We're definitely getting less daylight hours here, we have to turn the lights on in the combines around 7:30 in the evenings to see properly. And the evenings are much cooler, we had frost overnight! We finished the field we were in last night so this morning the frost shouldn't slow us down as we have to fuel everything and then move 4 miles to another field.

    Waves to all the gang!

This is when my wings start flapping to head south. I hope we aren't making a mistake selling our place down there. I guess if we get down there and we change our minds, so be it.

Waves all. Here's to homemade tomato soup. Yum!

      I'll take another!

I've made tomato sauce, but never made tomato soup from scratch. I bet it's really delicious!

Just back from volunteering and finishing up lunch. Had a nice morning.

It's too soon to speak of FROST!

24 for all of us here!

Well there's no frost here with 65 degree temps. In fact, I'm sitting on the back porch with my coffee and it's quite nice. I know that my mornings on the porch will soon end so I'm enjoying it while I still can.

Dill, you should make some tomato soup sometime as it's not that difficult to make and it's so much better than canned soup. It's yummy!

Cowboy, I didn't realize that you were harvesting so late that you had to use lights in the combines. You must be putting in some long days! Yikes!

Ginger, you will know when it's time to sell your winter home. It's a big decision but I think that you will make the right choice when and if you need to.

          Hey Rava and Mul!

          Not today...

Good morning Cafe. Cowboy, Wow still running those combines at 730 pm. What a long long day. Would you be affected if they never changed from daylight savings time? Sometimes I wish the time would never change. I was always under the assumption that the time change is for farmers? Ginger, I hope you make the right decision about selling your winter home. We still have 1 month left in the tiny home. Sept/Oct are the best months in my opinion. Low humidity and cooler temps. Hi Jude, Mul and Dill. PS I have never made homemade tomato soup either. I might have to look that up! I eat tomatoes like most would eat a peach! Love them. 24 more please and thank you!

Woke up to a foggy morning. It's beautiful! Hope it clears off before Mr. D goes for his knee appointment.

I will look up a homemade tomato soup recipe, Jude. I better do it soon before the tomatoes stop producing. But I'm not sure I'll have time today.

Rava, do you mean you eat a tomato by biting right into it? That would definitely be a messy proposition! LOL!

You must be closing in on the end of the harvest season, Cowboy. I bet you're ready.

                Hi, Ginger and Mul!

You'll know when it's the right time to sell Ginger, but I imagine the decision won't be an easy one.

Bubba used to make tomato sauce and salsa when we grew tomatoes Jude, but never homemade tomato soup. Ours always come from a can lol.

I don't think the time change affects us much Rava, but having longer daylight in the evenings would sure help. I'm not a fan of the time change either, we should pick one and stay with it.

I'm not sure if you plant many tomatoes or not dill, but it surprises me that you've never made homemade soup from them.

No frost here this morning but things are pretty wet from the rain we had last night. It rained enough for me to hear it in the camper around 2:00am this morning. Will have to wait till it gets daylight out to see just how wet it is. Maybe a day off for me, but definitely a morning off for sure. We usually have a 14 or 15 hour day, 7:30am - 10:30pm but that all depends on how the previous day was and of course the weather lol. I've tried to take videos of night combining but they never turn out very good because of the dust.

I see we cross posted again dill lol. I sometimes eat a tomato like Rava does and it's not too messy but I usually hold a paper towel under it lol. And yes, we should wrap up harvest in 3 or 4 days if this rain overnight doesn't shut us down for too long.

ABC, thank you again for all your hard work harvesting. Those are long days.

Homemade tomato soup sounds delicious! I made homemade vegetable soup yesterday. Gdaughter gave me a loaf of homemade sourdough bread and it was a perfect combo! Yummo

Jude, I'm so glad you kept Peanut and she's slowly coming around. Lucky girl!

Rava, your humidity just about killed us "desert dwellers" when we visited that area in September. I can't imagine it when it's super high. It's a rare thing around here, even after it rains.

