It’s 45 here this morning which is probably like a summer day to you guys but it’s freezing by Florida standards
We have mule and white tail deer in our area Mulburry, as well as moose and elk. Don't think I've ever seen a black tale.
Hope your knee gets better Ginger999, that sounds very unpleasant, especially for a fellow hiker.

Jude, what the heck?! You may need a nap today sometime.
Cowboy, the vet recommended the tooth be extracted as it was badly broken and the "pulp" was exposed. Apparently it can become infected. The vet said the tooth probably hurts her when pressure is applied but generally she was probably ok. She said she could make a referral to a canine dentist if I wanted to pursue a root canal and crown, but she said most people opt for abstraction bc it is one of her canines and it is not necessary for chewing. She won't miss it. Poor pup!! But she'll be ok. I like this vet. I tried a different practice today because I was becoming dissatisfied with our regular vet. I really liked this vet and the staff there and the cost seemed much more reasonable than the other practice. I looked up info about canine root canal and the article I read said typically it would cost between $1500-3000 and could actually go as high as $6000, depending. That's eye-popping! The success rate for the procedure is 69%. The extraction will cost between $250-350. I hate that she has to lose that tooth, and I wish I knew what caused the damage! It wasn't there when we took her for her annual check up in October.
Ginger, I hope your knee is settling down and you are getting around alright. I imagine it is very frustrating having all these setbacks.
Rava, 45 sounds wonderful to me. We have been at freezing or below for a week now. We might see some more moderate temps this weekend, but today will be be cold, windy and snowy. Bet you don't miss that!
Waves to you Mulburry!
24 more please and thank you.Dill

Yep Jude, you're definitely going to need a nap sometime today, 1:30 is way to early to be getting up.
That's not too bad for the tooth extraction dill, I'd probably go that route as well.
I've got a date with the snow shovel this morning but it looks like only a couple of inches so I don't mind getting out and getting some exercise since it warmed up through the night.

Good morning Cafe. Ginger, I hope that knee swelling is better today. Dill, I would definitely do extraction I would hate spending 3,000 on a dogs tooth. Heck, I hate spending that kind of money on my own teeth. Jude I was up at 1 am too but laid there until I fell back asleep. Hope those getting snow don’t get too much. Mul, 45 is so cold to me that I had my little heater plugged in while I was reading today. Cowboy, hope your shoveling is brief today! Hope everyone has a wonderful day. Mr. R and I are driving down to the Everglades today looking for some alligators! 24 more please and thank you!

Dill, critters can live happily with no teeth at all so Lily will be fine without that canine. Root canal on a dog?!That's somebody with more money than they know what to do with! Lol
Jude, that's way toooooo early to be up. I hope there's a nap in your future!
Hi,, Mul. I love that you can get out regularly for hikes!
ABC, happy shoveling! Sometimes I miss snow but that passes quickly.
Hi, Rava! Let's just enjoy our warm weather.
I'll take another day of freedom

Dill, pulling the tooth is definitely a better option, and I'm sure that Lily will do fine without it. One of my cats broke a canine tooth recently and I was given a quote of $1,100. 00. They said this includes pre anesthesia bloodwork and teeth cleaning. Yowza! At this point the tooth is not bothering her, and hopefully it never will, so far now I'm going to wait and see.
24 more please...Last edited by Jude58; December 6, 2024, 04:56 AM.

Jude, was that quote for extraction or root canal? I would take the wait and see approach too if it isn't bothering the cat. The canine Lily broke is badly broken and the pulp of the tooth is exposed which apparently can lead to infection, so we really have no choice but to do something in this case.
We are supposed to get up to freezing today. It's funny, but I know it will feel so good compared to these sub freezing temps we've been having.

Good morning Cafe. Dill, I hope you get it figured out. I would just get it pulled. Our little dog had 7 teeth pulled at one time and I found a cheap dentist that charged 700.00 for everything. This was about 10 years ago. The dog did fine and still managed to eat everything. Hope everyone has a great day. We saw 2 alligators resting on the banks yesterday. Usually we see more but with the temps in the 60s they are hiding I guess. 24 more please and thank you.

Pretty cool (no pun intended lol) that you got to see at least a couple of alligators Rava, from a distance I'm presuming haha.
It actually was quite enjoyable shoveling the little bit of snow we had and the temp got above freezing yesterday and stayed above freezing overnight. Think it might be a nice day for a drive out into the country and check on things at the farm.Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. I can't imagine seeing gators just laying around, Rava. Somehow, I think it would be pretty cool!
I've been told by vets over the years that animals are good at masking pain. They are not complainers like their human counterparts. I'm sitting hear listening to the coyotes sing. I love that so much. I also love, there's an 8ft fence around the resort. Lol
Headed toward a cooling spell. Should be in the high 60s a couple days.
Off to take hubby to his eye injection appt for his macula degeneration. The treatment seems to be helping!
I'll gladly take another day of freedom!

Rava, that's pretty cool that you are able to go alligator watching. The only ones that I ever see are on nature shows, but maybe that's not such a bad thing.
Dill, that was the estimate for just the extraction, bloodwork and a cleaning. The tooth is broken but the pulp is not exposed and it's not bothering her in the least. If it becomes a problem I will have the tooth taken out.
We've had about 10 inches of snow over the last couple of days and it has really transformed the landscape into one of beauty.

Rava, we are not considering the root canal for Lily. We made up our minds that we will have it pulled, no doubt! The cost of the extraction covers the procedure, anesthesia, bloodwork, pain meds, etc. I think it's a fair price. Apparently canines are harder to extract than the other teeth because the root is really, really long.
Glad to hear that your husband's vision is benefitting from his treatments, Ginger!
Did you take that ride out to the farm yesterday Cowboy? If so, how were things?
Waves to Jude and Mul.
24 more for all of us here, please and thank you.
