Happy St. Patrick's day everyone! I can remember when I used to "party hardy" on this day every year. There's a part of Syracuse called Tipperary hill and it's full of bars with Irish names. Today those bars will be packed to the gills with drunks and other wanna be Irish people. I used to think that it was a good time, but not so much now.
No bars or booze today so here's to another 24 hours of freedom.

ABC, we are keeping the place for now. Neither of us want to deal with winter quit yet. We will sell our 5th wheel back home though. No way to tow it now!I wish you could come to WA and build me a she shed in its place.
Lots of work this week. Waves to all. I'll take another one

Happy St. Paddy's Day everyone! No drinking here but we are celebrating by making the corned beef and cabbage recipe shared by Rava.
Slo, it's a wise choice to protect yourself from being with a daily drinker. Maybe if you tell your sister you wish you could live together but you can't take the risk of daily exposure she will decide to quit. We can only hope.
Cowboy, thanks for that wonderful breakfast yesterday.
Jude, I'm so happy you are having a long visit with your sis. Just wonderful! As usual, I wonder what is missed out on, not having a sister... I loved all my brothers tho.
Ginger, it will be the 26th before you know it!
24 more for all of us here, please and thank you.Last edited by dill; March 17, 2025, 09:10 AM.Dill

I bet it was a delicious meal, Dill!
This year anyways you are far away from Tipperary Hill on St. Paddy’s day, Jude. That sounds like how Chicago celebrates St. Patrick’s Day in a big way too.
I can tell that my sister’s problem is that she doesn’t want to give up what booze does for her in social situations: she just loves becoming glib, funny, giggly, convivial, and more extroverted.
But if one intends to be AF, one has to want it bad enough to be able to give that up. But she values the temporary effects of alcohol more than the benefits of sobriety, despite the many negative effects that alcohol addiction has had on her life. Well, each to their own, I guess. We all have to decide this for ourselves.
Ginger, sounds like a good plan to keep the place in Arizona but drop the fifth wheel (the little truck-lette can’t pull that!).
Waves to all, and the luck o’ the Irish!Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

The corn beef and cabbage recipe was delicious! Mr. D and I are both fans of cabbage, so it was a natural for us. We both love pork chops with apples and cabbage which is very similar. Mr. D particularly liked the sweetness of the recipe you shared. I had never made corn beef before, so it was a fun way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, for sure! Thank you, Rava.
I think my next adventure in the kitchen will be to make a pineapple upside down cake. I've never made one. Mr. D loves pineapple, so.... I'll let you know how it goes. It won't happen today tho. We are meeting his brother and wife for lunch instead. It will be a pleasant outing. SIL sent us a picture in a text of the pineapple upside down cake she mad yesterday and promised to bring us each a piece when we see them. Mr. D was so excited about getting the cake that it is what got me started on my pineapple upside down cake project. Coming soon.
Hope everyone has a wonderful 24 hours of freedom.

Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.

I'll bet you're enjoying your visit without drinking Jude, and lots more great memories still to come with the rest of your sisters!
You're right Slo, everyone has to make their own decision regarding drinking, I'm just glad we all made the right one.
Enjoy your visit today with the in-laws dill, and the upside down cake. Hopefully yours will be a success when you give it a go.
I'd love to be able to build a shed for you Ginger, but I've got a cabin to finish up this summer lol.
Have a beaut of a day everyone! I'm not looking forward to my dentist appt this morning though lol.Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...

Good morning Cafe. Dill, I am so happy you like the corned beef and cabbage. That is my favorite way to make it and we only eat it once a year. I love cabbage too and make cabbage steaks in the oven. Found that recipe on Pinterest . Hope you have a good lunch with your BIL AND SIL. Ginger your time is getting closer. The 26th is coming up. We are south until early May. Hi to all the gang. Hope everyone has a great and sober day. Off to the volunteer job this morning. 24 more please.

Cowboy, good luck with the dentist appointment today, hopefully there won't be any pain involved.
Not much happening today, just starting to pack for our road trip. Can't wait!
Slo, that's a shame about your sister not wanting to give up the booze, but I get it. In the beginning, just the thought that I could never have another drink, kept me from even attempting to quit. Hopefully your sister can find a way to ditch the booze for good.
24 more for all of us please.

Well darn, ABC! I got my hopes up
Slo, your sister sounds exactly like me. I get super anxious in large groups and the booze would turn me into a funny, social party girl. If I never went to another large group gathering, it would be fine with me. We were invite to one last night and I felt like a fish out of water. I couldn't wait to leave. First chance we got, we high tailed it out of there.
Jude, are you stopping to see things along the way? I love a good road trip that isn't a mad dash. Over the years, we've seen so many awesome things in our travels.
Rava, are you back to 100%? Dill, glad your dinner was yumyum. Hey, Mul!
I'll take another day of freedom

Well, that is the magic of alcohol! -being turned into a funny, social party person! I used to love that aspect of alcohol use the most too. Although, the magic got more inconsistent during the time of dependency.
I grew up on pineapple upside down cake! You don’t hear much about it anymore.
The neuropathy is getting me down. I am so flared after trying to consolidate too much housework & laundry into one day yesterday.
Got to spend an impromptu afternoon with grandchildren at a park! Enjoyed visiting with my daughters’ good friend, who has moved back to the area with her toddler.
How’d the dentist (oral surgeon?) visit go, Cowboy?
Waves to all, with plans for another 24 hours AF.Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Ginger, I don't think that we're going to do any sight seeing until we get to Florida, but we aren't going to rush either.
Cowboy, hope that your dental appointment went well yesterday and that you're not having too much pain. Just think how great your new choppers will look!
24 more please...

I am so envious of you and your sister traveling around like a pair of free birds! It puts a smile on my face just thinking about you.
Rava, you are a wealth of recipe knowledge! I had never heard of cabbage steaks but now I have another food adventure to look forward to. Mr. D will love it I think. We have roasted brussell sprouts and that is one of his favorites, so I suspect he'll like cabbage steak.
How did it go at the dentist, Cowboy?
Greetings Ginger and Slo.

Good morning Cafe and Cowboy thinking about you and your dental visit. Jude, safe travels and the weather is great down here. Hope you enjoy your vacation. Ginger, I hear you about the large crowds. I would rather stay home. Many people in our community think we are antisocial and maybe we are but just being around all the drinking makes me uncomfortable. Mr. R doesnt really drink so he doesnt care if we go places or not. And my tooth is not 100%. I am pretty sure I have to have it drilled again. There is a piece of jawbone that the gum is not healing over. I cancelled my appointment because my mouth is too sore for the crown placement. Plus Granddaughter is coming for a 3 day stay starting tomorrow. The pain is no where near as bad as in the beginning. So I will just grin and bear it until next week. Really enjoyed watching the astronauts arrive home safely yesterday. The dolphins swimming around the space craft made it even more special. Wishing everyone has a wonderful and sober day. 24 more please and thank you.