Dill, glad you had a good volunteer day and really glad, for now, you still have your hospital.

I spent the afternoon with gdaughter making paper mache' space helmet for my ggson's birthday party. We were elbow deep in glue! Lol

Off to exercise then helping middle son with some data entry. I'll take another day!

                        Good morning cafe!

Wow cowboy, you guys sure are putting in some long days. Thanks to you and all of the farmers for putting food on our table.
Corn is one of largest crops around here and the farmers are busy harvesting it. Some of the farmers have large herds of dairy cows, (800 or more) and will need all of the corn that they can get.

Ginger, Peanut is coming around a little more each day but she still doesn't like to be touched. Slow progress, but we will get there eventually.

                        Hi dill, Rava and Mul!

24 more for all of us please...

Good morning Cafe. Dill, yes I eat tomatoes, both cherry and regular ones like an apple. I like a little salt on them as well. cowboy and I have that in common. Cowboy, I will join the others with saying thank you for harvesting those crops so we have food on our table. Ginger, I wonder once you get to your winter home if you will not sell because you will be happy for the warmer temps. There are a few hurricanes brewing so I am glad I am here but hopefully these new ones wont come too far north. Fingers crossed. Jude, glad Peanut is slowly coming around. In about a year she will be laying on your lap wanting to be cuddled. Heading 2 hours north to see a bunch of soccer games that the g sons are playing. 24 more please and thank you!

Wow, those are some big dairy operations Jude! They must do round the clock milking or have multiple milking parlors. I'm sure Peanut will soon be jumping into your lap in no time at all.

Hope all went well at Mr D's knee appointment dill.

Yummy on the homemade vegetable soup as well Ginger! All the best soups are homemade. I especially like kapusta, Bubba's homemade sauerkraut soup.

Enjoy the soccer games Rava, I'm sure your g sons love having you there cheering them on.

I did end up getting the day off yesterday so got to come back to Veg and get my laundry done and pick up a few more groceries to get me through to the end. And getting to spend the evening with Bubba is always a bonus when I'm helping out with the farming. Back out this morning to continue on to the end now.

Cowboy, I am intrigued by your mention of kapuska and had to look it up. I am even more intrigued now! I assume Bubba puts meat in it. The recipe I found called for pork ribs. What does she use? It sounds delicious! Mr. D was going for an injection, which went just fine. While he was there the PA brought up the question of whether he would like to pursue knee replacement. So, he is busy looking up options and thinking it over. If he decides to go forward with it, they'll have to do evaluation of his knee's status and also his over all state of health to see if the surgery would be prudent. I'm pretty sure he is going to go forward with it.

Ginger, the hospital administration recently came out with an announcement that they are going to keep the building and the operations therein up an running for another 5 years and then depending on local government, will decide to build a new facility or I don't know what. The local government has not been very cooperative or receptive to them so far, so we shall see. But at least we got a breather! Paper machete is such a messy project! I bet your granddaughter had a wonderful time doing it with you!

Rava, I love tomatoes, and always with salt. But I've always eaten them cut up and with a fork. I think it would be great to take a bite into one! Of course, I always pop the cherry tomatoes right in my mouth. such a treat! Tomatoes in cottage cheese is one of my very favorite lunches.

Jude, I wonder if there is any way you could get Peanut swaddled in a towel so you could get her used to your touching her. I'm sure you will work it out. Time will be the best remedy.

"I often notice I feel a bit anxious/depressed (just kind of a dark mood I guess) when it gets dark in the evening now that I quit drinking, so I really do like the longer daylight. Yes, fall is funny that way, it seems like you can go straight from summer into almost what starts to feel like winter mode within a very short timespan."

Mul, yes it is funny that way. Just last evening Mr. D looked out the window and then at the clock and said, to his chagrin, "It's dark outside and it's only 7:40!"

                                Not today.
