Hmmmm....Jude giving up a stray kitten once she's looked after it for a bit...not sure I can see that picture lol

That's too bad about your son Ginger, but being such a good example of who you are now can only help. Hopefully a night in jail and his daughter will have him carry on not drinking.

Just about all wild meat is dry dill, I always use an egg and some b-b-que sauce when I mix up hamburgers or meatballs to try and make them a bit moister. Elk is probably my favorite of all the wild game there is!

We got a good start on the barley yesterday, finished one field and close to half done on the next. We should get through all the barley in a couple more days if everything goes good.

Waves to Rava and our missing gang members!

Good morning Cafe. Wow i absolutely missed checking in yesterday but thank goodness it was not because I drank! Spent the day with my daughter and then dinner at her house so we were gone all day. Luckily my daughter is not a drinker so she has water and other non alcoholic stuff. I brought my own just in case she was out of soda. Dill, I am so sorry you drank but I totally understand. Sometimes the feeling hits so hard and we just don’t care. For me it can come out of the blue and for no apparent reason I cave. You are back and so am I so thats all that matters. My husband has an occasional beer and I am actually happy that he can enjoy just one. I am not resentful in the least bit. My drinking has changed over the years from a fun buzz to blackout drinking. I am thinking it’s because my tolerance is so low now and I try to drink like I used to and it just takes me down. I have absolutely no filter that says STOP. I am too old for this shit. Anyway it’s been a week since my last mess up and I hope anytime I have another family outing, I can mange it like an adult. Jude, I bet you will keep that baby girl kitten. She will worm her way into your heart!!! Naming her will cement her fate even more. Ginger, glad you have graduated to a smaller brace. Pretty soon you will be back to your normal self. Cowboy, great video and breakfast. Thank you. Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday. 24 more please and thank you.

WE GET A NEW KITTY!? Yay Jude, post a pic if you can. Thank you for saving that precious little soul. ^-^

Dill, that sounds like a wonderful day with your granddaughter!

ABC, you are almost done for another season! Yay

Rava, what a great day spent with your daughter. I bet you were pooped last night!

        Hey Mul! Slo, check in.

Thank you all for your encouragement. Fingers crossed for young son's continued sobriety. I'll take another

Mr. J wants to name the kitten "Peaches" because she came along while we were harvesting the peaches. I don't want to name her for obvious reasons, but Mr. J has other ideas and is absolutely smitten with her. Looks as though I'm fighting a losing battle.

Cowboy, sounds like the harvest is going well, and that you are nearing the end. What will you do with your time then?

Ginger, hope that your son is finally beginning to see the light and continues on with his sober journey.

Waves to all, and please join me for another day of freedom.

Uh-oh, Jude. Looks like all the forces are marshaling against you. Looks like Peaches will be Mr. J's baby.... Have you eaten any of those fresh peaches? I just love fresh peaches. Our harvest was pretty much non-existent this year due to deer and birds, but we did manage to get a few fresh for ourselves. What a gift!

Rava, has your daughter always been a non-drinker or has she had to make the decision to leave alcohol behind? Don't you sometimes wish we had known back then what we know now, and we just never started drinking? I do.

Ginger, are you able to do any of your fine motor crafting activities since the surgery or is it too soon yet to try?

Cowboy, I'm always amazed what quick work you all do at harvest time. And from here, it seems like it goes by pretty quickly. I don't know if you see it that way though. Thank you for yesterday's hearty breakfast!

We had our Labor Day get together yesterday. A simple grill out and some fishing with the grand kids. Our son was called away at the last minute on a job so we had to soldier on without him. We had a good time though and sent home some home-made dishes for him to enjoy when he got home.

Yes, Jude, I will join you for another day of sweet freedom!

Sounds like you both had a great day with family Rava and dill. we definitely need to spend more time with our kids as we get older.

Peaches is a great name for the new kitten Jude! I got a chuckle when you said smitten by the kitten lol. I'll bet you'll be the same.

Will your son lose his driver's license as well Ginger? That will be another reminder to him of what can happen when we drink.

We are far from finished harvest lol, just finishing barley. There is still about 5500 acres to go, wheat and canola. We usually finish up around the end of September, so almost a month still to go. It looks like it's either smoky or foggy out this morning, if it's fog it'll mean a delay in getting started this morning because of damp crops.

Good morning Cafe. Cowboy 5500 acres. I cant even imagine that much property! WOW. Jude I think Peaches will be a keeper. Love the fact that hubby is smitten by her! She wormed her way into your household. Ginger, Hope things are going ok with your hand. I cancelled my cortisone shot because my hand was not hurting but now it’s starting to and I have an appt in florida in November. Hopefully i can wait…. Dill My daughter was never a drinker so I am in luck. My other daughters do drink but not excessively. Yesterday, Mr R and I were watching TV in our tiny house literally sitting right in front of our sliding glass door. We hear a loud crack. Turns out the glass on the outside pane of the door simply shattered. No rock, no bird strike, nothing. Just simply shattered. We will now have to deal with that. Luckily our contractor said he will deal with this tomorrow. I am actually glad I was right here because if I came home to this I would have thought someone shot it or tried to break in. Wow it’s always something. Well hope everyone has a good Labor Day! 24 more please and thank you.

