Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Well, my doctor says that I need to wear the boot for another month, but I can take it off occasionally and walk without it. Not what I wanted to hear, but at least I can drive my car again. Yay!
It's snowing here and we are expecting 5-8 inches, but that's nothing compared to the four feet they got just north of us.
Today's plan is to sit by the woodstove and knit. No booze will cross these lips today!

Jude, it's great news that you will be able to drive and to go bootless for short periods. It's not the total freedom you hoped for, but it's definitely in the right direction! I'll be sitting by the wood stove today too.
Two nights ago when I went out to the barn to feed Pumpkin he did not act himself. He showed little interest in his food and had little energy. The next day when I went out to check on him and feed him, He did not make a sound or come out to greet me. I called and finally heard a response and found him curled up in his cat box unwilling to come out. We got him out and examined him. He was in a bad way. We called the vet and thankfully they took him as an emergency appointment. Well, it turns out that he had a blockage of the urethra which the vet said is actually fairly common in male cats. The build up of toxins in his system was severe. His potassium levels were so high he would have likely died, but the vet was able to clear the blockage and he is in the hospital for the weekend. She says we will not know until Monday the extent of the damage to his kidneys and he is still not out of the woods. The high potassium levels could also have caused heart damage. So, fingers crossed for Pumpkin. I don't like to think about what may have happened if I had been drinking.
24 more for all of us here, please and thank you.Dill

Good morning Cafe. Dill, I hope Pumpkin heals quickly with no further problems. Yikes things would have been different if you were drinking. Jude, so glad that you only have that boot for another month. Being able to take it off briefly will be great! Heading out to a yard sale early this morning looking for absolutely nothing I need. LOL. Hope everyone has a great day. Another 24 for me please.

Today is going to be a darn good day not to drink!Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.

That's not the worst news Jude58, at least you can get out and about a bit more. I'm sure if it were me, the boot would be off more than it was on in the next month lol.
Sounds like you got Pumpkin to the vet just in time dill! Hopefully any damage done isn't too severe.
I enjoy going to yard and garage sales as well Rava. Dill, I'm so sorry. I'll be sending kitty prayers for Pumpkin. 😻
Jude, glad you'll get a little boot reprieve at least and be able to drive a little. Does it hurt to walk without the boot?
Stay warm everyone! I'll take another.

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Dill, I hope that pumpkin will be ok. I know how hard it is when one of our furry friends are injured or hurt. When I worked as a vet tech we saw a lot of blocked male cats, which is caused by a build up of a certain type of crystals in the urine. Two of my cats are male and I keep my fingers crossed that neither one of them ends up with a blockage.
Cowboy, I wear the boot about 20 percent of the time, which isn't exactly what the doctor ordered, but it's not too painful to walk on if I take it easy.
I couldn't log on this morning for some reason, but I'm here now.
24 more for all of us please...

Dill, I hope that pumpkin is doing better today. Fingers crossed!
Another chilly morning here at 11? Fahrenheit, so it looks like Mr. J will be cutting more wood for the fire.
24 more please...

Today the IV fluids will be withdrawn, and the catheter will be removed. Then the blood test to see how Pumpkin's kidneys are doing. I had never heard of this blockage issue before so it came out of the blue for us. The Vet explained to us that it is unfortunately relatively common in neutered male cats. I wish I had known that because I might have acted more quickly had I known.
The cold is loosening its grip for the next few days. This will be our window of opportunity to clean the chicken coop, It's been too cold to even think about it!

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Dill, I feed Cyrus one can of wet food each day along with his dry. Years ago I was told cats with urinary crystals need more fluids. Cats aren't big water drinkers so the wet food supplies some extra hydration. They even make some specifically for urinary crystals. Kitty prayers for Pumpkin.
Busy day but it won't include AL. I'll take another!
