Jude, I wonder if your cat puts them in the bathtub to save as a snack for later and you spoil his snack lol.

Ginger, do you think you still might take your trip next year but just Mr G and you?

Did the waves get any higher Rava, or was that the worst of it?

We're headed into a weeklong heatwave as well Mulburry, in the 90's for most of the coming week. That's a bit too hot for me but it's good harvest weather. I never thought about fruit fermenting on it's own like that, but I guess it makes some sense.

Great to see you Shades, stop in anytime!

I remember Paul Harvey and his Rest of the Story dill. I think I listened to it on the radio daily.

I got to be a camper bachelor last night lol. We put in most of a full day from 10:00 yesterday morning till 9:00 last night. Got quite a few peas taken off and should hopefully finish them up today. It will be oats next if they are ready, but Corey thinks they might need another day or two to dry down enough.

ABC, we will come back. We love this old house. It's so comfortable! I just won't let young people join us! Don't get me wrong, I love kids but not when they are allowed to destroy other people's property! I would have tanned my boy's backsides for that kind of disrespect! Love that breakfast!

      Greetings all!! I'll take another

I had know idea what Cedar Waxwings were (had to look that one up), you learn something new every day. And ya apparently it's not that uncommon in nature, I remember seeing a documentary where monkeys were intentionally eating fermented fruit and would get very intoxicated; maybe the alcoholism genes already started way way back when we were still monkeys, haha. I'd never noticed it with berries before though (usually they just get dried up and shrivelled) so it definitely caught me off guard.

Dill, I still have a mental image of a bunch of drunk cedar waxwings flying erratically around the crabapple tree. lol!

Cowboy, sounds like you're going to be very busy harvesting for awhile, but you'll be done before you know it.

We're supposed to have cooler temps this week so I'm going to enjoy it before the next round of hot, humid weather.

Ginger, sounds like some wild kids had fun while visiting you. Where were their parents during all of the shenanigans?

Today I volunteer at the shelter and hopefully I won't get scratched or bit.

Waves to slo, Rava and Mul!

Enjoy your day volunteering Jude, but try and get home without any new wounds haha.

There's no need for property damage by people of any age Ginger, and they should lose their invitation to come back.

We finished the peas early yesterday afternoon and called it a day. No combining today, going to give the oats another day or two to cure, but I'm going out to fix a light and bin sensor on one of the augers, some sort of electrical problem Corey thinks. Hopefully get it fixed this morning before the heat of the day sets in.

Waves to the rest of the gang!

Jude, your mental image is right on! You've got the picture. The other part of the equation was the noise level! Just like us humans, the birds were very loud and 'talkative'. I bet some were being belligerent while others just 'laughing'. Mul, sorry I didn't say what a Cedar Waxwing was in my post. I did think about putting it in. But since you took the time to search on it,...aren't they beautiful? I don't think this area is a normal breeding ground for them. I usually see them in groups when they are migrating. I had to look the birds up at that time too. And that was before internet searches were a big thing! I had to get out my Audobon Birds of North America book to identify them.

Ginger, was wondering if you will let the youngster's parents know the reason for the disinvite? That would be valuable to them, but perhaps not worth the tumult of family disharmony. I agree with Cowboy's comment though.

Sounds like things are going smoothly, Cowboy. You sound as if you are enjoying your part in the operation, too. Our hay is being cut and baled this week. I love watching the process.

Hi Rava! When do you present your diamond painting class?

Hope to hear from you soon, Slo.

24 more for all of us here, please and thank you.

I believe she has posted once or twice since that post, just not quite as frequently.

dill , yes they sure are! Apparently southern Canada is considered their breeding range but I can't remember having seen them. Though to be fair, I tend to pay more attention to large birds and raptors, they just fascinate me. Speaking of which, the sockey salmon spawning run has just begun (apparently it's shaping up to be a sockey a year for the ages), so there are lot's of those kinds of birds around the rivers these days: bald eagles, osprey, vultures etc.

Lavande, I worry about Slo as well, and hope that she is ok. Slo, if you're reading this please check in and let us know how you are doing.

