Re: New Year New Start Army January 2021

Morning all. I acheived 5.30am this morning in the early riser goals. I thought that might do, but in fact you do miss the sunrise at 5.00am, which is half the point of waking early. So tomorrow I will plug on to 5am.
The fatigue is starting to lift one week into holidays and many sneaky snoozes on the lounge. I would love not to feel tired for a change.

Only a few days to go JC. My Dad had that op done some years ago and it was life changing for him.

Satz, I'm going to do my own research on the vaccine. We will be vaccinating later than a lot of other countries, so more data will be available by the time I line up myself. I will certainly post any information that I see as long as it is from a reliable source.

Stirly, I keep coming back to the old AA adage 'anything that you put ahead of your sobriety, you will lose' - or something like that. It took me so long to understand that. But now I really do. It has to be priority number one, ticking along in the background like anti-virus software, but still requiring regular updates.
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

      Hola army. Happy new year.

Cool Jonesy. (up at 5 today myself) The reason i'm attracted to gittin up before the sun is the quiet reflection time before the masses and associated noise awake. For me, we can customise our morning routines, though the 5 a.m. club protocol is close to what i do anyway only earlier start. Suits me as it happens.

Re improving the mind, what do i know?! However my reading is primarily about what i need at the moment. i.e. Investing in property to make a buck. and mindset. With mindset, i'm careful what i think. I'm becoming more aware of energy transmission. What am i receiving and putting out there into the world. What are my thoughts and actions attracting to me, doing to me? Law of attraction stuff, along with gittin offay with some basic universal laws so i'm maximising my effectiveness as a human. Visualisation. Am i blocking my progress with where my focus goes unbeknownst to moi? Plenty of info around via various messengers, some kosher others high on sugar. Dr. Bruce Lipton has some interesting info on thoughts, feelings, cells, biology connection. Worth a look if u haven't heard of him. He's on You tube. Mel Robbins has some basic common sense git it done templates and idea's too. Have been taking care of me ok so far, just checking if there's anything i've missed or should be incorporating. Have a beaut weekend mi amiga. x

        Happy new year all :heartbeat:

Yes, Im a goldfish too Starts, always in awe of Stirly's posts.

Enjoy the peace Molly. I did hear the general area around here is rampant now, although I still dont know anyone, but looks like that will change. Keeping my kids away from others is a nightmare and of course ''everyone else is out''.. the older ones were showing me pictures of people they knew out last night on sessions.. just madness. I suspect schools will not be back this month.

But to nicer things, roll on Jan 4th and JC's 2021 vision, a great start to the new year!

What time do you all go to bed at, in order to get up at 5am?
My lot are at the wrong age to even try getting to bed early, if I went first, middle would still be up at 5am when I woke up.

The area was doing badly up to 14th Dec... we weren't up there with the Nordies or Donegal - but it wasn't great - but the latest figures I saw - up to 29th Dec. we are really doing very well -- maybe there's more recent figures again - but best not upsetting yourself looking at it.. it's the whole electoral area anyway - the town itself isn't bad at the moment.. or at the last moment I read!!! oh it's so exhausting.

I get you with the kids - we were literally a 24/7 house for some years - Joey converted the garage into a red light district (well not literally -- but they did have a red light:welldone - so every 'homeless' teenager was coming up to party every night until we put a stop to it... wouldn't be happening now!

Like Australia Bridge -- Ireland is such a small wee unimportant country on the edge of the world that we will also be probably quite late getting the vaccine ( I didn't mean that Australia is a small wee unimportant country - just that we'll be late getting it as well)-- the really urgent folks like nursing homes and staff will get them imminently - but it'll be quite a while I reckon before they get to us - so it'll be good to see if there's any reasons to avoid it!!! providing it's only minor short term side effects I'll be in tho!

Fair dues to the going through every one who posts Stirl - I remember the Steppers used to post like that - but tbh I couldn't remember everything or everybody-- I just post what comes into my head or struck me as a good point or an important point.. so I'll stick with me - but yeah - it's thoughtful.

Starty is probably 3 hours into her 94 hour walk by now and I'm just about managing a cup of tea after feeding the mutt ---- Joe had a setback last night but he seems way better this morning - was googling the symptoms of Covid at midnight -- Christ I'm so sick of all this..... give us back our lives SOMEBODY -- PLEASE!!!!

              Morning campers.
Is Joe ok Molls. Take his temp is the best way. If it's 38 or over he's fighting something. Some infection.

'Member I told yiz before that I have a Garda friend who calls in every weekend to see his Mam ?
Yesterday I asked where the feck are the 350,000 vaccines he told me he escorted to Citywest.

He said they are the Oxford vaccines awaiting sign-off.
Keeping it from the public is the only way to ensure adherence to the restrictions.

He also said St Patrick's Day is cancelled. They've been stood down - told to take holidays if they want.
He said pubs won't open again until 22nd March.

So the fecking eejits over Christmas have done this - by 'socialising' too much - the country is rampant. :cuss:

Re: New Year New Start Army January 2021

                Good morning everyone.

“What time do you all go to bed at, in order to get up at 5am?
My lot are at the wrong age to even try getting to bed early, if I went first, middle would still be up at 5am when I woke up.”

I go to bed early, am very much a morning person but find it hard staying awake late. I have one of those too Mary and she has not grown out of it. The night before she travels is a nightmare, she’s wandering around at all hours.

I’m exactly like you Molly, either can’t remember or one thing in particular hits me. Would love to be more like Stirly. Glad Joe is feeling better today. It is such a worry but I love your idea of the bubble. I still have one living at home. Romance off so God knows when she will move.

