Dill, the story behind "Not today" came after my mother's funeral. Several people came to my Dad's house afterward for some food and drink. One of them was a nun from the church where my parents attended mass. Everyone was drinking including me. When I offered her a glass of wine, she replied "Not today", then she repeated those words in a pensive voice. Just the way she said it made me realize that she was one of us. Even though my Mom has been gone for many years, that memory is very clear in my head.

Ginger, sorry about the knee acting up. Have you been overdoing things? Hopefully, it's only a temporary thing, but maybe you should see your doctor if it doesn't get better.

Waves to cowboy, Rava and Mul!

    Not today!

Good morning Cafe. Ginger, so sorry about your knee. I spent the day with my neighbor who had knee surgery in November and he describes it as a dull toothache kind of pain. He said that his doctor assures him that it will subside in time. I am hoping yours will also go away in time. I know how much you like to hike and stay active…. Fingers crossed!! Jude, I like the term “not today” and will remember to use it more often. Our community is having a breakfast this morning so thats where I am headed. I also want to go to our local tackle shop for some bait and go fishing later. Mr. R doesnt not like to fish but he will come with me. Hope everyone has a good Saturday. 24 more please and thank you! NOT TODAY!!!

Hopefully your knee continues to improve Ginger and the pain starts to go away soon. It's only been about a month or so right? That's not a whole lot of recovery time after a major surgery like that.

Thanks for the reminder about "not today" Jude, I knew it had something to do with a nun, I just couldn't remember the details.

I think you did an excellent job of explaining why we all come to check in here daily dill, it's the fellowship and support we offer to each other.

I went to AA for a while when I was first attempting to quit Mulburry, but I didn't seem to get much out of it. But id something ever happened where I couldn't use the internet for support, I'd probably start attending AA again, not because of the AA program, but for the fellowship and support. I'm not anticipating needing to look for an AA meeting though lol.

We'll probably cross post again today Rava, we seem to do that on a lot of days haha.

Bubba and I are headed to Vermilion this morning to have lunch with Amanda. We didn't get a chance to see her over the Christmas season so it'll be nice to spend some time with her today. Since we'll be meeting her at a restaurant we won't get a chance to see Bruce this time around.

Yep, I was right about cross posting Rava haha. Enjoy the breakfast and good luck with the fishing later.

Jude, thanks for sharing that story again.

ABC, enjoy you visit with Amanda. Bummer you won't get to see Bruce though. Safe travels!

Rava, I love that you love to fish! Good luck today. Maybe fish for dinner?

Dill, very well said. You really captured our group perfectly. Good luck with your decision about your volunteer job.

Mul, are you still up at your Mom's place?

PT was much better yesterday with the young man. We talked and he said he just wants to make sure I'm 100% when I leave PT. I have 4 more visits and I'm done. I reminded him this is a marathon for most of us, not a sprint. We are not athletes, we are elderly people. I think we both learned a few things from our talk.

I am thankful for all of you! Not today!

Jude, thanks for replying to me about the "Not today" phrase. I had the vague recollection that it came from a nun, but I had forgotten the rest of the details. I loved the story when you first shared it, and I love it still.

Mul, Cowboy, I would like to have joined AA at one point but I had a real hard time with the fact that just going there meant a loss of anonymity. I was not even comfortable with letting my family know that I had a problem with alcohol so I would have had to make up a story about where I was going weekly. I was only comfortable coming here because I could do it without explaining it to anybody. I am your basic introvert. I don't have a problem with folks needing a spiritual/religious component for their recovery as I have relied on that personally. Still, there are lots of different AA groups and they vary on what they focus on, so there is probably something for everyone in AA.

Empyr3al, I like the rational recovery model too. I read a lot about it years ago. Never joined a group for the reasons mentioned in the previous paragraph.

Rava, hope you have a great time fishing! Mr. D loves to fish, but I just like to go along and bring a book to occupy my mind, or to just sit and enjoy the quiet. Being near water is very calming.

Ginger, that sounds like a good learning experience for the young PT and maybe even for you, too. We are never too old to learn something new.

                  Not today.

Ginger, your friend took an amazing photo and it really shows the beauty of where you live. Awesome! So glad that you had a talk with the overly ambitious therapist. Sometimes all that it takes is a little communication.

Rava, if you lived closer, I would love to go fishing with you!

Cowboy, I go to AA meetings for the fellowship and support, plus I have made several friends there. I've tried online meetings but they just don't have the same impact as the in person ones.

Dill, I agree with you that being around water is very peaceful. I miss sitting on the back porch listening to the creek down below. Looks as though I'll have to wait for warmer weather before I sit on the porch again!

                      Hey Mul!

24 more for all of us please...

We had a couple of unseasonably warm days here. It felt great! But we're heading back into the wintry weather this week. Ah, well, this too shall pass.

24 more for all of us here, please and thank you.

Good Sunday morning Cafe friends. Ginger, your picture was stunning! Such a beautiful view! Well I didnt go fishing yesterday and ended up floating around the pool with a lot of neighbors. No drinking for me. I have decided in the new year that part of my goal is to try to be more social and stop avoiding everything because there might be drinking involved. The truth is drinking is almost always involved and I have to deal with it. Dill i could really relate to your being an introvert. My family knows I dont drink but don’t really know the extent of my issues. One time this summer when I was drinking my niece reported to my daughter that “your mom was drinking tonight”. Like it was so unusual. That was a night that I got plastered back in the summer. So my kids don’t really think I drink. They have no clue that over time my casual drinking went from “a few” to “a few too many”. Alcohol has been a huge part of my life since my teens and now as a senior citizen it still plays a huge part as I struggle to stay away from it. Wish I knew then what I know now. (I think thats a song LOL). OK wishing everyone a safe and sober day. Maybe i will catch a fish today ! Cowboy I am sure you are posting breakfast. So thanks in advance!!!

That's a beautiful pic Ginger, no matter who took it. Glad you got things straightened out with the new therapist.

Good luck with fishing today Rava, it sounds like you had an enjoyable day yesterday even if you didn't get out fishing.

I find sitting around a lake or stream quite relaxing as well dill and Jude, the same as sitting around a campfire in the evening.

We had a great lunch and visit with Amanda yesterday and even stopped by one of our old neighbors and had a visit and coffee with them. It was an enjoyable day all around.