No new wounds yesterday after working at the shelter. It is however, emotionally difficult to volunteer there. There are so many cats and not enough owners. Many of them are feral and if they're not adoptable we spay or neuter them, then release them. At least they won't be able to produce any more kittens. What we do is just a drop in the bucket, but I guess that every little bit helps.

Looks like we will be canning peaches very soon. Our tree is so loaded with fruit that some of the branches have sagged and are touching the ground. The rabbits are loving it, so we'd better get canning soon!

Good morning Cafe. I was absent yesterday due to a significant hangover. I am so upset about it. We were invited to a beach bonfire and there was plenty of wine there and it was just too easy to just give in. After 2 solid months of not drinking I acted like I never quit. It hit me hard and a hangover in my 60s is not quite like one from my 20s. I know what to do and next bonfire I will be prepared and take my own sparkling water. I would love to say I learned from this but this has happened before. I hate myself when it’s over. Today I am actually moving and going to the gym. Yesterday I was on the verge of vomiting all day long. UGH. Alcohol is poison. Thanks for listening. I feel like I am the biggest failure in this group. 24 more please.

That's so sad about the cats Jude, I wonder if finding homes for cats is harder than finding homes for dogs.

I don't think we have Cedar Waxwings up in our area either Mulburry, but I remember them from my younger days growing up in southeastern Saskatchewan.

Have a safe trip home Ginger, or maybe you're already back? Can't remember exactly which day you were traveling.

I worry about Slo as well Lavande, hopefully she'll check in soon.

I still enjoy helping with the farming dill, though I must admit that each year I'm a little bit less enthused at the start. But when we get into the swing of things I settle right in.

First things first Rava, you are not a failure! And there's not one of us any worse than the other. There is nothing easy about quitting drinking, but it eventually sticks if you keep trying.

Another hot day up here, and the same for the rest of the week. I did manage to get the auger issues figured out and repaired, so it's ready for use once we get back combining. The oats aren't ready yet, maybe tomorrow or Thursday.

Jude, I hope you can find a way to deal with the emotional aspect of your volunteer work and the fact that many of the cats are not adoptable. It is sad for those unwanted, but it would be so much worse if not for the valiant efforts of your volunteer group. I also think that the wild cats may very well have lives that they enjoy, and they do us a service by keeping the rodent population in check. Lots of animals live in the wild and they have been designed to manage it. Including cats. I have a friend that puts food out for the wild cats and I bet there are lots of people that do.

Cowboy, I wonder if it's the stand-offish tendency of cats that cause them to be harder to find homes for. They are social and loving as pets, but they definitely are not as sociable as dogs generally.

Rava, I agree whole-heartedly with Cowboy. You are not a failure. As long as you continue trying, you will succeed. You are SO much better than you used to be!

Hi Lav, nice to see you again. As Mul mentioned, Slo did post once last week. We're all hoping she starts posting more regularly.

Forgot to check-in before we set out for home yesterday. Man, it feels great to be home! Cyrus was so happy to have his domain back. It was a great trip but I told my sister's having wild and crazy kids doesn't work for me and hubby. They will need to do that without us in the future and the beach house is not open for that! ABC, the kid's moms were right there drinking and letting them run wild. When I asked my sisters if the kids acted that way at home, they said yes! Ugh

Rava, I'm so sorry. Today is a new day and like you said, you know what to do! Those social gatherings are so stinkin' hard! So much so, we are thinking of selling our place in AZ this winter. The plan would then be to rent a house for a month in AZ and stay at the beach house for a month. That would take those alcohol events out of the equation.

Jude, I tried to volunteer at our local humane society when I first retired. It destroyed me and I had to quit after 2 wks. I donate $ regularly but that's as close as I can get. Wish I had that ability but I just don't.

Hi, Lav! I'm worried about Slo too. Her talk of suicide is so scary. I hope shes ok.

Dill, I've not seen a cedar wax wing around here but I sure would love to!

Hey, Mul and anyone else stopping by!

I'll take another day of freedom
