Hi everyone. Fell asleep on the couch last night. Warm and windy night here. Just been outside to check out the beautiful big moon. Wow. There are palm trees in my complex and looking at the moon through the fronds is pretty magic.

Jude I loved Blue Lights. Had been waiting ages for the second series to arrive here. Then they only put one episode per week on. Aargh. Torture.

Rava I really get you with anger. I think it is a normal thing for us all. It can certainly overcome us. My days of that are over. I decided that it only made me lose control of myself and give my power away. It made me unhappy. I certainly know all the injustices in this world,

It is one year ago since Ben's funeral. There were so many more people there then I expected., We all went to a lakeside park for his wake. So many new and old mates. He started using drugs after his dad died and I lost the plot. It was hell on earth to be honest. But we stuck together til the end. He was just coming good after many attempts in Rehab. He was my gorgeous boy.

    Night night everyone.xxx

Hi Cafe. Late check in for me today. Peachie I am sorry that today is the anniversary of Ben’s funeral. This must be so tough for you and then you relive those bad memories. Hope you can continue to remember all the good things about your gorgeous boy. Drugs and alcohol both suck. We got your back. It’s raining today in FL. Hope everyone stays warm and has a good day. 24 more please and thank you.

Jude, I'll check out that Blue Lights program next time I get to borrow the Brit Box Roku stick from the library. We cycle through the various streaming services that are available at the local library. Yesterday we picked up the Peacock Roku. Not very many shows I want to watch but they have some good movies available. Thanks for the mention.

Peachie, we've been enjoying the current season of All Creatures Great and Small on Masterpiece Theatre. I wonder if you watch that one. You probably are aware of its setting in Yorkshire. It's gorgeous viewing and the animals in the stories are always magnificent. One year since you lost Ben. What a sad time for you. ((Hug))

Rava, anger is a definite trigger for me. Tread carefully...

Ginger, thanks for keeping your temperature to yourself! Very thoughtful of you. It will be a full moon tomorrow. Perhaps you'll be able to enjoy it for some moments outside. I'll be looking at mine view from behind glass.

Cowboy, good plan changing your drug store so the drive is shorter. I must say, I love the mail order prescription service. It's offered by our insurance provider. Maybe you should see if yours offers the mail service. Very convenient for those drugs that you take long term like blood pressure and cholesterol.

        Hey Mul and E3!

        Not today.

Ugh, freezing rain is nasty stuff. Be watchful that it doesn't clog your gutters too. Here it's just warm and rainy, not much fun, but not much hassle either, but who am I to complain after such a long (week and a half) stretch of nice weather in the middle of the month.

Anger is a definite issue with me as well. I've found over the years I've gotten pretty good at not letting it fester, but in the moment, even miner frustrations, it can be tough to not let it boil over sometimes.

            Hi all!

Cowboy, I'd much rather deal with snow than freezing rain any day. Be careful out there; at our age we can't afford to fall!

Peachie, that's so tragic about your son Ben. Drugs and alcohol take away so many lives and it's truly heartbreaking. I hope that you can find peace soon.

Still very cold with a light snow falling. Ginger, thanks for not telling us what the temperature is in your neck of the woods. It would just depress me.

I agree that anger and resentment can definitely lead to a drink which has happened to me in the past. I ended up drinking AT the person who ticked me off. Totally insane and solves nothing.

Dill, I didn't realize that you could borrow Roku sticks from the library. What a great idea and I'm definitely going to check it out!

Waves to Rava, Mul and Al!

Talking about anger reminded me of something I read here at MWO in its heyday:

"Resentment is like swallowing poison and expecting the other person to die."

Perhaps some of you have come across that somewhere too. Anyway, it is very true for me. And I take it one step farther...I think there are times when I have manufactured anger so that I could justify needing a drink! Baffling cunning and Powerful.

I looked up the Quote origin and here's what I found:

Reply from Quote Investigator: The earliest strong match located by QI appeared in the 1980 book “The Angry Christian” by Bert Ghezzi. Emphasis added to excerpts:1
Resentment is like a poison we carry around inside us with the hope that when we get the chance we can deposit it where it will harm another who has injured us. The fact is that we carry this poison at extreme risk to ourselves.

This simile is not identical, but it shares key elements with the target saying. QI believes that this figurative framework evolved over time.

That's it from me for today! I'll be back later for a bite to eat. Hope we all have a good day, free of alcohol.

              Not today.

Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.

Those types of anniversaries are never easy Peachie, especially the first ones. Hope you spent the day having fond memories of Ben.

I've heard that quote before dill, didn't realize it's been around that long. Good to hear you're getting some relief from the cold.

I agree Jude, there's nothing good about freezing rain! Most of it melted off by mid-afternoon and it was nice enough out to do pork tenderloins on the wood pellet grill.

Waves to the rest of the gang!

Oh yummo Cowboy. Been waiting up for that. Thank you all for your kind words. When you bring your kids up from tiny babies the love is so unconditional and the memories of their little lives stay forever. The joy is huge . Every milestone, all their little idiosyncrasies are so precious. Ben loved Michael Jackson's music and used to do his moon walk up and down the house! LOL.

Anyhow have had a much brighter day today. I've been out looking at the moon again tonight. It is huge.

Anyhow I'm falling asleep again so best get to bed. It is still a really hot evening and I feel for you all with your cold weather.

                        Take care everyone.

                        Night night

                          ABC, thanks for breakfast. Delicious!

Waves to all my cafe buds. I'll take another day of freedom!

Exactly, it's like you convince yourself you're harming that person by drinking but really you're only harming yourself, just like if you swallowed the poison you meant for someone else. If you can turn the tables on the whole paradigm and see it as that person "winning" even more if you drink, that might be a better way to look at it. Or even better, try to forgive and forget and not carry the poison (ie resentment inside you) at all; easier said than done of course.

Loved the quote dill and so true! We can't change the way some people act, but we can change how we react to them.

Thanks for brekkie yesterday cowboy; I had leftovers this morning.

Peachie, glad that you are feeling better emotionally. Losing a child must be incredibly painful and this past year must have been heartbreaking for you. Hugs...