Figured it would go on until March Satz. Every time we get a bit of freedom they go mad. At this stage they can stop blaming the government and take some personal responsibility. They are drawing this out for all of us. Going to keep on walking, do some more crochet, read and try to keep myself sane. Oh and most importantly not drink.

                  Morning Rustytop.
Sure isn't that what this is all about. Rather than just 'like' everything - best to comment on what really hit home.
We've been here so long the same stuff can regurgitate and what's new to others - some would have heard before.
                  And that's ok !

                      Morning all!

Yes Molls, been on a tramp round the countryside already

I go to bed early but read or watch something until around 10ish and am up at 5 usually. It suits me. Rich is more of an evening person and likes to sleep later.

Re the vaccine, I am so unsure of it and I am afraid I have no trust in the media reporting either. They knew about this new strain of covid that is supposedly rampant and going to kill us all in September yet they only publicised it wildly in December. I kinda feel it is to frighten us into having the vax. Prior to this there was a number of reports of anti vax marches and protests. I dunno, my faith in a lot of this stuff is gone. Bridge, you say you are going to review trusted sources. I would really like to hear about what you find and also how do you know if a source is trustworthy?

Anyhoo enough of that shite. Sorry Joe had a setback and hope he is more himself today.

I am making myself a todo list as over the last 2 weeks being off, my timekeeping and timewasting skills have gone awry somewhat :haha:

Re: New Year New Start Army January 2021

d'ya know Starty -- you are a lot younger than me - and if I was say 10 years younger - I would have mixed feelings about the vaccine too -- it is AWFUL fast -- BUT -- I am 64 - Joe is 68 going on 69 - and there's a very strong possibility that if we got it - we could die -- it's as stark as that... and last night - he looked quite ill tbh - I was strongly considering ringing out of hours doctor - but he's also been on a cocktail of drugs which I was weaning him off yesterday and I feel it may have been withdrawals... and he seems bright and grand this morning -- but when I saw him like that - I KNOW we have to take our chances on the vaccine - well certainly him anyway - and if he does - I will --

anyway -- that's me -- done and dusted with my opinions ;-) feeling peckish now for the first time in best part of two weeks so gonna get some tea and toast before Max wakes up -- jesus my life revolves around a poxy dog!!!

Poor Joe. If it was WDs he will feel HORRENDOUS and I sympathise. I totally agree that everyone needs to make their own decision. For example my outlaws who are both 84 ish have had it and I think its right that they have done. And yes, there is a reality that it can be fatal. I am 57 so yes I am younger but a lifelong asthmatic so I guess in the vulnerable group. I will gather whatever info is available and see what happens when the time comes.

Enjoy your food. I am about to go and clip Casey as my life revolves around the doggers too :haha:

Afternoon all, having a lazy day, was out earlier but I am just feeling the cold and can’t raise myself to go and tackle the few chores I should get done. But as DW says no harm in my recharging my batteries, back to work on Monday. TBH I can’t wait till I am in a position to retire although I estimate at least another two years are on the cards. Still retirement before 60 is the dream.

Hi Stirly, I too echo the other posters sentiments, I am in awe of the effort you always make to reach out to every single one of us, thank you, you should be proud.

Regarding your comment above, I am pleased with myself, hopefully I don’t come across as smug. It’s not always easy but at fear of tempting fate, I have come to realise that for me my mindset is key to this. Heading toward 90 days soon but tbh it could be 9 or 900 I don’t see it as clicking off days, sobriety feels just as it should be for me, this is my life now. I would like to think that in the years of my struggles I have learned a few things and along with my meditation, yoga, exercise etc, all things that proved so helpful for me previously, I have read and watched a lot more online this quit, particularly on our mindset and how we view alcohol consciously and in our sub conscious. William Porter in particular strikes a real note with me and it is working, I have no desire to drink poison, I don’t feel I am denying myself something, on the contrary, I am giving myself a great gift.
For instance just yesterday I was looking at a old photo and in the background there is a pub I used to frequent when I was over visiting my brother and his friends, a thought came into my head that I wouldn’t ever experience the fun I had there, all the ‘good times’. However when I stopped and thought about this, I took the rose tinted specs off and got real, it wasn’t always good times, tbh a lot of the time I didn’t remember how I got home, what I had said or done. The experience of DW driving me home was horrible for her, I know. In actual fact next time if we find ourselves there it will be better, I will enjoy the conversation and the company and before the al takes effect on the company I will take my leave and drive myself home. Strange how we tend to remember things not exactly how they were, especially when drunk. And I suspect as time goes by we may think to ourselves, was I that bad? Maybe one drink wouldn’t hurt, what crazy thoughts, but they are just that thoughts, learned pathways in our heads from years of drinking as a default setting for when we are sad, happy, annoyed, insert whatever but pouring a sedative down our throats to numb reality is still a baffling thing to do when we see it from a sober viewpoint. It is strange imo how AL is the only drug that people openly push on you and one has to almost apologise for refusing. Looking at younger people I do believe in years to come a lot less people will drink alcohol and it will start to be viewed as cigarette smoking is now. It would certainly make quitting easier and save a lot of pain for a lot of people.
Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

I have a history of asthma too. Thankfully mine is not exercise induced. Good news is researchers have found that asthmatic folks fair far better than others in terms of COVID severity. They weren’t sure why but the latest consensus is those whom take inhaled corticosteroids have a level of protection that others do not. I do take both albuterol and also asthmanex. Regardless, I will take the vaccine when available.

That's good to know techie. Mine is not exercise induced either thankfully. I take an inhaled steroid, montelukast and salbutamol.
