5:19am in Alberta, 24 more please, and thanks...

In the last 24 hours, these friends have joined in for 24 hours of wellness:

Today is going to be a darn good day not to drink!
Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.

Glad you got back across the border Ginger even if it meant having to stand in line for a while. I imagine they are checking documentation pretty carefully on everyone.

I've cut way back on my coffee consumption as well Mulburry, don't think I'll ever give it up completely though.

We only got about 5" of snow yesterday Rava and the temp is still right around freezing so it wasn't to bad to deal with. More snow on the way today though and now the temps start to fall.

I just read up on that airplane/helicopter collision, what a tragedy...

Weird part about coming back from Mexico? They didn't even look in our bags. Odd it took so long under those circumstances. Matters not, I won't be going back.

I'm not sure if I experience side affects or not from the antidepressants, it's been so long!

Waved to all! I'll take another day of freedom

I’m in Florida now, and it’s wonderful being in this warmer weather! Thankfully I’m here this week and not last week, and thankfully got here safely on the airplane; on the same day as the crash in DC.

Glad you eventually got back in the U.S. in this time of increased border security, Ginger.

Hmmm, I hope I’m doing the right thing in going off the anti depressant. I’m tired of being tethered to regular doctor visits for it and always having to get the prescription renewed. Just want to be free of one more substance.

Going for another 24 hours AF today!

I had my volunteering job today, so no time to post early this morning. Oh well, better late than never!

24 more for all of us here, please and thank you.

Howdy empyr3al! Thanks for stopping by the cafe, and hope that you are doing well.

Rava, have you talked to your doctor about getting off of the antidepressants? Might not be a bad idea.

I just put in my notice at work that I'm going to retire at the end of February. My boss told me that I can always go back if I wanted to, which is comforting to know.

I'm in for another 24 hours...

Great to see you, empyr3al! It's been ages. Hope all is well with you.

Jude, that's wonderful news about your decision to retire! I love being retired. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities if you feel you need a little something to do to get you out of the house.

It seems that getting off regular alcohol abuse might change brain chemistry enough that it would be worth discussion with a doc. Perhaps the need for the antidepressant is reduced when alcohol abuse is eliminated. When I was on Lexapro all those years ago I was still abusing al and I think my drinking actually increased at the time. It's no wonder I couldn't see if it was helping me or not. I certainly wasn't helping myself at the time. Ginger and Rava, it might be worth a mention to your GPs that you have stopped drinking and whether that would affect any of your other medications.

Cowboy, are you thinking about helping with the planting this spring?

                    Waves to you Mul!

24 more for all of us please and thank you.

Good morning Cafe. Thanks for the advice Dill and Jude about the Lexapro. I do not want to stop it tho. I don’t think of it as a bad thing. I take it like a vitamin and my doc renews it each year with my blood pressure medication. As they say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Thats my moto. Although I understand your thoughts of wanting to be free of the habit of an antidepressant, I think of it as a helper med and have no side effects from it. Of course it’s been so long probably over 20 years. I am watching all this awful news of the airplane crash. So very horrific. No specific plans for this day or the weekend. Just relaxing without drinking. 24 more please and thank you.

It's great to see you again Empyr, how have you been? Don't be a stranger, the Cafe doors are always open to anyone.

Enjoy the warm weather Slo and have fun with your friend.

I'm betting you're going to enjoy being retired Jude, especially the not driving in to work. Sounds like your boss is going to miss you though.

I've never been to Mexico Ginger, have never had the desire. Actually the only other country I've been to is the good old U.S. of A.

Bubba and I talked about farming not so long ago dill and I've decided that if Corey still wants me to help out I'll give it another 2 years. Thinking 70 would be a good age to completely retire lol

If the meds don't seem to be having any adverse side effects I can see why staying on them isn't a bad idea Rava, but there's also the question of if they are really required. I tend to go by Murphy's rule a lot of times myself lol.

Nothing new here, another date with the snow shovel this morning lol. Probably a few more times between today and tomorrow lol. At least I can't complain about not getting any exercise in haha.

Little sis heads home tomorrow and I miss her already! The season is on the down hill slide now.

It is warm & sunny today in Florida! Just lovely!

I agree, Rava: if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. My doctor makes me jump through more hoops though to get the AD: have to see her twice a year to discuss my depression, do blood tests; and only get renewed for 90 days of meds at a time. Plus she wouldn’t help me taper off by getting me liquid Lexapro. Sick of being controlled. So we’ll see.

Jude, do you work doing home health? Congratulations on your decision to retire! At least the door is still open if you change your mind.

                              Hello to empyr3al !

Off to Disney Springs soon. I hope my condition (the knee pain and the severe PN) will allow me to walk enough and be somewhat normal.
And -no drinking for me today!

Slo, I was a veterinary technician for over 25 years, then I worked for an ophthalmologist as an assistant. I officially retired when I was 62, but I got bored and started looking for a part time job. I began working for a company that offers in home care for people with dementia or Alzheimer's. It's a difficult job at times and I'm getting pretty burned out, hence the decision to leave. As dill mentioned, I can always do volunteer work if I get bored.

Ginger, sorry that your sister has to go home, but it sounds like you two had a great time!

I went to Mexico once several years ago and parts of it are beautiful. One day we were out driving and got lost. We ended up driving through one of the many poverty stricken villages. I don't know which was skinnier, the kids or the dogs. They lived in broken down shacks and their clothes were in tatters. It made me very grateful for everything that I have.

I'm in for another 24 hours of serenity...