Welcome, Peaches!! You are blessed ^_^ Congrats, Jude ;>)

ABC, you do have a way to go. Thank you! Son doesn't lose his license. Not sure the rules on that here but for now, he dodged a bullet. He has a best friend/neighbor that's been sober three years. Ryan has been a good influence through this first month. Praying it sticks!

My hand is doing great. I'm allowed to use it some but have to rest/ice as soon as it starts aching. I can go about 1/2 hour before it starts to hurt. I'm minding my orders because I need this to be successful. It takes 12 wks to be considered healed. I'm 9 wks. My knee is a different story but doc says I haven't given the PRP injection enough time. Fingers crossed on that!

Dill, what does your son do? Curious what would take him away on a Sunday?

Darn, Rava! I hope that's a quick job. Sounds spendy.

                    Hi Mul!

I sure wish Slo would check in. I'll take another day of freedom with all of you!

Wow cowboy, 5500 acres to go? That's a lot of territory to cover. How many acres have you already done?

Rava, that's crazy how the glass door just shattered for no apparent reason. It would have scared the crap out of me!

"Peaches is doing well, but definitely still scared. I'm pretty sure that she was feral and it will take some time for her to adjust. Mr. J is going to call the vet's today to get her in for vaccines and a checkup. Other than being extremely thin, Peaches seems to be healthy.

Ginger, glad that your hand is doing well, but as you know, anything orthopedic can take a long time to heal.

Dill, yes we have eaten the peaches and they are so sweet, juicy and delicious. Yesterday we canned about 40 jars of peach jam. It's a lot of work but the end result is so worth it.

Slo, check in when you can just to let us know how you are doing.

                      Hey Mul!

24 more for all of us please...

Good morning Cafe. Ginger, I am glad your son still has his license and hope he stays sober. Also glad your hand is healing but sorry it’s not immediate. We all want it fixed right away. Jude lots of peaches canned and now Peaches gets her first vet check up and shots. You are busy! I hope to find out what happens next with our sliding glass door today since yesterday was a holiday. It should be under warranty since it’s been less than a year that it was installed. Hi to Cowboy, Dill and Mul. Slo, please check in if you are reading this posts. Hope everyone has a great day. 24 more please and thank you.

Ginger, I'm so glad to hear your hand is coming along and that you are being super careful with it throughout the healing process. My son was in the property management field until just recently when the company he was contracting with was bought out and came under new management and he lost a lot of his regular jobs to the new crew. Recently he has been working for a livery service. He transports bodies of recently deceased to the funeral homes. He hasn't been doing it for very long but so far he's satisfied with the job. It's good because there's a certain amount of flexibility and he can set aside time as needed for parental duties. He's a single dad, so for a few more years he will need that flexibility. He was uncomfortable telling us about this new job. I guess he though we would think it weird or something. But we responded that it is very important work and we are appreciative of people who are willing to provide the service.

Rava, that must've been an extremely unsettling experience! The irony is the event that unsettled you was likely cause by settling putting the glass under stress. Good you were home when it happened, and you can get on the repair right away. Interesting that your daughters do not have issues with al. I'm glad for them.

Peaches is the perfect name for the kitty. I think she is so young you should be able to domesticate her and she is one lucky kitty! Now, pass me some peach jam and I'll make some fresh bread for everyone!

Cowboy, that's a lot of ground to cover!

Slo, thinking of you. Mul, how's it going?

24 more for all of us here, please and thank you.

That's good news about your hand Ginger, let's hope that your leg will get better as well. Your son will be lucky if he doesn't lose his license, they are pretty tough on impaired drivers in Alberta, a minimum of 3 month suspension and normally an automatic 6 months. Then your vehicle insurance increases dramatically as well. I was just lucky that I never got caught.

That sounds like a scary situation Rava, to have it shatter right when you were sitting beside it. Good thing the contractor will get it replaced that quickly.

Wow, that's a lot of peach jam Jude, but will be enjoyable as you get to eat it especially through the winter.

I think you son has a pretty cool job dill, I actually thought about doing the same thing for a semi-retirement job. But the sudden call-outs kinda made me think twice about it.

We've done around 2000 acres so far, I seeded 7500 acres in the spring so that leaves us with 5500 or so to go. Will be glad to get the barley done then one more field of oats, then on to wheat.

Waves to Mulburry and Sol, check in when you can please...

Dill, I'm with ABC, I think it's a much needed job your son is doing! Kudos to him for prioritizing a flexible schedule for his kids.

Jude, now that's a batch of jam! Can't wait to slather some on Dill's fresh bread!

Rava, Dill's comment about settling reminded me, we had that happen to one of our windows right after it was installed. It was from settling. Let us know how it goes!
