Absolutely loving my slow cooker Rusters..I've a big lump of belly pork in it for today ..I'll roast the skin in a mad hot oven for 20 mins at the end...hungry already!
Will deffo do a stew next week tho...my all time favourite!
Have to sew up an aran jumper I've knitted...my most unfavourable job...my mum always sewed up everything I knitted ...achully wudda been mums birthday today..she'd have been 96....janey mac!!

Some great advice there Tabs. My instinct would be go for it but Molly has made a very interesting point too.

Very mild again this morning. Took the dogs down to the river and I nearly had to take my jacket off.

Making a stew in the slow cooker so better get it on.

Good morning ladies, happy sober Sunday morning. Although I may have a wait for the sunrise this morning, awake very early. So what’s on my mind is that I am considering quitting my job and going part time, a sort of early semi retirement if you will, even though I have not yet hit 60. I have been offered a job just down the road from me and it is quite tempting as I feel it would offer a better work life balance all be it with less money but we don’t have a very extravagant life style and could just about get by even without this wage. I would appreciate any thoughts/advice thanks.

1# my instinct is to say 'go for it'...less commute...okay..less money..but you say you can get by...certainly if not drinking I'm guessing you spend far less..and to learn to live on less pre-retirement is a great run up to the big one. We did that when Joe sold the business and it made the ultimate pension squeeze virtually painless.

On the other hand...in treatment we were told not to make ANY major changes in (minimum) the first 2 years of sobriety. I'm guessing you are in or around that length of time..but just to make sure you are solid in your quit...in your own head...true genuine head...I was always solid until I wasn't.. so just to be wary...more free time...less responsibility...potential for not being happy in a part-time capacity..yada yada yada....just to be careful
I'm deffo not trying to put a damper on it...just be careful in relatively early days of sobriety!!

Excellent advice Benji, thank you, gut says yes go for it. So more information, I loosely enquired about a fairly basic position that became available because of its location and it sounds an interesting company. However this new potential employer believes that particular role would bore me, and he is probably right, so has created a brand new position better served to my experience and skills and he is happy to accommodate me part time understanding that when I clock out for the day I am gone. While this company do not operate it is not exactly in my field there are many transferable skills but I am asking myself do I want to come in and run operations even on a part time basis. I suppose the worse that can happen is I accept and 3 months down the line I look for something much simpler elsewhere if it’s not working out. There is obviously an element of the unknown being approached with some trepidation despite my no longer being in phase 1 as you put it, but that is only to be expected.

There you are Tabbs you've seen the perceived downside and come up with a solution. Go for it !! :horse:

Tabbs. my gut instinct and I suspect also yours is to 'go for it'. It's your time to sit back and enjoy what you've achieved.

I always think there are 3 stages to our working / life pattern. It can hit us at any age. It's like we instinctively know it's time to move on.

1 = the 'hell for leather' early days ........ to earn as much as we can to pay a mortgage, buy what we need and put up with a shiity work/life balance 'cos we're young.
2 = 'the coasting'........ doing a good job still but not getting the same satisfaction from it - wondering what's it all for.
4 = the 'i'm pissed off with this lark'. I don't need the hassle of commuting to work every day, I want to do the garden, not have to answer to anyone, I can survive without the bigger salary. I want to still work but on my own terms.

My DD is 41 and at stage 1 - and needs to stay there another short while.
Her husband is a bit older & was at stage 2.5 - when she was offered the job in Germany and he was offered a decent redundancy package from his employer. He is like a pig in poo and going to get a lully job in a bookshop or museum or something.

You Mr Tabbs ..... what stage are you at ?

So follow your 'gut' ( it's the second brain they say )
What is the worst thing that can happen ? it a good indication you will take the right road.

perhaps they could will be the oldest couple in England to divorce. I know I'm making light of it but tbh we're beside ourselves with worry.

What part has you worried most Jacks ? Perhaps it's time to consider 24/7 care ? Live-in or residential.
They really are too old now to look after themselves. It's no wonder she's beginning to hate him - we'd all be the same in an adult nappy situation :egad:

Howdy all..just back from a mega ramble...out and about at the lake and woods for about 4 hours...dog just loved it..he's snoring as we speak!
Omg the poor old pair..they seem to have gone downhill very quickly. They really do need some live in help or something now? sort of think the SIL should be sainted wanting to take that on!

Very true Tabs, it is the gift that keeps giving. I too was awake early and out walking at 8 am. Checked on the ponies and home to cooked breakfast. Beats a hungover Saturday morning any day.

I can see now why SIL wants the in-laws to move in JC. Growing old sucks. Hope they sort something out for them. Glad the cold has improved.

Think I’ll have a lazy Saturday reading. Very mild so don’t think I’ll light a fire just yet.

The stinker of a cold is abating.

Mr. JC has just had to rush up to the in-laws to meet his sister and district nurse as they can't get pa-in-law back up the stairs to bed. He's lost the ability to go to the toilet when needed so he's in grown up nappies.
MIL is beginning to loathe him. As they're both well into their late 90s (married nigh on 70 years) perhaps they could will be the oldest couple in England to divorce. I know I'm making light of it but tbh we're beside ourselves with worry.

I've just had a light bulb moment they could bring one of their single beds downstairs and put it in their spare lounge.
