so it's still there. People were going so slow they were going backwards, some of them actually were. So lucky I have one straight well traveled road to work. Good plan not risking a fracture, I'm amazed has how many mobility challenged seniors are still showing up for their programs. I worry about them. The firetruck looks great. Reminds me of my sister who sits on a volunteer fire board and when her grand-kids visit a trip on the truck is the first order of business.

Det...have you headed out yet? I'm assuming the trip is work related.

Off to start dinner. Have a safe and sober evening all....:smile:PPQP

X-Post SK...sounds like you're doing good with no signs of vertigo I hope. You be careful about falling if you're out and about.

this past couple months have been and I'm SO grateful to be rocking my sobriety.

was so beat tonight I went to a new restaurant, a Korean joint near Maryland and Karen (for Pauly) and had the most enormous meal I've ever seen.
will get a pic uploaded soon. Thankfully it was great.

Crap weather here and there in AB land I see. been mighty strange here but I rather like strange.

Made it to a different Buddhist recovery/meditation combo last night that was conducted at a kung fu school which was so neat and brought back
memories of my Chinese martial arts days. A very powerful and much needed meditation for me happy to say.

Mick, sorry i can't remember if you found treasure yet? been so distracted today/tonight.

thanks all for being here and being great. off to prep some interview clothes for another super early day.

                        be well loves

                              Hello Abbers,

Lav and PPQ, solidarity - hmmmm same sheet of ice here! It was supposed to rain overnight, so I didn't worry too much when we went to bed... but letting the dog out this morning was quite the sight... he started to skate, then I tried to help, then we were both flying around. Managed to reach the (paws safe) ice melt and spread it while we whirled around. No broken bones for either of us, whew. The propane man came to fill our tank and almost wiped out, and on leaving the truck got stopped at the end of the drive... he eventually got out onto the road. So it's been an eventful morning! Hey, Lav nice to hear exactly what your son is up to... a high achiever there, like his sister... and his Mom!

Pauly, glad that you didn't have to deal with snow - sorry kb feels trapped, it can happen - "cabin fever"! Hope your chicken dinner was great!

Det, all I can do is "ditto" PPQ's brilliant post! I admire your searching and tenacity; that Buddhist meditation sounded great. Good luck on the job decisions.

Mick, I hope the new neighbors are good folks. The bunnies are frisky, eh? Keep talking about spring... it seems a world away here, even though we recently had warm temps... weird. Lots of these small towns in the east have volunteer fire departments, and ambulance crews. It's a real community effort, and they are all trained to do their jobs. They are run by town money and donations. At our Thanksgiving holiday time, all the towns get together and have a big parade with the trucks decked out... like a tiny Macy's day parade... it's a competition for the best-decorated fire truck. For me, just the trucks by themselves are beautiful!

SK, sorry to confuse, yes I am in the East, a couple of hours from NYC... my poorly-proofed typing must have been at fault for your confusion, sorry! Are you feeling better, recovering from the vertigo?

                              Hi to Sam and Pi!

I was housebound yesterday and am also today, but there is more than enough to do here - taxes, getting the house ready for a potential March 15 listing (!), getting caught up with client reports, etc. I hope to do some interior painting today... I can't look at electronics all day!!!!

PS, Lav, I not only plugged in the IP, I did the pressure test (incorrectly) and made some quinoa (incorrectly), but haven't broken the thing yet! Going for beef stew this afternoon.

                              May we be well --
