Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

Rava, the sonar repellent device sounds interesting. I think I'll google it. If they have a version that works for rabbits, I bet there's something that might discourage mice. I have tiny invaders here from time to time. It's part and parcel to living in an old farmhouse I'm afraid. But maybe I can try the sonar route next winter. They don't usually invade until the colder months. I have several live traps around the house in the winter.to catch them and get rid of them. I'm not a fan of mice.
I'll join you all in another day of freedom.Dill

Yesterday I met up with my aunt who lives here in Orlando area, and we had an exquisite lunch together, and then went to the theater together in the evening.
I wasn’t sure if taking care of dementia patients was still what you were doing in your post-retirement job, Jude. Yes, it is so draining. Now the primary caregiver that I got for my MIL during her last years with dementia, whom the family now employs for my former sister-in-law’s dementia (I’m divorced now), is planning to quit as soon as she can find another job. I don’t blame her. I basically “quit” too (by getting divorced) with frustrations over not being listened to when I would say what was going on with MIL and SIL from my view from in-the-trenches, seeing firsthand what was going on with them; and this caregiver is not being listened to and worked with either.
Mulberry, I agree that being dependent on a substance that can have such deleterious consequences if I don’t take it / lose access to it, is a big part of why I want off of it.
I had a “dry” Prosecco glass of “wine” yesterday at lunch! Maybe restaurants really are getting better at offering NA drinks.
24 more hours for me for my last day in Florida.Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Slo, I think that more restaurants are offering a decent list of mocktails and other booze free drinks. I've bought alcohol free wine in the past and it wasn't very good. Guess that I'm better off drinking water or diet coke.
I'm ready for 24 hours of peace...

I doubt I would order a non-alcoholic glass of wine even if the taste was fairly true to real wine. I never really drank wine for the taste.Like you Jude, when I am out, I usually order water with lemon or occasionally iced tea or cola. Glad you are enjoying your time in Florida, Slo.
24 more for all of us here, please and thank you.Dill

Good morning Cafe. Dill, I think the sonar thing might work for mice as well. I hate mice too but had a lot of luck with glue traps. I would put some bird seed or peanut butter on top of the glue. They work well and don’t snap on you. I remember finding a live mouse in my dishwasher once. UGH! Hope everyone has a great and sober day.

For me it's usually coffee or iced tea, but I do mix it up a bit with Coke, Pepsi, San Pel, or just plain water. There are a few mocktail bars opened up in Edmonton now, and I think quite a few of the restaurants are offering zero alcohol wines and beer.Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. I’m home now.
Such beauty, Mulberry! I miss Winter walks & hikes so much, but my now broken, malfunctioning body doesn’t allow for it anymore. Which makes it harder to get through the Winter.
I only drink caffeine in the morning, since I’m sensitive to it; so I don’t have the iced tea & soda options for later in the day. There are more mock-tails available, but I dislike such sugary drinks. Love the complex, bitter flavors of beer and wine, so I welcome those as AF options. I can’t believe how awful some AF wines are, but these two that I had on vacation were good!
In any event, it is positive that AF drinks are more widely available, and that not drinking alcohol while out is being increasingly accepted by the wider culture as an acceptable option.
I once saw a mouse in my dish drainer, on a shelf in my living room, and one in my daughter’s room in her Halloween candy bowl! I kept telling hubby at the time that we had a mouse problem, and he kept saying that that’s natural; that mice get in in the Winter. And it escalated to that. And then it escalated to mice in the walls chewing through water hoses from the sink causing flooding…now I am divorced and just choose to manage my own home! (condo)
And I choose another 24 hours of freedom from alcohol.Last edited by Slo; February 5, 2025, 06:58 AM.Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.
